simply showing id wont work. u need to be wearing a badge to enter the convention hall/rooms. there is a monitor looking for people wearing the badges. if u had to stop and show id, to the monitor this would cause a delay and even another line just to enter the rooms. obtaining the badge is what causes the line in the 1st place but at least after u have it and wear it u can enter the rooms without further delay.

david nahmod is the friend i mentioned before who has big issues with fan behavior and i faxed him a copy of this post and he faxed me back(he is not on line)his response that i am transcibing for u:
One major way festivals could be improved is to raise the standards of behavior + hold people accountable for what they do at festivals. since i began attending in 1983, in the SHADOWCON days, ive found the fan behavior torwards others to be overwhelmingly negative. it often seems that 90% of the fans are not on speaking terms with each other and that most of them consider this something to be proud of. ive also had people try to convince me that im supposed to hate the people they dont like. hard to believe the people acting this way are all over the age of 30.
its time to stigmatize the bad behavior at festivals. it is the hate mongers who should be stigmatized, not those they victimized. we can further improve fandom by gently, lovingly urging people to be kinder to each other, to be polite to everyone whose paths they cross and to end the grudgeholding. its time we learned that not being friends does not make us enemies. i didnt attend the 2001 fest but at the 2000 fest, the registration process was a bad way to start off the fest. pre registered fans waiting in a long line while fans paying at the door just walked right up and got their admission badge in 60 seconds! the other issue is with fan behavior. a friend who is not on line has big issues with this and has gone as far as meeting with jim pierson about this. i heard there will be some kind of CODE OF CONDUCT statement distributed at the fest.

when ds was 1st syndicated in the mid 70s and through the 80s this ep was shown in b-w kinescope format. when mpi was releasing the eps, a color version of todays 1st episode was discovered and replaced the b-w kinescope. dont know why they dont replace it in syndication today. yes sci-fi showed it in b-w last time. i questioned it then. someone replied saying they showed it in COLOR the last time around but i didnt have sci-fi on my cable then and i cant be sure.

Theres a name from the past! i was pen pals with him for several years back in the 80s! he may have seen the longer version of HODS but he didnt have any leads as to how to track down a print. i finally met him when he visited los angeles about 10 years ago. i dont know why or how but he stopped corresponding. i dont think i have his old address anymore but if i come across it i will pass it on.

i agree that the only way to go is a next generation. forget the 91 series. forget remaking the original stories. we need to see carolyn as the head of household and the son of julia and barnabas and the daughter of angelique etc. starting with quentin wont work. everyone will wonder where the vampires are.

u can thank dan curtis for preserving the show. most soaps were owned by the netwworks or procter and gamble. they seemed to think nothing of erasing over an old tape. dan curtis owned ds from the beginning and i believe he went to the trouble of saving the tapes and i guess the b-w kinescopes too. the only reason one episode is missing is because they stopped making kinescopes in 1971 so there were no kinescopes for the last few months of the show. from what i have heard, a blank reel of tape was in the case for that one episode. the frequency of the b-w kinescopes dies down around the 1795 time period. but we are very lucky to have them instead of skipping the missing episodes.

As for the DVD announcement, I am VERY pleased. The DVD format is ideal for a show with as many episodes as DS, and with 10 episodes per disc, there will be fewer DVDs to purchase. Besides, I don't know about anyone else, but my MPI tapes have not held up well. Does anyone know what causes the picture to bend at the top?

the bending at the top of the screen is called FLAGGING. its caused by the tape edge curling with age. r u viewing the tape on a newer tv? older tvs seem to show this problem more than newer tvs. i still cant play the nancy barrett segment of the s dvd even after getting a free newr model dvd player from zenith. so i wont purchase the dvds if they wont play. i too think the new ds should be a next generation show and not another remake. it worked for star trek.

I posted a message about HODS on the DVD Review site, under "Horror and Cult Films." Any responses over there might be helpful in getting HODS on DVD. (Plus, I'd like to hear any other opinions on the quality of the VHS print.)

the vhs tape seems inferior in quality to the version they show on the turner networks. the version shown on tv seems restored and color corrected.i assume this is the version they used for laser disc. cant say for sure since ive never seen it on LD. dont know why they used the inferior print for the vhs release.
