Current Talk '06 I / Re: Which actors will be attending the 06 fest

I have the best hopes for Kate Jackson, and perhaps Kathy Cody making first appearences. Kate Jackson has just started doing fan shows in the last two years, admittedly moreso because of the Charlies Angels series than us, and Kathy Cody was scheduled for last year but canceled due to illness. I think Alexandra would be great and my one great wish is that all attendees would respect her private life and stick to speaking to her on her work or at the most her son. I can understand her having been reluctant to attend, thinking someone is likely to ask something inappropriate. Nonetheless, the reception she at the Dark Shadows evening at the Director's Guild was so warm that I think she was surprised and touched. I actually was lucky enough to meet Lela Swift at that event in the lobby afterwards, and she told me she "...didn't know why she hadn't been to a DS show lately" and implied she wasn't being asked. I would think Lela would be one of the first people asked, I think she probaly worked on more single epsiodes than anyone.

PS: When in New York, I honestly recommend the Sunday Brunch at the Slaughtered Lamb Pub in Greenwich Village,
its a great small werewolf  [Wolfie] themed place with great eggs benedict. I hope its still there this summer. I have their address is anyone wants to message me

Don't get me started on obsolete technology. My daughter has a radio show that I tape off air so I can send it to her Grandmother.  This week I ran out of casette tapes.  I had to ask NINE employees of the local "Best Buy" where the packages of blank casette tapes were before I found them.  I'm pretty sure 3 of them didn't know WHAT they were, never mind WHERE they were..... ::)
Slightly off topic, but I have a few great stories on Best Buy. When I went in to buy "A Man for All Seasons" for Diane, (these situations always seem to happen when I try to buy for my wife) I asked the cleark if he could check to see if it was out on DVD yet. He asked, "The one with Burt Reynolds?" I withheld from asking if Burt played Henry the VIII or Sir Thomas More in the listing. When "It Takes a Thief" came out, they stated they had a copy but hadn't been able to find it, to which the sales person noted, "We really ought to have that one, beacuse I hear this guy Hitchcock is important and pretty popular." When I tried to pick up "It Happened One Night" as a new release, the sales guy stated "Never heard of it." I told him it won the Oscar for best picture, best actor and best actress , and he replied, "Recently?!?!" Lastly, when I went to pick up "Its a Mad Mad Mad World', again, I got, "Never heard of it" Followed by, "So who's in that one."  [5393] I guess if any of these had X Box games spun off, then they would have heard of them.

I think it would be great to have the festival in other areas of the country.

I've been told that the reason why the fests are held in NYC and LA is because most of the attending cast members live in either one city or the other, or both cities.  This cuts down on plane fare expenses and other costs for the festival.
I think you are probably, sadly right Nancy. Still, it does seem strange that they made such an effort to ask about other cities. Most especially, I'm sure it was stated by Jim at the end of one of the shows about 4 years ago that "Next year we will be in San Francisco..." That choice couldn't be too inconvenient for transporting the LA area guests, could it?
KLS asked a group of us the same question and she was surprised to get a large number of suggestions. If I recall, pretty much the most popular alternate cities suggested were New Orleans (pre Katrina), London, Washington DC and even Bangor. I think all of them would be great, as well as the aformentioned Chicago or even St. Louis for another central USA town. I have to admit I like the idea of having a DS weekend in Bangor or Boston as they were mentioned so often on the series. With the Friday "roadtrip" to Salem!  [Witch00] [_witch_]

Because of his insistence on filming long scenes in mime, Dan Curtis only allowed Federico Fellini to guest direct one episode, now withheld from syndication...   [director]

You know, few actors on DS looked as "period", ie as if they stepped out of the past as much as Virginia, so its great to see what she looked liked, more or less "contemporary." For the record, Jonathan and Louis for example always looked great in period costumes, but well, God bless him, Anthony George just didn't look all that 18th century. Thanks for these great screen grabs. I remember how my mom was hooked on Kojack.

By my count, four times for me, with some qualifications. I watched pretty much the entire run as a kid, with the exception that during the last story it was being shown at odd hours here in Virginia, rather than each afternoon, so I missed a few during 1840-1841. (Of course, over nearly 5 years, I missed it once in a while anyway). SciFi was the first time I saw EVERY single  episode. I have watched two complete run throughs on Sci-Fi, and one complete run through when Diane and I completed the entire run, both "Red" and "Blue" tapes. Since then, we just run say a disc or tape through when we feel like seeing an particular run of episodes. I have begun to buy the DVDs, but its going to take a while. The funny thing is, sometimes the VHS tapes do look better, as I get a "digital strobe" or waivery area sometimes. Someone like Darren can probably explain that. Anyway, I always felt lucky that my mom liked the series way back when, so as a kid growing up we often watched it together, or sometimes when 2-3 of us kids watched it together. Now I'm lucky to be married to a fellow fan.   [love3] (BTW, Diane's favorite is the B&W Barnabas era.)

Got votes in on both, the first time I actually went into "Suggest a Movie" and made comments on how we'd like to see NODS restored. I hope that helps too.
