While we are on the subject of Perry Mason, wasn't there some pattern of the actual murderers being from Bakersfield? I seem to remember Perry always sending Paul  "...up to Bakersfield to check out this story." I guess Buck Owens was running some kind of Murder Inc. or training hit men. And where else do you see Alan Hale   :'(  blubbering away, "I didn't mean to kill him, it was self defense."

As some of you may have heard. All My Childrens' matriarch Ruth Warrwick passed away earlier this week. She was for many years the wife of Louis Edmonds ' Langley Wallingford character on AMC, as Phoebe Tyler Wallingford. Here is a link to the IMDB obituary.

http://www.imdb.com/news/wenn/2005-01-18

The Wallinfords were often referred too more often than seen on the show in recent years, but their work was often spritely, comical and usually worth watching.

Calendar Events / Announcements '05 I / Adrian Paul Action Figure Planned
« on: January 19, 2005, 11:35:53 PM »
Adrian Paul, who played Jeremiah Collins in the 1991 NBC Dark Shadows revival will have a collectible figure of his likeness from the "Highlander" series released later this year. The figure will be produced by Sidesshow Toys, and will be similar to the figures planned for Barnabas and Quentin that are being produced by a competitor listed here a few months ago. Go to
http://www.sideshowtoy.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=0
and click on the Highlander Press release to see a prototype.

I love the Sideshow figures myself, as a classic Universal horror films fan. They have done excellent work on the Lugosi, Karloff, Chaney, Dwight Frye et al figures, from all the films that so influenced Dan Curtis, many of which he remade after including in Shadows storylines. Look through their archives while there. They do many other films, military and history figures. I have to admit I love their Planet of the Apes line. Even if they aren't doing the upcoming DS figures, I am glad someone is.

Fans of this film should order the Video Watchdog issue (from several years ago--but I know they sell back issues on their site) with a big article all about Seizure.  I seem to recall that Martine Beswick was in a "trance" in the scene where she walks over broken glass and she was doing it for real.

I also heard from someone, somewhere that none of the actors ever got paid for their work, or if they were paid, it was a looonggg time coming.

I'd be *very* surprised if Ollie Stone ever signs off on Seizure's DVD release but it seems as if he does not own the rights to the movie so who knows.

The issue of Video Watchdog with the Oliver Stone and Martine Beswicke interviews and article on Seizure is # 26, Jan/Feb 1995 with the Jurrasic Park cover. Unfortunately their website lists this issue as out of print.
I remember Jonathan discussing this film during the Q & A after one of his speaking engagements. From the way he spoke, I wouldn't be surprised if the experience led to his shying away from making feature films. He stated as noted above the best part was dining with Christina Pickles and Joe Sirola. I do remember Martine Beswicke having nice remarks on Jonathan is her interview in the magazine. I have also heard that Oliver Stone  >:D no longer lists the film in his official biography. I never thought the film was that bad, it has some nice nasty scares, especially from the Herve Villichaize character. The film had a brief VHS release with a painted cover. I enjoy it, it is very surreal, dark and has a great concept. I kind of liked the novelty of Jonathan uttering a light curse. If they want to run it at a DS convention, I would be happy to bring my copy as it is a bit of a rarity nowadays.

I can't believe that Stokes didn't know. The man was a brilliant master of deduction, after all. (Who else could have figured out that Leona Eltridge was in fact Danielle Roget?!) So, my theory -  and one that quite a few other cousins share - has always been that even though Stokes did figure things out, for his own personal reasons (perhaps out of respect for Barn, respect for his ancestor Ben's devotion to Barn (to which Stokes had frequently referred) or whatever) he simply never let on...

I think that is a good deduction. I likewise often wondered why Barnabas wouldn't have placed even more trust than he did in Prof Stokes, as he had Ben, realizing of course they were different people. Perhaps had the series gone on...

Likewise, I voted for both Stokes, with my third for Matthew Morgan. I think Jonathan Frid and Thayer David had excellent onscreen chemistry in all their scenes together. I think Thayer is quite fascinating offscreen too in the stories I have heard. I also highly reccomend Thayer's work in Rocky, The Eiger Sanction and Journey to the Center of the Earth. I love the Count Saknussem with his skulking and deceptions.

I think Matthew Morgan is a somewhat underrated character. First, Thayer was one of the few actors on DS to attempt a real "down east" regional accent, what with so many of the cast being southerners, not that that ever bother me as another southerner, but it gave him authenticity. I think Matthew and the Old House ghosts really set the bar for what DS would be able to do from then on. (I often think DS did ghosts better than any other type of supernatural character or event.)

I think Thayer always layered his characters so well. He was the consummate character actor. Plus that hearty laugh.

Great Thayer lines:  "No! No! Mr. Barnabas, don't ask me to do that."
"I usually get asked whether I prefer sherry or port."
                            "More rum, more rum."
"Cheese. I ususally like a good cheddar."
"I have but one god and his name is Petofi."

I placed one of my votes for Roger (1970/PT) which I think is his most underrated performance. He does a fantastic job of accentuating the worst aspects of "Regular" Roger and yet adding degrees of pathos and sympathy along with the dark secret that holds the key to the biggest mystery of Parallel time. He was never better. :'(

[santa_smiley] Is William Shatner on that episode along with Diana? I bought a picture of her and him togther is swanky clothes from herself at one of the DS conventions and she said it was her Man from UNCLE appearence. I don't recall seeing that episode ever. I did catch part of her Tarzan film on AMC tho.

[santa_cheesy] Seems to me I remember Dark Shadows being a category at least once on Jeopardy. I definitely remember KLS's book being the high dollar question under the category of "Almanacs" as well as a question on Willie Loomis. I'm sure "The Farmer's Alamanac" was under the Alamanc category as well. Anyone else remember DS question son game shows?

Perhaps his lines will go like this...

Roger (dials phone)

(Rings, answer)
Roger : I   uh, I uh

Girl on phone: Yes?

Roger: Yes, yes. Is this 1313 Elm Lane? I have a driver ready to make a delivery. Is there anyone at your address now who can sign for it.

Girl: Well, I'm getting ready to leave. Tell the driver there is no one here to sign for it.

Roger: So, uh, what do I tell the driver?

Girl: Tell him there is no one here to sign for it !

He should have this scene down.

Later he delivers the package, and sits down. The shades fall down and the door drops off the hinges.
Calmly he says, : I bet you love having company during the holidays.

Merry Christmas Roger, wherever you are!

I am not much of a liquers afficiaonado, but during a Sci Fi run of DS, my ex roommate and I bought some brandy to have to play a Roger Collins drnking game. On our first try, we sat on adjacent chairs, and after a long silence, John said, "You suppose they all (brandies, sic) taste like cough syrup?" I will admit years later Diane and I were at a nice restaurant and I had Amontillado as an after dinner drink and had somewhat similar feelings. Now, wines I like. I remembered Prof. Stokes remarks on liking sherry and Port and I can more agree on the Port.
