There's a fascinating interview with Welles in TWODS 59/60!

I'm super bummed that the NODS release will be sans that scene especially.  I remember being so shocked when I received my copy of the DS Music Book back in the mid-90's and, upon gawking at crimson-coutured LP featured on the cover, thinking to myself, "I don't remember Angelique wearing anything in NODS except that filmy white sex-gown!"

I recently rewatched the 1897 Laura/Angelique smackdown, Gothy dear, and I never, EVER tire of it.  Angelique in 1897 is mostly awesome (minus a few occasions where Petofi gets the better of her and that less-than-satisfying explanation for her behavior in the latter part of the storyline, PLUS, as I remembered last night, the confusion over her last name) ... really, REALLY powerful for the first time in the series.  I like to give credit to Violet Welles for adding some sass to OFW and allowing her the upper hand more often than the times she was under Nicholas' thumb ... or Petofi's ... or Judah's ...

Sooooo ... what's the deal with LP's newest tome?  Amazon lists two separate release dates -- October 18th and August 20, 2013 -- and the cover image has disappeared.  AND the publisher is no longer listed as "Tor" ... now it's "Canvas."  Anybody got the inside scoop?

Picked up #2 *and* #3 yesterday (as well as the new mainstream issue of DS).  Wow.  Wow, wow, wow.  At least in #2 the DS characters looked more or less like their TV counterparts (including the werewolf; um, can anyone answer why Quentin is a werewolf in BOTH series, and one who can change at will to boot?).  #3 ... not so much.  (Who the hell decided that "youngling" was an acceptable term for Barnabas to use ... a lot?)  Terrible dialogue, and I'm sorry, I just don't see why these two properties were mingled.  Cross-overed.  Whatever.  Not a good match.  Barnabas and Quentin at a bathhouse?  Seriously?

I refer you to The Collinsport Historical Society, which perfectly sums up my own feelings for this misbegottenosity:  http://www.collinsporthistoricalsociety.com/2012/10/review-dark-shadowsvampirella-2.html

It's been sold out or nearly sold out almost everywhere I've gone the past week.

I stopped at Target after school yesterday to pick up the BluRay ... and it was sold out!  I had to go to -- shiver -- Walmart.  But it was worth it.   [hall2_grin]

I assumed that Barnabas ate the hippies because, as he did with the workmen, he was hungry, not necessarily to shut them up.  I actually really liked the fact that he *really* killed people; it shows him as a more complicated, troubled character, like OS Barn.  I've been watching 1897 recently, and -- though I realize that killing [spoiler]Carl was probably more of a step to allow John Karlen time off from the series -- Barn's murder of Carl is still truly disturbing.[/spoiler]

But I *like* disturbing.   [ghost_shocked]

If it was, it was never published.  I have the last issue, and it was beautiful -- completely different in tone, both in the writing and the art work.  I was especially intrigued by the way they were weaving Laura Collins through the narrative, as it was obvious that her likeness was based on Lysette Anthony.

I suppose we'll never know.  Sigh.

My store didn't have the Vampirella crossover.  Possibly just as well.

I LOVED the cover of the DS issue; unfortunately, the story inside didn't feel very much like Dark Shadows to me at all.  I thought the Innovation take on the revival in the 90s was more successful.

Okay, maybe I'm being an uber-crazy fan as I write this, but ... wasn't Crystal Cabot really just Angelique in disguise?

That picture strikes an unnerving chord in me too.   [ghost_smiley]  And this is the third time Carrie has been remade ... there was a fairly dreadful TV remake about ten years ago which my roommate and I at the time mocked ceaselessly ("Shut up!"  "You shut up.").  'Salem's Lot too has been remade twice, and I have a feeling that another one is probably around the corner.   [ghost_wub]

I wonder what constitutes a DS "purist"?

I'm thrilled with that picture of Angelique looking out the window which I've never seen before; seems to be a variation of that photo shoot with Lara Parker looking melancholic that was so heavily featured in The Dark Shadows Companion.
