Someone here, either Gothick or Gerard, wrote a story that explains all the loose ends and shows how 1840 changed things in 1971.

I've written one that deals with how Angelique and Barnabas met in 1972, and I tie loose ends as they come up.  The first one is short (as in not novel-sized) and is the first 24 hours or so surrounding them meeting each other again.  And then one that is novel-sized that deals with the next few weeks or so of their lives and how much they are changed, and how Things are also changed around them.

In the second novel-sized one which I'm still working on, due to a long illness and death in my family, I'm bringing more changes into the family due to Certain Things that happened in 1840, bringing in a few extended members of the family (they HAD to know Other People) and also dealing with several unsolved mysteries:  Elizabeth's life before Paul and some info on Victoria's story.

Now that I'm not obsessing about the Fest (of course, next year is already announced, so looking forward to that...), I will be spending some time getting back into it.

Another hint?  Or just going along with the spooky setting...

When Vicki gets off the train (and seeing no taxi), she asks Burke how people are expected to get into Collinsport from the station.  He offers three modes of transportation:  "...broomsticks, unicorns...and chauffeured cars."

They take #3... ;D

Opal.  Wasn't that the stone that Nicholas put into that Egyptian cup thingy that was supposed to tell Maggie's future?  (I'm still operating on jet lag here, so memory might not be what it should be.)  Or did I miss that?  Is it on the list already?

Damn I was looking for buttons! If I knew you had some I would have TOTALLY bought some! Nice meeting you by the way.

Thanks, Arashi! Nice meeting you, too!  And I still have buttons left.  A few Tarrytown 2007 and some undated Collinwood and Historical Society ones.  Next year, new design!

Finances were limited this year due to having to fly across the country, so...I bought...um...food?  They don't feed you any more on those flights!  ::)

I PLANNED on buying another Bug & Critters book from Lara, but sort of ended up playing Seat Monitor while everybody else got autographs and stuff, so I guess I'll just order it from her. I did get to say Hi to Lara and Kathryn and Betsy and Marie!

And thanks to everybody for buying my buttons!!!!   ;D  I was able to pay for my taxi ride from Providence, R.I. to North Attleboro, MA during my Victoria Winters Genealogy Tour---and still have some $$ left over!!!!

What do you think about Angelique harming Sarah because Barnabas refused her love?
Was she in the right when she turned Barnabas into a vampire in the end?

Well, the "Sarah" thing was just downright wicked, not to mention terrible in my opinion.  I think if you have a conscience, if you have empathy for others, then yes, it was horrible.  But that's considering it from our point of view.  If you were free and easy with your powers, if you distanced yourself from us "foolish mortals," and thought that everybody was just another tool to use to get what you wanted-and weren't you sooo clever for doing it-- then it makes sense.

Honestly, Black Arts 101 certainly didn't place much value on "consequence."  If you cast a spell on someone, or curse them, be SURE you can remove the curse as well, because somewhere down the road you just MIGHT realize you've made a BIG mistake.  And speaking of mistakes, Angie made some HUGE ones.  She regretted trying to strangle Barn, and had to hurry to undo her magic and then when she successfully cursed him to be a vampire, she changed her mind once she realized she didn't die.  And then she couldn't undo it.  (Although some 40 years later, she was able to do it so easily "POOF" that it wasn't even exciting enough to give air time to.  Go figure.)  Yes, our Angie was great at actions.  Not great on figuring out what would happen as a result of her actions, but nobody's perfect, lol!

Can you just see it?   >:D  "Angelique...about this latest curse you've come up with...Do you see a problem with 'EVERYBODY who LOVES Barnabas dies?'   Let's think about this..."

P.S.  Well, not QUITE as eloquent as "the post that got away," but it's got a nice beat.  I can dance to it.

Well, I just wrote an eloquent response to this and my computer ate it.  When I resurrect my thoughts, I'll be back.

It was made pretty clear in this conversation in Barnabas' room on Angelique's first night in America:

A:  You're so different here.  You're as cold as that wind outside your house.

B:  I am not cold, but I want to be.  I have to be.

