Wow! I had no idea about that Sci-ography or whatever it was called. I'd be pretty pist too if it was falsely advertised as one thing and then they ended up doing it in a completely different way.

I have the DS Reunion and Special Edition DVD, so I'll check on your question Housefly.

Personally, I don't think that a reunion special or whatever will ever happen, either. We have the fests each year so I guess that is what is supposed to tide us over on our DS stars fix. It would be nice for a reunion to pop up though.

Current Talk '06 II / Has TV Land Snubbed Us?
« on: November 07, 2006, 08:22:45 PM »
Just sitting here and watching Bravo's 100 greatest TV characters of all time. Not sure if any DS peeps made the list or not, but they were interviewing Andy Griffith at some TV Land awards show, and a thought struck me.

TV Land does all these things on old shows. Charlie's Angel's, Star Trek, Dynasty, etc etc. What about Dark Shadows? Not only has DS lasted as long as or longer than those other shows, but has been attempted to be brought back twice as well (Star Trek fits this too, I know)!

So why don't we see more DS specials on the air? How about an E! True Hollywood Story? (Even though they only like shows with BIG trouble behind the camera). What about a TV Land reunion special?

Could we be getting ignored like this because we have fests every year? Star Trek has fests! I'm not seeing it.

If anyone knows the answer, feel free to inform.

You know, I have to agree that Angel and Barnabas and the soul thing aren't EXACTLY the same, but there are some similarities I think.

I was just mulling this over, as a matter of fact, and realized that Barnabas and Angelique are so much alike that it's uncanny. Barnabas really has no room to criticize Angelique or say that he'll never love her. Here's why:

What did Ang. do? She did anything and everything she could to get the man that she loved, even if it meant killing people in her way, or doing obscene things to them.

Hmm. What did Barnabas do? He bit Willie, made him capture Maggie, beat Willie when he tried to help Maggie escape, made Julia kill Dr. Woodard so that he wouldn't find out that he was keeping Maggie, tried to kill Maggie when she wouldn't comply, then made Julia erase her mind when she remembered what had happened to her.

Seems awfully alike to me. So all this time Barnabas was a huge hypocrite, and I never realized it. Sometimes I can be slow.

If anyone is interested in hearing it, they posted the song on their MySpace page... http://www.myspace.com/mychemicalromance

Thanks Midnite! And yes, I suggest everyone run right over the IMMEDIATELY and listen to it. It's my new fav. song.

Roger Davis reacts as he finally watches an episode of DS and realizes how bad his acting TRULY is.

OMG I'm dying because of "Good Lovin'"!!! That sooooo fits!!!

I don't know if anyone is a fan of today's music, but I just picked up the new My Chemical Romance (MCR) CD and it is totally awesome! (though has no relation to that new Vh1 movie about the 80s  [hall2_wink]) It is today's rock, but with an edge that SCREAMS 70s/80s GOOD rock in some songs. Absolutely Great. Anyway, their first single is called "Welcome to the Black Parade".

When I was a young boy
My father took me into the city
to see a marching band                             (Barn and Joshua going to Martinique)

He said son when you grow up
Would you be the savior of the broken
The beaten and the damned?           (Self explanatory, though I'm sure Joshua didn't want Barn to be a vamp!)

He said will you
Defeat them
Your demons
And all the non-believers
The plans that they have made?           (HELLO Barn being the rescuer of the Collins family!)

Because one day
I'll leave you
A PHANTOM
To lead you in the summer
To join the black parade

When I was--a young boy
My Father
Took me into the city
To see a marching band
He said son when you grow up
Would you be
The savior of the broken
The beaten and the damned?

Sometimes I get the feeling
She's watching over me
And other times I feel like I should go            (Ang is always watching!)

And through it all
The rise and fall
The bodies in the streets                                             (oh how many!)
And when you're gone we want you all to know

We'll carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone belive me
Your memory will carry on
Will carry on

And in my heart I can't contain it
The anthem won't explain it

A world that send you reeling
From decimated dreams
Your misery and hate will kill us all             (It sure killed Carl!)

