Vlad, I'd be checking out eBay if I were you. These things can be found for cheaper amounts of money. It may take some time on your part, but it can be done. Be patient. Prices do eventually come down.

Agreed.  I am still shopping for sets 10 and up which are still showing up for $40-45 range including shipping on ebay.  However the old can be bought significantly cheaper if one watches and waits. :)

But where oh where is her aquamarine labcoat???  8)

And the outfit she wore in 1995?

Wouldn't it be funny if Chris (X-Files) Carter were behind the new Night Stalker? ;)

If only. But in the WB pilot's case that seems unlikely. As has been reported, several of the pilot's special effects were never actually completed and at this point it's not likely that anyone will pay to finish them. The lack of completed effects also seems to be a huge stumbling block to the pilot ever being released on video/DVD.  :'(

Ah, I had not realized that the pilot wasn't completely complete :)  Well, hope springs eternal.  Perhaps it might make it as an extra on another release.  After all, Disney released their "work in progress version of Beauty and the Beast."  :P  ;D

I'm thinking about picking up the first set of DS DVDs.  Are they edited like the initial MPI tapes were?  Hopefully not!  I want to start slowly replacing my MPI tapes since they take up a lot of space!!

If you are asking what I think you are, then the answer is no.  The first DVD is 40 complete episodes, not edited like the first 8 (I think) VHS releases were.

For various reasons, the WB declared the new DS pilot "unsalvageable."  It's unlikely that the entire thing will ever air anywhere, although the DS Festival did show clips last August and some sort of presentation is also planned for the July, 2005 weekend.  There was recently an article in Fangoria magazine by one of our resident cousins, Darren Gross, that covered the rise and fall of the pilot plans.

I don't know if it's done anymore, but back in the days before 24/7 saturation of tv programming, pilots for series that were not picked up would usually get at least a token airing.

You know, the tv guide listing would synopsize the show with a note that "this is a pilot for a series that has not been picked up." or something like that.

*keeps fingers crossed* :)

Oh yea, one other question...  were there any weak eras throughout the long extent of this show?

Oh, boy!  You've opened the floodgates now. ;)

I think most fans tend to agree that the Adam story that took place right after the very popular 1795 Flashback and the Leviathan story (interestingly, right after the very popular 1987 Flashback) are generally considered to be two of the weaker storylines in the shows run.

I hasten to add that I myself have not seen the Leviathan story and am just getting started on the Adam story, I cannot offer a personal opinion (yet).

I kind of favor the "no honor among theives" approach.  Recall that Ang first met Victoria in 1795 and did work to divert suspicion from herself to Victoria.  Ang, no stranger herself to lies and deception (pretending to be a simple servant girl) perhaps could not be 100% certain that Victoria wasn't doing exactly the same thing! :)  Then, lo and behold, Victoria is right there in 1968 when Ang shows up as Cassandra!  Now I agree that it is far more likely that Ang thought that Vicki was not worth bothering about, but just maybe she decided that if Vicki could survive a death sentance in 1796, she might just be someone you don't want to mess with too much. :)

As Midnite discovered from the tombstone, Chris and Tom are not twins.  However, for the sake of argument, let's assume that they ARE twins.  Tom still doesn't have to suffer from the curse.  The curse affects the first-born son.  Obviously, even if they are twins, ONE of them has to come out first!  If Chris was born a few minutes before Tom, the magic would affect him and not his brother.

Well, as I point out in my comment above, tombstones are probably not the most accurate way of determining the birth or death of any DS character. :)  But consider this (and this is a big retcon), perhaps all the journeys back and forward (and even sideways) in time that we have seen (and even future trips we never saw), is responsible for all the altered backstories and wrong years quoted or seen.  ;D  Such a trip might be responsible for either a) a future attempt to change the timeline to prevent the curse from ever being visited on Chris, a knock on effect of which was somehow preventing tom and Chris to be born as twins, or b) (and I favor Occam's razor for this explanation) the tombstone maker was given the wrong year or simply made a mistake.

However, it's probably all moot, as MB says they it was never mentioned on the show that they were twins and there has been no public comment by either cast members or writers and also sadly Don Briscoe is no longer with us. :(

Re: Tom and Chris - Are their any cast or writers who have gone on record as to what was intended?

MB - Thanks for the link to the other thread!  Interesting, but as I recall
headstones are not the most reliable for dating the births and deaths of DS characters ;)  ;D
Just one question....don't know if this has ever been discussed:
Why wasn't Joe also a victim of the werewolf curse??
[hdscrt]

That was my next question.  And for that matter
why were Amy and Tom not affected?  Especially Tom since he and Chris were twins?
Current Talk '05 I / Is Joe a Collins?

I seem to recall reading here that
Chris/Tom/Amy Jennings are related to the Collines through Quentin.
But I also recall someone mentioning that they are also realated to Joe Haskell.  Is this ever spelled out?  Is Joe related to the Collinses as well, or
just related to Chris by marriage?
Speaking as someone who in many ways is still a newbie (I have yet to see the entire series yet), I would recommend starting at the very beginning (even I haven't done that yet :) )  But failing that, probably the next best place to start would be episode 210, the episode that introduced Barnabas (or his hand at least).  There are other storylines that have been going on for a while but you get enough information not to be completely lost.  Ep 210 was my first episode, and by its end I was oh so eager for more.

« on: December 22, 2004, 06:58:17 PM »
if memory serves, when Vicki first goes back to 1795, Lt. Forbes is.....outside the Old House?

Why was Forbes in the lives of the Collins' anyway?

IIRC, Lt. Forbes was a friend of Barnabas' and also working for the Collins' shipping line I think as liason to the Navy.

Since we are going to end up not getting the 1991 on DVD, I have a feeling it's going to not happen.  But never know, it's cheaper to come out with a score then a DVD.

May I ask, if you have any more details on this?  I was really hoping for a DVD release of the 91 series.
