Right from the Site:
Coming to old friend Maxine for support, Shannon fends off both the wanton Charlotte and her ferociously overprotective guardian (Oscar nominee Grayson Hall, in full repressed-lesbian mode) while striking up a touching friendship with artist Hannah Jelkes (Deborah Kerr), whose virtue runs in direct opposition to Charlotte's carnality.

Thanks for the info about the site Steve, and J99!  :)  Poor Judith just needed a hug and someone to confide in. :-*  I always feel for the underdogs...  ;)

you're right about julia's cloths.although everyone makes fun of "the green suit" her cloths do look expensive and chic.i love that she still wore gloves in the late 1960's, a time when the "hippie look" was tossing such ladylike conventions out.and with her short hairdo julia looked "smart".

LOL...Well, Julia is one of the grandest ladies on that show.  :)  Overall, I agree, I like Julia's style...although there were moments when I think some of her outfits coulda been a little more flattering (including that robe (sorry)) ;) But I'm sure a few people out there could explain it a bit better than I.  ;)  :-*

Well, I tried to give my Julia doll some nice threads (in reference to the following pic - chuckle). I love arts and crafts... :D

she told me that at fests lara parker claims to have no recollection of the character cassandra.i found that to be very odd. ???

I've heard her say that too, mscbryk, and it was SO disappointing!  Could you imagine forgetting that you wore a black wig through the summer months?  And to me, Cassandra is Angelique at her cruelest, which would seem to make her even more unforgettable.

That's amazing...I've never heard that before. How could one forget something like that?!  :-    ???

i must appologize for this maudlin post.i worked myself into a champagne-induced state of sentimentality.i hope i didn't "bring down" the mood on d.s.'s b-day. ::)

It didn't bother me, mscbryk...heck, I get sentimental ALL the time.  LOL  The most important thing is that you celebrated the day with a DS kinda flair.  ;)

P.S.  When I was researching a project in high school, I stumbled across a reference to a Sandor Petofi, whom IIRC, was also an artist.  1897 had just begun airing, and I thought it was a funny coincidence.

Wow...that is a cool coincidence indeed, ProfStokes. This was an artist, you say? Heck, I gotta look that up... :D

Nelson Collins -- interesting about "The Mummy."  I tend to look for more "literary" sources, no doubt overlooking some more popular (and less highbrow) ones.   :D

Yeah...the Mummy draws some interesting parallels too.

Funny you should mention "Spellbound".  That movie haunted me and intrigued me for years, as I had seen only the first half of it while in high school, and never knew the explanation for Gregory Peck's strange fears or the Dali-dream sequence until someone told me about it years later.  Then it was years later before I actually saw the ending -- I waited in vain for years and years for it to be shown on TV, then finally bought it on VHS a few years ago.  Recently watched it again, three times in obsession (oops -- I mean "succession").  I still love it, but the characters are really cardboard cutouts and don't impress much with repeated viewings beyond the "this is what the explanation" gimmick.  "Vertigo" I think has more depth in characterization and holds up better.  Not sure if either one is really a direct influence on DS, but there are some interesting parallels at least.

Oh, I agree with you there Vlad.  :) Both are good, but Vertigo has more of a lasting appeal I suppose. I was just listing a few movies that when I'd watch them I'd think...'ahhh that reminds me of DS in an odd way.'  LOL
I know others have mentioned a few films that actually did influence DS---great examples everyone. The Manchurian Candidate is another fav of mine...weird I didn't think of that. I also remember reading how that inspired that subplot in 1897. Fascinating.  ;)

I bought a snazzy Orbach's suit, a diamond-accented medical bag and a new journal to write down all my thoughts...both naughty and nice.  ;)  Sipping a cup of apricot-brandy laced tea, I watched a few DS eps, hoping to inspire me to pick up my pen and write again...  :-

I LOVE the montage, MB .   :-*   Although, it's too bad the only pic of Julia is when she's dealing with Barn. and Miss Boobie...I mean Roxanne (Barn, what are ya thinking?? Sigh).  Sorry--I should add a few sedatives to my list too...  LOL.   :o ;) ;D

Thanks MB, Midnite and Dom...this is a great place to be.   :-*

p.s. MB--I love that Avatar too...spooky. LOL   :D

Hey new cousins...we've discussed movie correlations & DS before...can you name a few more movies TCM could've run that correspond to DS?

