Current Talk '07 II / Edith's Family Secret
« on: October 03, 2007, 06:11:08 PM »
SPOILER:

In 1897 it's established that Barnabas' secret being a vampire & chained in the secret room in the mausoleum was passed on the death bed of the head of the family to their heir. (Joshua-Daniel-son-Edith).

Barnabas meeting Edith on her death bed prevented her from telling Edward and the secret passed into history.  I was wondering a few things about this in regards to the original timeline:

I think from what we see of Edith in 1897 that she managed to last until Edward arrived and told the secret to him (As we saw, he got there only a few minutes after Barnabas and with no Barnabas there originally, Edith was still coherent at that point).

What do you think of these scenario's that may have happened?:
- Edward wrote the secret off as nonsense and never mentioned it again.
- Edward went to the mausoleum to verify what Edith said and was too scared to ever mention it ever again to anyone.
- Edward believed what Edith said and did passed it to Jamison, who obviously didn't believe it as he didn't pass it to his wife or Elizabeth

Also..after the events of 1840, is it possible that in the revised 1897, that a time travelling Barnabas greeted a 90 plus Daphne or Letiticia on her deathbed instead of Edith?

Current Talk '07 II / Barnabas in 1897

Does anyone else have a problem with Barnabas' behavior when he was in 1897?   He seemed to act as though things were to go his way regardless of how history originally went.  He makes no qualms about Rachael or Kitty into making them yet another Josette without thinking they had their own future lives to lead. This obviously goes for his callousness to Dirk and Carl (and indirectly Pansy).

To me, he totally defeated his purpose for being in 1897 to help David by being responsible for the many deaths of all the others that happen due to his own fault.  I know Vcky wasn't a smart time traveller, but at least she tried to change some things for the better, even though the outcome was the same as it originally was.  IMHO, Barnabas is an even worse time traveler then Vicky with his abruptness that things be done to his own policing (Ediths will come to mind) like he is a new sheriff in town.

Then there is the Laura matter, which he obviously didnt see the obvious, that the family was there in the present, therefore, there wasnt any need to worry about her taking her children with her by fire.

He realy didnt have to do anything other then to observe why Quentin's spirit was so vengeful. 1897 shows Barnabas much  less as a hero then as someone on an ego trip at times.  I think his character regressed a lot in this storyline.

The craziest statements he makes has to be when he accuses Angelique of changing history when she announces that she plans to marry Quentin and she accusaes him of the same.  His response was hilarious: "I have done all i can do to make sure to keep histpry the way it was" or something to that effect.

As much as 1840 is maligned, at least there he was more of an observer then a participant.

I loved it when Carolyn said that Roger becomes Dracula at midnight!

I bought:

Buzz Hacketts fan fiction "Supreme Sacrifice: A Civil War Novel", which continues the Bramwell/Catherine Storyline from Parallel Time 1841.

Dark Shadows: The Legend Reborn CD

I had basically most of the rest that was for sale, except the DVD's.  Amazon has DS: The First Year for $29.99 pre-order, so I went there for it.

That was the first time the Old House looked so new, but in photos Jonathan Frid took at the real Old House in 1795 clothes, it still looked old to me.  Maybe they doctored the photo in such a way it looks authentic.  Or they found a different house looking exactly like the Old House but newer and pink colored.

Before the Old House was "the old house" it was the original Collinwood.

After 1795, David's fear of Barnabas is also forgotten.

the episodes start to get strange here.

in the weeks that run up to the start of the 1795 storyline there are alot of "red herrings" thrown out and plot developments that end up going nowhere.

Like the opening voiceover stating that "a dangerous game is about to be played leading to someone's death"

I wonder if they still planned for Julia to be killed off at this point.

In the Robservations that are being posted now, there is an upcoming episode voiceover that clearly states a character (Julia) will soon die.

Now that Burke is back in town, Dr. Woodard should have went right to him and told him everything.
Though he should have at least gone to Sam, Joe, or the Sheriff instead of Barnabas.

He had a small role in one of the 1991 episodes as a store owner.

Charles Lane, the prolific character actor whose name was little known but whose crotchety persona and roles in hundreds of films made him instantly recognizable to generations of moviegoers, has died. He was 102.

His son, Tom Lane, said he was talking with his father at 9 p.m. Monday. "He was lying in bed with his eyes real wide open. Then he closed his eyes and stopped breathing."

Lane, whose career spanned more than 60 years, appeared in such film classics as "It's a Wonderful Life," "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town" and "Twentieth Century." He also had a recurring role as the scheming railroad man, Homer Bedloe, on the 1960s TV sitcom "Petticoat Junction" and appeared often on "I Love Lucy."
