Hey--good point. Sandor you wench (just kiddin')...it's a wonder I didn't think of that.  LOL
Yeah, did she or didn't she--curious minds are dying to know.  Chortle...  ;)

I haven't seen much of the Dream Curse storyline (towards the end of the storyline), but ISTR one ep where Roger and Cassandra talk very pointedly about how they have not yet consumated their marriage and how cold and distant she has been since their marriage, which considering they married the day or day after they met, is hardly surprising. ;) (DS's version of Joe Millionaire? :) )

I gonna post this here since, it's somewhat related.  I was just musing this morening on the mysterious Burke Devlin.  I know he was killed off in a plane crash near oh, what what the name of that city in Brazil? ;) ;D  But why?  To weed out some of the cast?  The viewers weren't taking to the Vicki Burke romance and/or Anthony George? To facilitate the progression of the Barnabas/Vicki/Josette plot?

Speaking of Burke (and veering a little off topic),It's almost a pity that Barnabas was just as surpised by Burke's plane going down as the rest of the family.  It would be very like him at that time to "arrange" a fatal accident to get Burke out of the way, even if it did kill a few others at the same time.

Nelson Collins, have you seen Dan Curtis's version of "Dracula"?  He brings the theme of a lost love reincarnated into the picture, so it's usually thought (by those familiar with Curtis' far superior version) that Coppola and Company took the idea from the TV-movie.

Thanks, Vlad, I do recall that now that you mention it.  it has been literally decades since I watched DC's version of Dracula.  So, if I have this right, Coppola stole it from DC's Dracula, DC stole it from his own DS, which may have gotten it from Univeral's 1932 The Mummy.  Is anyone else's head beside mine spinning yet? lol

Food for thought, cousins;  while the Barnabas/Willie characters may be loosely based on Dracula characters, the actual Barnabas/Josette plot (as near as I can tell) was lifted from Universal's 1932 version of The Mummy, starring Boris Karloff.  Imhotep is awoken after x number of years and meets a woman that is the reincarnation of his lost love.  The plot then follows Imhoteps attempts to bring said lost love back to him.

On the other end of the spectrum, however, we have Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula, which shamelessly cribbed the Barnabas/Josette plot (IMHO) as backstory/flashback material for the film, with Dracula's wife believing him dead and committing suicide, and Dracula meeting Mina Harker 5 centuries later and believing her to the the spirit of his lost Elizabetha reincarnated.

hmm, thanks for that, Gothick. Fascinating!

I am somewhat embarrassed to admit, I didn't think the writers did a whole lot of research, and just cribbed plots and situations from well known stories.  I am chasened, but glad, that the writers seem much more well-read than I thought. :)

Well, Alexandra (and her successors) were pretty much the only actresses to not play any other role in any other time period, so maybe we could have been treated to a 120 year old Victoria Winters Clark? ;D

I went to www.tvtome.com (which has episode guides and lists for almost every television show) and found "Goodyear Television Playhouse".  the show ended in 1957 and there was no episode titled "The House" in the episode guide.

According to the MPI website, The House aired on Goodyear TV Playhouse on September 8, 1957.  Here is the link:

I would love to find out more about this story, MB.  Where did you find your info?  I looked up several of the actors in IMDB and could not find any references to The House or Goodyear Playhouse in any of the credits.

Thanks!

Very true, Vlad.  IIRC, Tom and Chris Jennings are blood Collinses through the Quentin branch of the family, aren't they?

I still think that Victoria, if she is not Elizabeth's daughter, could have been Roger's by the Hanscom girl.  Were there ever any indications that Roger knew who Vicki was?   I understand he questioned Liz bringing Vicki on, but were there any hints that the knew there was more to her than meets the eye (part from his paranoia about Burke that is)?

Current Talk '04 I / The Story of Josette
« on: June 18, 2004, 03:30:48 AM »
I just finished watching ep 345, where Barnabas tells Julia the story of Josette at the top of Widow's Hill.  It's markedly different than what plays out in the 1795 Flashback.  Barnabas tells Julia that his first meeting with Josette was when she came to live at Collinwood as the young new wife of his middle aged Uncle Jeremiah, and how with the passage of years grew discontented with being married to a much older man.  Obviously, this played out very differently in the Flashback.  How many differing versions of Josette's story are there?

I am curious to know just how far ahead were the writers thinking.  From what I have read on this forum, the writers originally envisaged Barnabas as a temporary ratings boost, but kept on due to his popularity.  Still, I find it strange that the times that Barnabas expounded on his time when he was alive, he never mentioned Angelique.   Were there any mentions of the circumstances of his curse?  When did the writer's start thinking about a lengthly flashback and why.

Sorry, I see I am rambling now.  I'll stop. For now. :)

There's a great Frid blooper in the episode where Elizabeth has summoned Maggie Evans to Collinwood as the new governess.

Apologies for the "off topicness" but what exactly were Maggies qualifications for governess?
