Current Talk '05 I / Re: Guys Night Out
« on: March 10, 2005, 06:52:53 AM »
Willie tricks Barnabas into going to a strip club with him.  Barnabas is appalled - and yet fascinated by a certain young woman who reminds him of his long lost Josette.  Her name is Josie and she gives him a lap dance whereupon he falls hopelessly in love with her and asks her to be his bride.  She accepts his proposal.  But when she returns to the stage to continue entertaining the crowd, her pole is struck by a bolt of lightning!  She is electrocuted and singed to a crisp.  Barnabas wails in torment for his lost love while backstage Angelique cackles while blowing out the smoking flame from her index finger.  >:D

Current Talk '05 I / Re: Things TO Love About DS
« on: March 09, 2005, 06:15:28 AM »
To this day, the DS theme music  just thrills me.  Okay, down girl!  I loved the decrepit charm of the Old House, Eagle Hill Cemetery, the chemistry between Barnabas and Julia and the humanization of both.  The scenes between Drs. Woodard and Hoffman were splendid (the shock of Dave's death was dulled by the fact that another actor played the role at the time).  The ghosts of Quentin and Gerard.  Vampire Tom Jennings attacking what appeared to be a VERY willing Julia.  Every time Angelique was destroyed was always a good day for me! ;D  Every time Angelique reappeared had me running my fingers through my hair (like a certain DS actor) and muttering "here we go again".  Barnabas when he was BAD and the whole Josette kidnapping storyline.  Actually, too many to list.  The fact that we are even discussing this forty years later says volumes about DS.  It's immortal!

How do you envision Barnabas and Julia finally giving in to their feelings for each other?

Current Talk '05 I / Re: Scariest moments on Dark Shadows
« on: March 07, 2005, 07:36:56 AM »
My scariest moment is pretty lame but here it is - I was a kid just beginning to watch DS during the Jason McGuire story.  I remember being freaked out when Jason and Liz went to the basement of Collinwood to dig up the body of Paul Stoddard.  I had nightmares for a week and was too scared to watch the show for awhile until a friend convinced me I was missing out on a cool show.  So I eased back into it.  My little brother, on the other hand, was terrified by the severed hand of Count Petofi.  All I had to do was bend my fingers into a claw and he'd freak.  Ah, that's when life was good. ;D

« on: March 07, 2005, 07:09:41 AM »
DS Milestones?  Where to begin.  First, the fact that DS was the first soap to feature supernatural elements.  The arrival of Barnabas.  1795 - the first of several trips back in time.  Parallel Time.  I think the arrivals of Barnabas, and later, Julia  shifted the dynamics of the show dramatically.  Had both been killed off as per the original storyline, what a differrent show DS would have been. :o

I'm in full agreement with Heather.  B/J in a state of marital bliss just doesn't jive with DS's dark mood.  However, a long romantic involvement (with a few setbacks thrown in for even MORE torture) wouldn't have affected their "friendship" and alliance as ghostbusters.  Let's face it - the love between them was evident IMHO.  :-* I often thought that Angelique's curse prevented Barnabas from making any moves on the good doctor.  With the others, he only lost a lover; with Julia he stood to lose a lover AND a best friend - much higher stakes.  Is he willing to gamble?  Can he stand to live without her?  This quandary would have made for an interesting storyline.  They kiss...then he pulls back.  Will Julia die  like the others?  Or will she walk away when he denies what they share?  I don't think anyone imagines Julia in an apron, preggers no less, whipping up dinner in the kitchen for her man!  Think Mulder and Scully (minus William - a huge mistake, but I digress).  They'd share a loving moment then they'd be up to their necks in conspiracy theories and little grey men.  The writers didn't dwell on it but it was clearly there.  The DS writers  could have thrown us B/J fans a bone once in a while.  I swear that Sam Hall insisted on a "no kissing" clause in Grayson's contract! At least that's what my school pals used to joke about anyway.  Even though DS dropped the ball on the romance that SHOULD have been, we can still create our own version of what would have happened.  Thankfully, I have a "VERY" good imagination...  Ahhhh.....think I need a cigarette after that. ;D

Does anybody have a photo of Ms. Union handy?

Just checked out Gabrielle Union's photo...yup, another Vogue cover model playing an investigator.  So the sexual chemistry is inevitable.  Sigh....  Does anyone know if Zelda Rubenstein(from the movie Poltergeist) is still alive? ;D  Now she'd make a great partner for Kolchak.

Well i was just about to say. . hasn't a redo of the Night Stalker been done. . i.e. The X-Files?  It seems supersilious to me and likely to fail.

I agrree.  The X-Files was a landmark series that will be the yardstick by which supernatural series will be measured for some time.  I believe that fans are going to expect the same quality or better.  Having Frank Spotnitz on hand is a big plus, but if they're going to play the sexual chemistry card...well, that wasn't the Carl Kolchak I remember and loved.  Speaking of the X-Files, I was a huge fan of the series, yet I always kinda felt that Julia might have been the prototype for  Scully.   There seemed to be a lot of similarities between the characters.
