Current Talk '04 I / Re:How & when you discovered Dark Shadows
« on: January 15, 2004, 06:55:25 PM »
LIke a few of the other posters I don't remember how I got started watching DS the first time.  I do remeber it was at the time Quentin had first appeared.  Luckily, we had more than one TV so no problem with the Mother who would never watch that crap as she called it.  This is the woman who was glued to the O.J. trail. She did watch just about every other soap.  What I think happened is someone was watching The Edge of Night and than the channel got changed and low and behold DS.  The fog in my brain is starting to part.  My two best friends in grade school we would run to my house to watch.  My house was closer.  Dark Shadows was never mentioned at school.  I don't think most of the kids were allowed to watch.  We were not the "in" kids anyway.   The other girls at our school were very goodie, goodie.  At the time we never would have known if the boys watched or not there was still the social thing of girls and boys hating each other at the time.

I got rehooked , I know I have told this story before sorry for those who have heard it already, our cable had just gotten upgraded and my daughter was home sick and I found the show Mommie had loved so much and thought she might like it.
She did and asked me to tape it when she went back to school.
We watched for about a two years together bringing in her younger brother.  She got to busy with school and dropped DS.  Now it is the family past time to kid me about it.

No Patti,
This has not happened to me.  I did catch some soapnet for a couple of minutes last week and Another World was on it.  I was psched.  It was like visiting an old friend.  I thought of my younger sister, Another World, was her favorite.

Birdie--today is housework day and I have managed to put it off as long as I can.  Also baking cookies--isn't it a rule that you have to eat the ones that break taking them off the cookie sheet.

I told the husband to look for a job down south last night.  I am sick of this.  You know of course that is just talk.  I will drag my tapes up from what my children call the Dark Shadows closet, but I actually need time to be able to watch them.  Not to mention a TV that my college age children are not using.  One went back last night the other one over the weekend coming.

Has everyone on the forum seen Finding Nemo.

I have to say I love it.

Cold, tired, crabby, that is what I am.  It was ever so slightly warmer today with a bit of snow this morning.  More and colder weather on the horizen.  Of all the times for our show to be pff tje air ways.  Of course, I could drag the tapes out of the basememt....

Of course Connie, we also held many a seance.  Still love candles and antiques.  My mother just gave me an antique mantle clock for Christmas.  It chimes so very beautifully, and it is driving the rest of my family crazy.  Yet, another benift.  My husband has been getting points by whinding the banjo clock in the living room too.  O.K. I have a thing fro clocks.  I also have many candlesticks around the house.

I am not so sure I would be as calm as your sister.  Even though he seems to be harmless.  Glad she is able to deal with it with a sense of humor.

Like Gerard I am sad, but also so happy that I was able to revisit a part of my past.  Dark Shadows got me through some hard times, by just letting me escape the real world and journey to a strange village on the coast of Maine.  I hope some day to see it on the tube again.

I won't be watching Sci-fi in the new year.  The channel s****!

Happy New Year to all.  My we all be best with happiness and peace in the year ahead.

Calendar Events / Announcements '03 II / Happy Christmas to all
« on: December 19, 2003, 02:12:00 PM »
I just thought I might take a moment to wish all of our "cousins" a very Merry Christmas.  The days are slipping by fast and my free time lately has been very limited.  It has been a awhile since I have watched my tapes or viewed live.  I am still in denial that Sci-fi is pulling our show.  Maybe it is a good thing that I have been so very busy.  This forum is a special place and with wonderful people who take part.

Cheers to you all!
A very Merry Christmas to you all.

Funny, I didn't get the mailing, but my sister did.  I was the one to purchase the tickets to the fest.  The only other explanation is that the person bringing in the mail throw it away.  It could not be the husband I am sure he would have thrown out the 8 million store ads that come every day, somehow they survive.  I guess MPI didn't like me either.

Patti,
I buy ground pork routinely, I use it with ground beef to make my meatballs.  It is available in most markets around here and I don't have to pre-order it.

Sorry, more food talk.

Patti,
I hope to start my Christmas Cookies this week and put them in the freezer.  When I was young and foolish I started making about five different kinds and it is expected of me to supply them to work and every holiday get together.   I make a real butter cookie, better known as Heart attack on a plate. I am also insane enough to make a kind of candy, Almond Roca.  I am hopelessy trying to find a tie into DS but am failing.
