Current Talk '04 II / Re: "...an odd girl, vicki"

roger's behavior toward vicki when she first came to collinwood was dreadful. ::)

vicki's behavior is really only "wacky" to those outside the know(like roger)."we" see what vicki sees.every ghost she sees, every time-travel-witch-hunted belief she has is,in fact, true.but one thing that they do to vicki and also to maggie is to "surpress" their memories of traumatic events so that as bits and pieces come back to them they appear ditzy and confused. ::)

Agreed, but every the practical continuty geek that I am, I just don't see how Roger can deny the evidence of his own eyes.  And as for Vicki herself, surely she sill has the dress she was wearing when she returned from 1795 (or is it 96 by that point?)  plus surely she must still have a scar from the GSW. :)

and i too wish vicki had found what she was looking for.it's sad that that part of the story gets dropped. :(

Agreed,  I am still working my way through the series for the first time and I do lament that there was never any resolution to Victoria's search for who she is and where she came from. :(

In order for her to fit in as an employee of the Collins family one would think that it would be necessary for her to have the word "odd" appear somewhere in her resume.  But then she never so much as submitted one or even filled out an application.  She took a job from somebody she had never contacted or even heard of.  That would make her eminently qualified.

To be fair to Vicki though, she was trying to find out about her past.  I mean, she was  raised in a foundling home, her upkeep and education paid for by a mysterious and anonymous benefactor.  Then out of the blue she gets an equally mysterious offer of employment to be companion to a wealthy and reclusive matriarch of a powerful family and governess to a troubled boy.  Frankly, I'd find Vicki a little odd if she hadn't connected the two and taken the job! :)

after vicki returns from 1795 her memories of it are confused but she does believe that she was indeed there.everyone else thinks that's impossible but she perseveres.during brandy and a fireside chat with nicholas roger informs him that vicki is an "odd girl" with a "bizzare and vivid imagination".she "behaves strangely" and indulges in "the most curious of fantasies".
of course "we" know her beliefs to be true but roger does not.wouldn't that make her a mentally disturbed young woman in his view?and why would he allow her to care for his child? ::) ::) ::)

I tend to think the above says much more about Roger than Vicki.  After all. He seems to have put down the disappearance of Vicki to be replaced by Phyllis Wick, her subsequent reappearance in 18th century attire, rope burns about the neck and an almost healed GSW in her shoulder to some sort of mass hysteria or hallucination.  It couldn't have happened the way Vicki says, so it didn't.  The Scully syndrome about 30 years early. ;)

Current Talk '04 II / Logansport and the Cannery
« on: October 14, 2004, 09:53:41 PM »
From my spotty knowledge of DS, it seems the town of Logansport is mentioned on a number of occasions, the most significant being IIRC Burke's attempts to drive the Collines out of business by buying a competing cannery in Logansport.

Is anything ever learned about Logansport or even ever seen or visited?

Since Collinsport was founded by the Collinses, would it be reasonable to suggest that a similar wealthy family, The Logans, founded Logansport?  Could that be one reason why Burke was so anxious to buy up this Logansport cannery?  Was there perhaps a long standing rivalry or feud between the two familys?

This is all speculation of course, but I am bored at work and this idea has been germinating in my head for a while.  Sort of a shame that the writer's didn't think (or wish to) explore this potential mine of characters and storylines.

Watched ep 466 last night and Dr. Lang also used the V word to Julia when she tried to check him out of the hospital!  ;D

FYI, MPI also has the entire Collector's series on sale for $5.98 per cassette.  It would be very tempting if I had about $250 to spare!! :)

Current Talk '04 II / The "V" word
« on: September 30, 2004, 07:00:46 PM »
Apologies if this has been asked and/or covered already, but I find myself wondering.

I admit I have only seen the post-Barnaba eps thru to the end of the 1795 flashback (and a few beyond that) and a big chunk of the Petofi story fro 1897 and I don't recall ever hearing it used.  I seem to recall Barnabas being called "the way you are" or "monster" or other words/phrases to avoid actually saying it.  Has the "V" word ever been used to refer to Barnabas, or any other of the fanged fiends that haunted Collinwood? :)

This is one of the first DS sites I found and despite not being updated for almost 2 years now, it remains one of my favorites stops due mainly to it complete episode by episode synopses (always good for a quick DS fix while at work!)

Anyhoo, I was wondering if anyone knows what is going on with the site?  It stays up, but no updates as I said in almost two years.  I even emailed the webmaster to ask if he/she might be interested in selling/turning over the site and go no reply (I guess that translated to a "no, not interested." :) )

It's a very basic site but one I have a soft spot for.  Thanks!

Current Talk '04 II / Pre-Barnabas Josette Sightings
« on: September 23, 2004, 10:37:52 PM »
Josette seems to have got around quite a bit before Barn showed up, especially during the Laura Collins Storyline.  However, having at this point only read brief synopses of the the Pre-Barnabas eps, I am not sure which appearaces involved a physical manifestation.  I read that KLS (uncredited) played Josette in Ep 70, but is it known what actresses played her at other times?

Angelique created the portrait through magic.  In 1796 when Joshua and Countess DuPres met at the Old House to discuss Barnabas's situation and the fact that Angelique was a witch, the painting hanging above the fireplace began to glow and changed into a likeness of Angelique (a sign that her spirit was near.)  I don't think it was ever commissioned or that any real artist painted it.

Do you know which episode that was?  That does sound really cool.

16 MAGAZINE from October 1969 - featuring the article "Don Briscoe Invites You: 'Come To My Pad'"

A certain Briscoeholic begged, pleaded and cajoled me into making that article one of the first to be posted in the Members' Archive - and who was I not to comply?  ;D

WOOOF!

Pity there are no pics of his "full moon." ;)

Current Talk '04 II / The "Lost" Carolyn Stoddard

I curious as to what the circumstances were that led to Diane Walker playing Carolyn for one episode (578).  Nancy Barrett was in ep 577 and back again in ep 581.

Current Talk '04 II / Re: a riddle for the day
« on: August 22, 2004, 08:37:13 PM »
Oh, but that's easily explainable - not only did Willie have the hidden talents needed to restore Josette's room (and the rest of the Old House) to its former glory, but he was also an expert manicurist. And no doubt Barnabas had instructed him to keep Maggie's nails as perfectly manicured as the "real" Josette's would have been.

LOL!!!  He could have gone into business for himself "Mr. Willie's Hair and Nail Salon'!!