So paint it black
And take it back
Let's shout it loud and clear
Defiant to the end we hear the call            (Defiant? Barn? Never!)

To carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone belive me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches                            (Josette Marches! Get Ang! Bite her! Pull her eye out!)

On and on we carry though the fears
Disappointed faces of your peers
Take a look ta me
'Cause I could not care at
All

Do or die
You'll never make me
because the world
Will never take my heart
Go and try
You'll never break me                        (Barn and Ang always fought!)
We want it all
We want to play this part

I won't explain
Or say I'm sorry                   (Not until 1840 anyway!)
I'm unashamed
I'm gonna show my scar             (and boy did Barn leave many)
Give a cheer
For all the broken
Listen here
Because it's who we are

I'm just a man
I'm not a hero
Just a boy who had to sing this song
I'm just a man I'm not a hero
I
Don't
CARE!

We'll carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches on!

Hey, how about this:

An evil pimple that becomes SO large that it has the ability to take over David's brain, possessing him, and making him do things he wouldn't normally do like dance the jig, push his father down the stairs, claim Barnabas is a vampire, and all that!

Oh wait....that already happened. But maybe we could use the evil pimple strategy in another way? Instead of possessing David, the energy of the evil pimple could transfer to Barnabas when he bites David, and then Barnabas would need injections from Julia so he could be whole again.

Hmm. Maybe MB is right. I got into Nancy's sauce a little too much.  [hall2_wink]

The only thing I take issue with in your post is the assertion that Barnabas was soulless.  This distinction was never clearly defined in the DS universe as it was in the Buffyverse, so that is something that would have to be ironed out.  I don't think we can just assume that Barn had or did not have a soul during any given period.    [hall2_smiley]

Wow... that was one amazingly geeky paragraph, even for me!!  Bed time for ShadowsAtlanta!

That's true, but I was just applying the basic logic of "When Angel was evil (except when he burned Darla and Dru) he had no soul, and when Angel was good, he had a soul." Take out Angel's name and put in Barnabas'. Same thing.

Even though it wasn't clearly defined on DS, Barnabas' "guilt" or "conscience" over what he had done is basically the same concept that Joss came up with for Angel and eventually Spike's soul on Buffy. It makes them feel guilty for what they have done, thus turning them into a reluctant vampire.

And, not geeky at all. I'm right there with ya.  [hall2_wink]

But how that actually took place is anyone's guess because, well, the writers weren't about to tell us - even if the show had continued past April 1971.  [wink2]

No, if the show had've continued, the writers would have sent Barnabas and Julia back in time, had them switch bodies Quentin and Petofi style, then sent them back to the present and had them act like their old sleves again, only to realize that once they hit 1980 that they are only masquerading because Barnabas wanted to see what it was like to be a woman and Julia wanted to see what it was like to suffer from Angelique's curse, at which point Angelique would have returned and done some kinda hocus pocus to switch them back, but only would've trapped Julia in Barnabas' body forever, getting herself (Angelique) stuck in the same body with Julia, forcing Julia to beat her (Barnabas') body to death, leaving her and Angelique BOTH dead, and Barnabas stuck in Julia's body only to realize too late that Adam REALLY had the hots for Julia, and they are destined to be together so Barnabas MUST hook up with Adam, which is really like hooking up with himself because Adam is made from his life-force.

WHEW! *wipes brow* Try THAT on for size!

Polls Archive / Re: Films that have plots that influenced Dark Shadows

I keep trying to think of a movie that might have influenced DS. But gosh darn it, I just wasn't alive before DS, during DS, or even right after DS. So that pretty much disqualifies me from this category. The best thing I can think of is those classical Universal movies--Dracula, The Mummy, Wolfman, Creature from the Black Lagoon, et al.
