I can only imagine the riots that she would've started if she had started blabbing about the adult film industry.

J: Not only do I have the floral "Goodnight Face Mask" from Mary Kay, but I also have one from Avon. And, if you act right now and purchase both, I'll throw in Collinsport's most famous Afghan as your free gift!

Julia: Carolyn! The most awful thing just happened! I was helping Mrs. Johnson remove her pie from the over and the heat made all my mascara melt my eyes shut! Ohuuhh (Julia's whining) What are we going to do!?

Julia: Barnabas I must say you are looking particularly radiant today.
Barn: Quiet Julia! I'm in my dark place.

Unfortunately for Evan Hanley, plastic surgery was only in its infant stages in 1897.

Polls Archive / Re: DS characters on the campaign trail?

I voted for three because I couldn't decide.

First, I voted for Quentin because his charm and wit and good looks would win over many people, though I'm not sure he would have a handle on politics.

I also voted for Gerard, because he could just bewitch everyone to vote for him. Again, no handle on politics.

But, the one I think would be most suited is Prof. Stokes. He seemed to be a very well rounded and intelligent man, who could perhaps be the Governor of Maine or something. He's really the only one I think that could do the job and actually be somewhat of a success at it.

In an ideal world, however, I'd never want ANYONE from the DS verse in office.

A number of years ago I convinced my mother to name one of the puppies we kept from a litter we had, Josette. We called her Josie for short. Unfortunately we ended up selling her (much to my dismay) and she too died before her time. Must be a name curse or something.  [hall2_wink]

I also have a dog named Willie, who is rather nervous, and an Elliot (as in Stokes).

Willie: You put me in this apron and then just abandon me to go upstairs with Vicki!
Burke: Oh Willie, please! You know I love you! It's just that an apron on Vicki does more for me. It's not you.

Great list, David! That covers the initial storylines post-Barn.

But I'm still racking my brain trying to come up with 10 that can somewhat cover the entire series in just 10 episodes. That is amazingly difficult. lol.

Current Talk '06 II / Re: Who was the scarier ghost, Quentin or Gerard?
« on: November 09, 2006, 04:47:42 AM »
I think that Quentin is scarier too. But Gerard LOOKED scarier than Quentin......that glare.....YIKES!! But I think the reason that Gerard wasn't as scary was because all that was done before with Quentin, so we kind of knew what to expect when he came around.

So, I think Gerard had the scarier face, but Quentin had more of a scary effect because he was the original one.

I always think the serial aspect of DS is part of the problem.  While other series may have continuing developments of characters, the basic shows are still separate, individual stories.  If they want to do a marathon or something on DS, it isn't as easy to come up with something.

This is true, but I'm sure that if I had to sit down and come up with the 10 most important episodes of DS, for a 5 hour marathon, I could probably do it. Here are a few that spring to mind:

1. Barnabas' introduction (1967)
2. Barnabas' curse (1796)

I was trying to come up with an episode from 1897, but there are so many episodes and several plotlines to cover, so I can't pick just one. Perhaps two from that timeline.

Anyone care to add to the list?

The only canon characters that I think were spot on were Roger, Carolyn, and David. I can accept David going through his teenage years and wanting to explore the hippie camp, as well as Carolyn wanting to go there after being forced to (mostly) lead a prudish life. Roger's remarks about how they were desecrating the land etc etc were so hilarious to me because I could picture Louis in the drawing room, brandy in hand, spouting those very things out.

BUT...

As far as Barnabas, Julia, Quentin, etc, go, I think that they were COMPLETE misrepresentations. There is no way, IMO that
Barnabas would've agreed willy nilly to just marry Julia, especially if he didn't have the true feelings for her. I mean, look at all those times that she was demonstrating that she loved him and he never reciprocated. There's no way he would just do it to make her happy.
And I also think that Julia was written wrongly, because he outlook on what is going on and particular "revenge" feel that I got from her wasn't right.

And Quentin, for the little he was included, was described totally wrong, as has been mentioned before.

Yes, I'd love to see DS on a channel again, and agree that SoapNet would be the likely choice for that. I believe there were talks of SoapNet picking it up, but like usual, nothing ever came of it.

And even though we have our DVDs, and I watch at least one episode every day if I can find the time, there's something about a movie or a tv show being on TV that makes it more appealing. I have a couple of shows on DVD and have TONS of movies, but I rarely pull them out to watch, and if they are on TV I usually always watch them. Funny how that happens.

BTW, does anyone here have Directv? I saw an add for the Horror Channel the other day and can't find it on my service. Anyone know if you have to have a special package to get it? Or what channel it is?

Perhaps I'll check the site.

Well if you count Angelique's Descent as canon, then you do have a reason for Angelique being that way.

I know, I know, let the stoning commence. lol. Personally I don't think it's canon. Only the show is.

But, the mention of Diabolis letting Ang go if she gets the love of a man brings me to something else.....
In 1897 Ang tells Barnabas that she has to get the love of a mortal man in order to stay out of hell and live a normal life, which is what she wants. But, the catch is that she can't use magic to get him.
Now I can't remember if she said that she can't use it to directly influence him, or she just can't use it at all. If it is the latter, then wouldn't she have been sent to the firey pits a long flipping time ago?

She used TONS of magic to get Barnabas to try to come to her--Making Joshua disappear, putting Vicki in danger with Trask, driving Josette to Jeremiah, etc etc. Not to mention that she used magic as a blackmailing force to get Quentin to let Amanda Harris go. Hmm. Seems fishy to me.