A:  Why?

B:  Because, Angelique, I didn't know that we were going to be married then.  To be honest, I thought I was in love with Josette but I didn't realize she was in love with me.  But now that we've written, (pause) well, you and I... It's impossible.

In that same scene, he blamed his own weakness for their affair and admitted that he continued to think of her after leaving Martinique.  I'm certain his dalliance with Angelique was was borne out of passion and not rebellion.

I agree with Midnite, and of course, this scene.  And later, when Barnabas offered himself to Angelique if she would only stop the curse, he promised (and he told Julia later) something like, "to get back what we had in the beginning."  That's not a quote--I don't have the tape or DVD--but I always thought that second scene sort of confirmed that Angelique wasn't just a one-night dalliance.

I can certainly relate to computer problems!  I had written a reply to this thread a few days ago, however my computer has an auto-shut down switch that it likes to activate indiscriminately.  So here's my reply yet again:

I had to laugh one time at Barnabas and his own brand of 'casual."  I forget the storyline, but there he was at the Old House, hanging out--maybe reading a book or something, and his ONLY nod to casual dress was that grey/black silky looking coat/dress sort of thing.  Like a fancy smoking jacket that was longer and more full--except he wasn't smoking.

It was like he had come in. and gone, "Whew!  I need to relax!"  So he took off his cape and suit coat and put on this coat/dress thing OVER what he was already wearing.  He didn't EVEN take off his TIE!!!!

Talk about CASUAL DRESS!  THAT Barnabas!  What a BOHEMIAN!!!!  LOL!!!!

Hey Pans!

You didn't tell me!!!  :o  Happy Birthday!  May all of your ebay browsings bring you lots of fun stuff!!!  ;D (You know me, I'd have all the emoticons allowed on this message--there are lots of great ones, but the old computer I'm running on won't cooperate, so I'll have to make my own!  [cake and candles on the table in front of the window in the drawing room at Collinwood]

Hope you have a great day!!!  Go for the gusto!  Life is what you make it!  Don't let anything good pass you by!  [Quentin reaching over the cliff at Widow's Hill to snatch Beth before she fell.]  Yeah.  Like that!!!!

I'm sending the Birthday Weasells to decorate your home for the occasion!  [dancing weasell with noisemaker and party hat]  [empty candy wrappers]

Don't let them eat all the goodies!!!!

P.S.  Mrs. Johnson didn't make the cake.

Hi,  I've been away for awhile because my computer died.  Now I'm online with an old one, but I'm having problems.  Is there something I need to reconfigure in my computer?  Some switch I need to flip so this new system can work?  I'm finding it hard to distinguish between the light smoke color and the dark.  Anybody else having this problem?

Thanks,

Hey guys - any idea when we will know about event tickets going on sale? I'm not subscribed to any newsletter, so if that's the way to get it, can you point me toward where I would subscribe to such a thing?

Hey HC, Probably the best thing to do is to send in an SASE to the DSFestivalFolks.  That way, you could be on their mailing list and would get the info without having to wait for it to be posted.

Well, Judy, to my recollection, it is YOU who started the staking of the cheesecake, complete with that nice jammy blood -- LOL! I merely followed suit because, alas and alack, it was a serious case of monkey-see, monkey-do.
::) We were obviously sitting at different tables.  There was no doo of ANY kind at MY table and I, if you will recall, was a perfect ANGEL.  [9366]  And was it MY fault that the cheesecake was calling out to be staked?  Why ELSE would they have supplied that cherry red ooze with which to decorate?

Seriously, you've GOT to hope that they don't play that outrageous clip of Joan Bennett picking Ed Grimley (who does NOT belong to me) or I'll totally lose it and be under the table laughing hysterically when JF comes by!

...Jonathan is going to sign an item ahead of time to pass out to all attendees and during the banquet he will go around to each table and personalize the item for those who want that...

:o  He's coming around to EACH TABLE??    [a2a3]  All right, Adamsgirl!!!  NO staking the cheesecake at the banquet this year!!!  Can't take you ANYWHERE!!!
