I've seen Vicky carrying a quilted Chanel-type bag on occasion. She lost a wallet which was found right before she disappeared in one the early shows IIRC.

Vicky gets off the train to take a governess position to a young boy and meet the family she is to work for--the reclusive Liz, the disturbed David, Roger who is hostile (at first). Not to mention the characters who come later--ghosts, a phoenix, a vampire. I always thought that Vicky was the normal one and that it was the Collins family that was odd.

I think Barnabas treated Elizabeth with deference because she was the head of the family, ran the family business and was the mistress of Collinwood. He was a guest of hers. Also she commanded his respect and courtesy by her dignity and bearing. Barnabas was a courtly, polite type anyway (when he wasn't under the vampire curse). I don't think it had anything to do with Naomi.

By the time her role was downplayed the show was dominated by supernatural characters. Maybe TPTB thought this pulled in the ratings and convinced DC to de-emphasize the governess searching for her identity angle. AM/Vicky was never a ghost like Josette/Maggie or a vampire victim like Carolyn. I've wondered why Vicky wasn't meant to play Josette instead of KLAS--I think she resembled the portrait more. I read in one of KLAS's books that she volunteered to play Josette's ghost instead of an extra. Maybe that's why she got to play Josette and not AM. With the downplaying of Vicky's story the show lost some of it's appeal for me.

It wasn't only housewives who sat down to watch Dark Shadows but kids like myself (eleven in 1966). To celebrate, I will watch a couple of my tapes. Also loved the montage. Thanks MB and Midnite for making this forum a fun place to visit.

I think she could have played Julianka or Beth. She could have even played Judith. I always thought Joan Bennett was really a little too old for that part.
