I thought of that, too.  But, then I couldn't remember whose room the book had been in - was it Josette's or her aunt's?  If it was the Countess' room, then perhaps there's also a secret panel there, but she wouldn't know about it.

Luciaphil's Idle Thoughts '02 / Suggestion for Luciaphil
« on: April 05, 2002, 09:59:04 AM »
Could you add a date or some identifier to your titles?  As new comments are added to various topics, the order of the commentaries keep changing, and upon looking up a new response, it's sometimes hard to tell which episode is involved.

I agree that Barnabas told her very little.  She seems to have no idea of what she's getting into.  That's why I questioned it.  If he had just "returned from the dead" and told her the vague things he has, I could understand this reaction.

But, he DID bite her.  Surely, she must have some idea of what he is and the kind of existence he has, and that she's to "become like him" - if she is as clueless as she seems to be after that, then I think she might be even denser than Vicki!!!!

Did I misunderstand?  I though you made a comment about Millicent's black bows on the discussion board and that it was quite negative - here you said you liked it.

By the way, I particularly enjoyed your use of all the "head bangings" today!!

I certainly agree about the keeping quiet part.  I'd say as little as possible and listen and soak up as much as possible from everyone else.  I certainly wouldn't tell everyone I met that they look just like someone I know and that so-and-so is supposed to marry such-and-such person or whatever!!  Once I had a better feel for the times and what these people are like, I could try to blend in more and start talking a bit!!

I nearly blew my top at her today - I didn't remember her blurting out at the trial that "I've hurt enough people already!"  Of course, it's in the passion of the moment and she didn't think of what she was saying, but wow!!  On top of all her troubles, if that didn't sound like a confession, I don't know what would!!!!

I don't recall the Vicki example, but the Carolyn one, definitely.  I couldn't think of that before.  Thank you!

Midnite's explanation seems to be the correct one.  I checked the Schedulebot and TV Guide.  It's on the April 4 schedule, but after all of the day's programs, past midnight, and at 3:00 a.m., which would be the morning of the 5th.  At 3:00 a.m. to 6.00 a.m. today (4th) it shows Paid Programming.  But at 3:00 a.m. of the 5th, it has the movie listed, as does my TV Guide.

Hopefully this will be the same for everyone else!!

Current Talk '02 I / Barnabas' On again Off again powers
« on: April 04, 2002, 09:56:03 AM »
Barnabas' powers seem to come and go.  At the very beginning of his being a vampire, Joshua went to the mausoleum and talked to Ben, and Barnabas had to hide inside the secret room.  He suddenly came out as a bat.  He also suddenly materialized right next to Ben, so he learned of his powers quite quickly.  Yet, when Sarah saw him from the window, he hurried aside to try to keep from being seen, instead of disappearing.  So, today, when Angelique "locked" the gate, why couldn't he just dematerialize and escape?  He did it when Millicent saw him shortly afterwards, so . . . does he realize he has these powers or doesn't he?!!

Current Talk '02 I / Just what DID Josette know?
« on: April 04, 2002, 09:53:28 AM »
I've never understood what did or did not happen to Josette (I don't mean the death, I'm talking about the day or two prior).  Anyone else bitten by the vampire knows what has happened to them and becomes sort of a slave to him.  In the beginning she made sure to cover her neck, was very evasive, seemed drawn to him a bit differently than previously.  So, I figured that she realizes what he is!!

When he tries to warn her off and tells her she will be as he is, etc., she seems to understand, at least up to a point.

Yet, Ben points out that presumably she doesn't realize that there's a coffin being prepared for her and that she will have to die.  That turns out to be true.  I can understand that she doesn't fully appreciate what becoming like him would mean, but she seems to be completely oblivious to what he is.  After all, he DID bite her.  She has to have some idea!!!

Meanwhile, Barnabas had previously asked Ben to stake him.  He prefers a true death and peace to what he has become.  Yet, loving her, he can presume to do it to her?!!  He does try to warn her a bit, but surely he'd be a bit more specific.  And, even with her insistence, if he really loved her, presumably he wouldn't do it.

The explanation makes sense, MB, except . . . .

The first time I encountered it yesterday, I DID click on it, assuming there must be something new.  So, the "new" should have disappeared.  I was surprised all last night when it was constantly there.  And when it was still there today, I was even more puzzled!!

I'm going to click on it again now to see what happens.!

;D

On the Lighter Side Board of the Dominion SciFi Boards, Kosmo has a very funny story about Vicki on a sort of Dating Game show - only this one is Data Game and involves various robots.  I can't really describe it, but I'm sure many here would enjoy it.

The board is:

And the specific story is:

The "stuck" topic at the top of the regular board, "OT:  A message for unregistered members" - which hasn't had a new post since March 18 - has a "New" indicator the last two days.  There is clearly nothing new there, but it always says it is.  No big deal, but I was wondering about it!!

Current Talk '02 I / Re: The Very Detailed Family History Book
« on: April 03, 2002, 06:55:09 AM »
I was wondering, too, where all of those details suddenly came from.  It certainly wasn't in the book - Josette and the Countess read the book.  It didn't even telll that she jumped from Widow's Hill - ony that she died by her own hand.

Vicki does refer to legends, though.  The Countess asks what she's learned of those legends.  So, presumably a lot of the Josette story had been handed down through the years without being written down, and Vicki, with her interest in the subject, obviously learned them, even though we never knew about it.
