I find it highly suspicious that both Phyllis Wicks are wearing Angelique's famous orange dress ...

This scene feels VERY DS to me, especially reminiscent of those many (MANY)  Cassandra vs. Barnabas subtext-loaded scenes from 1968.  Plus I love Barnabas' smoking jacket, which is damned close to the one Frid wore in 67/68.

I think they managed to match the clothes.  Not the actress playing Phyllis Wick, however; we started with Dorrie Kavanaugh in November of 1967 and finished with Margot Head in 1968.   [easter_grin]

Oooooh, we haven't seen the last of Jeremiah  yet!  [spoiler]He'll grace us with his presence at least one more time in 1968, during Barnabas' trial at the hands of Trask, and again in late 1897, when Kitty Hampshire feels that ol' familiar Josette tingle.  I love his ghost, personally -- something horrific about that googly eye and the fact that a) he doesn't look or sound remotely like Anthony George, and b) Barnabas didn't shoot Jeremiah in the face.  Not even a little.   [easter_wink][/spoiler]

Doesn't she say, "Hello Barnabas, remember me?" or something like that?  And to be fair, I don't know if Eva Green ever said "remember me" at all during the entire film (but I also was convinced for awhile that Gully McGrath said "I don't like him" in the trailer, vs. the "I like him" he utters in the film).

Barnabas does eventually get to [spoiler]chomp on Nathan's delightful neck in #663 (I think), the weird timeslip back to 1796 which is riddled with continuity errors ... however, it does contain Angelique's best "return from the dead," so I always enjoy it.   [easter_grin][/spoiler]

Fair.  But if the "tea with the tuna" line makes the cut, I'll ...

...why, I'll ...

Okay, I won't anything.  I think it's too cool what you guys are doing.  Love it.   [easter_grin]

(Though, to be honest, the "tea with the tuna" line bugs the crap out of me.)

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

(slightly pacified by the clip)

(okay, very pacified by the clip)

I want a teeshirt with that line on it.   [easter_tongue]

And, fortunately or unfortunately, the pop cultural market is simply saturated with movies and television shows (mostly television shows) employing the same kinds of tropes that DS (mostly) pioneered.  We're watching Hemlock Grove on Netflix, and while it's rather a romp, it -- and Vampire Diaries -- and True Blood -- and (ick) Twilight -- make a new DS series redundant.  I'd love to see someone have a go at it (I still regret that the 2004 remake was yanked before it could even have a chance to flourish) ... who knows?  Like Diana Millay ... er, Laura Collins ... DS has shown us all before how very phoenix-like it can be ...

Oh Gothy, I forgot all about that story!  I don't even have a copy -- if you do, I'd love to read it again!

I saw NoDS for the first time in 1991, when TBS ran HoDS and NoDS one Sunday morning to coincide with the Revival series on NBC.  I was completely confused by NoDS:  still developing my DS trivia, I had labored under the impression that Quentin was a werewolf and that Angelique was in love with Barnabas.  I recall being bored silly by the time Tracy finally got hers at the film's finale, and still confused (but mostly bored).  Years later, however, as my appreciation for Lara Parker, Nancy Barrett, and Grayson Hall has grown, I have come to appreciate NoDS as an atmospheric ghost story featuring my favorite actors from the original series.  I love how Lyndhurst feels like an entirely new estate, separate from HoDS, and, as others have mentioned, I also enjoyed the flashbacks and the actors playing different characters.

I'm one of the people who was incredibly disappointed by the DVD and BluRay releases' entire lack of restoration.  It's beautiful to look at, however (though disconcerting due to missing musical cues and editing SNAFUs, like Angelique's weird, misplaced laughter in the first flashback scene), and that makes me happy.

As a sidenote, as we discuss the plot of NoDS and its similarity to a dozen other haunted house movies in the '70s, the last time I watched "Let's Scare Jessica to Death" was strongly reminded of NoDS:  unstable tenants in a spooky, rural house, the doubling of actors, the creepy/sexy revenant, the intense '70s feel of the piece, the downbeat ending.

This month's Out magazine features an interview with Ryan Murphy, creator of Glee and American Horror Story.  Here's the skinny:

Just got back from the comic shop -- the temporary girl couldn't find my copy, and the owner won't be back 'til tomorrow.  But I found a few preview pages and posted 'em on my blog.  Not sold on the dialogue just yet, but those characters are recognizably Angelique, Barnabas, Jeremiah, and Sarah, so ... call it an upside(?) ...

Ah, Michael T.  ... growr.

That's what I thought.  Ah, well ... an attempt at continuity, then.  Still, appreciating the Blair likeness (and a PORTRAIT), and the Cassandra reference.
