Current Talk '03 II / Re:Thoughts on a new DS and the '91 series
« on: December 02, 2003, 03:24:53 AM »
I really can't comment on the '91 series, since I didn't see it when it was on and I've never had the heart to shell out money for the tapes (they're on video, aren't they?), especially after hearing mostly negative things about it. Maybe if I run into them in a video rental place or something I might check them out.

However, as far as a new series in general, I'm not sure if I'm in the minority here or not, but I always just cringe everytime I hear about the possibility. It just seems to me that while the original series was hokey in a good way, a new series would be hokey in a horrifyingly bad way. Maybe it's because I just really love the kitsch factor of the original show, with the sketchy plots and touch and go acting that seemed come along with the soap opera format. A clean, slick, prime time sort of production of the show really doesn't appeal to me at all. I guess it could work as geared to a new audience who is unfamiliar with series, but I don't think I could go for it as a viewer of the original show.  Any thoughts?

1.) Overall, I think Vickie was especially spunky in the early episodes when she first arrives at Collinwood. She has to deal with David's insanity, Liz's evasiveness, Roger's accusations of snooping and spying, and through it all she has a myriad of great foundling home stories to relate to everyone with a problem.

2.)Not sure what the writers could have done with the Vickie character in general, most likely what they went on to do with Maggie. I'm with whoever said though that it would have been nice to see Maggie stay as she was in the beginning. I never could buy the whole Maggie the governess thing...

3.) Frank or Burke I guess...

4.) Liz and Hanscombe the butler (which would explain the resemblance to Betty his sister or daughter or whoever)

5.) I don't think it would have made much difference in the long run. It would have been interesting to see Moltke in some different roles...I think a parallel time Vickie would have been great as an abrasive, sarcastic, drinking buddy of Roger sort of character.

Current Talk '03 II / Re:Daphne Harridge: The Lady in Red!

I got a kick out of the mention that they were using Vicki's old clothes for Daphne too. I was totally waiting for the kids to come bursting into the room holding a pile of those wretched sleeveless bag dresses that seem to make up Ms. Winters' whole wardrobe in the early color episodes. One of my favorite Vicki wardrobe moments has to be when she is brooding over whether she should sport her baby blue sleeveless bag dress or her pink speckled bag dress for her date with Burke - what a trying decision. I believe she had to consult Dr. Hoffman, being of course the Dark Shadows high priestess of fashion.