As long as you don't list the cross-plot to DS, I don't think it's 'spoilage'.

Have fun and WELCOME :-*

Thanks Patti (hugs from W. PA)  :-*

Hmmmmm....aside from what's been already mentioned (great examples all), a few more I can think of (or at least ones that I've seen recently - LOL) include Hitchcock's "Spellbound" (with Ingrid Bergman playing the "woman" psychiatrist ;)), "Vertigo" (great cinematography; the storyline parallels the Barnabas-Josette obsession in many ways)...and speaking of portraits, there's "The Portrait of Jennie"  :D

Whew...that's a relief!   I'm serious, it is... thanks MB.  :)

You children should be ashamed. . .or rather congratulated for inferring that Julia did more with Chris than just medicate him

Who me?  LOL
Hi R...I mean...Julia99... ;)  I swear, when you read that first sentence and look at your avatar, I feel as if Grayson's chastising the lot of us. LOL  Perfect picture.  :D

And speaking of the robe that buttons to the bottom of Julia's chinny chin chin. . . well that's another topic for another time.

Well, I'd certainly like to get into that topic another time too...chuckle.

ps. glad to see another Julia nut on this board too.

Thanks J99  :-*

And have I mentioned...JULIA RULES!   :)  :-*[/color]

1004
Barnabas returns to the Old House, looking dazed. Julia comes downstairs and asks what happened. He doesn't answer right away, and finally tells her he's all right. Nicholas is gone, he says, stunned--he just disappeared, in a blaze of flames on Widows' Hill--I followed Nicholas there, who was calling someone who must control fate--he was begging, pleading, not to be sent back to where he came from--then he burst into flames. Has he disappeared forever? wonders Julia. "Yes," says Barnabas, "Nicholas is gone!" Julia repeats "Nicholas is gone!" several times and hugs Barnabas, thrilled the danger is over. He pats her back, as relieved as she is.

I Love that moment...too bad that hug didn't lead to anything else.  ;)

She peels back an eyelid, finds her pulse slow, but she'll be all right. We can't let Vicki wake up here, says Barnabas--Julia, get your car.
"Shall I make plans for the rest of the night, too?" asks Julia pointedly. "Shall I find Willie, tell him to bring a coffin to this room?--a coffin that you may need at sunrise, because that's the risk you're taking, Barnabas. Or shall we go try and find Adam?" Barnabas soberly considers her words and says he made that decision when he fired that shot. "Help me, Julia," he begs.

I love it when he begs... LOL. Look what's right in front of you, Barn...not psuedo-Vicki, JULIA. Sigh.  ;)
Interesting B&J moments. Love those captions, too!   :-*

Hi Heather,

well, this is highly extra-canonical, but one of my favorite tales is an unfinished novel Connie wrote a while back where Julia and Quentin were lovers.  When the novel starts, Barnabas (who is human) is starting to fall in love with Quentin, who's dealing with the flak from finally being released from the remnants of his curse.

It's a complicated story, and quite the maverick, but I thought she wrote Julia brilliantly--very true to GH's performance.

Thanks Steve  :)  I think I know what story you're talking about. "Divine Awakening," right?  Yup--that's a good one. I have a predilection for the more...adult...stories so, go figure.  LOL  I really need to check that out that again. I've only read a few chapters here and there, back when I first began discovering DS fanfic on the web--I never would've thought of that scenerio, but the way Connie wrote that is so very touching, funny, and real in it's own way.  KUDOS Connie, mucho KUDOS  (if I could insert a clapping smiley I would - LOL)!

After losing a draft I was working on for over a year  :'(  I needed a little cheering up today - thanks all...  :)
