Heavens to murgatroyd!  In that first "gasp" (grey suit, in color), dear Julia appears to be having a very "personal" moment there in the drawing room.  Makes you wonder just what she's got below frame there...

How fascinating!  Another illustrious cameo performer on DS.

Thanks for the info, Midnite!

Current Talk '06 I / Episode 443 question

Do we have any idea who the actress is in the shot of Millicent with Josette's fan in today's slideshow?  From the costume it looks as if the character is meant to be a maid.

I think I have only ever seen that episode once, although I do have it on videotape.  Time to watch it again.

I know it's absurdly predictable of me, but I love the shot of the Countess with Bradford.  Love to see Herself looking so regal!

I'm in Heaven over the first two images from the Leviathan storyline today featuring Grayson Hall, first in Julia-goes-off-the-cliff mode, then in Julia-the-sly-artful-minx mode.  Heaven!

To me, Grayson Hall's acting is like Audrey Hepburn's "Breakfast at Tiffany's" Givenchy dresses.  With such perfection, who needs anything else??

Hey, as a suburban Maryland brat (anyone remember "Land of Pleasant Living"?) I remember Count Gore de Vol well.  He kind of set my teeth on edge at the time, actually, because I took the films so seriously.  Now, of course, the lustre of time has casts its graceful patina over the garish lineaments of his figure, which gleams in memory with a certain nostalgic witchery.  I'm still not sure I can forgive him all those rubber chicken gags, though.

The one I actually enjoyed was Sir Graves Ghastly.  I think I watched his show on Channel 48 out of Philadelphia.  His over-the-top persona amused me.  He has a website as do several of the horror hosts who are still living.

Just to make this somewhat relevant to DS, I'll never forget the thrill when Channel 20 ran a commercial for Dark Shadows in '76, the year it hit our local syndication markets.  They ran a spot that was basically a clip from the scene in 1795 when
Barnabas attacked Millicent who had been lured to the Tower room by the nefarious Forbes.
I still smile when I remember that clip and my friend Marc deadpanning to my Dad who happened to be in the room, "Well, when you're thirsty and you HAVE to have a drink, and there's no water fountain around..."

LOL!

Very pleased to hear about the new site!  I will be happy to offer my services if you want to have a couple of suggested templates for letters from members of the interested public to the revelant suits, available for download and copying on your site.

I love Barbara Steele's early Italian horror films.  There are still quite a few I have never seen.  I'm not sure I have the film you mention.  I do have one that has Edgar Allan Poe as a character in it. Steele has a short but effective part in that one.

I keep meaning to get Caged Heat, which I think dates to 1974 and is available at the rental place down the street from where I work.  I heard Steele had a great part in that.

Hi Patti, during that period, Miss Scott was off in Africa with future husband and business partner Ben on safari.  *cue soft music, voiceover: "I had a fahm in Afrwica..."

As for Joan Bennett, she took time off in 1969 to finish writing the book about her family, The Bennett Playbill, and I believe she did some theatre in ... Chicago, maybe? around that time.

I thought it was very interesting that they showed that Petofi was not as in control of his magical powers--or perhaps it was "the Will of the Hand" that was at issue--as he pretended.

Grayson as Magda just takes my breath away.  So many wonderful moments.

DAMN and BLAST.

Darren here's my hope that the WB suits decide to issue the restored version of NoDS on a separate disc.  I'm sure there are extras for hoDS that could easily fill an entire DVD.  If nothing else, I'd love a commentary with Dan Curtis and Sam Hall.  It seems doubtful whether either of those gentlemen is going to be appearing at a festival, and would be very interesting to hear their reflections... and, of course, to see your restoration of the deleted scenes!

I'm lighting a candle in the wish it WILL happen.  To quote Dr. Julia Hoffman... it MUST.

Very groovy!  My first thought upon seeing the photo is "they're all singing the Monster Mash!"

Gads, that Garou is such a hot Wolf, too!

Cheers and congrats!

Bruno's ranch poodle coat!  I want to forget, but I CAN'T.  It's like a scar over the carapace of memory.

I think the moment when Stroka enters with a line something like "Ya don't need to worry now--you've got BRUNO!" has to rank as some sort of pinnacle on DS.  Only to be surpassed by Hallie Stokes greeting to Barnabas and Julia "HUUUUU ARE YUUUUUU!"

The last year of the series was certainly memorable on a variety of levels.

I think in terms of acting, despite all the flubs JF's performance in the original 1967 storyline was tops.  His nervousness actually feeds into the characterization in a way that's quite brilliant.  Some of his scenes in that story are sooo creepy.  I honestly can hardly bear to watch some of the stuff when he's holding Maggie prisoner in the OH because it is so very unpleasant.  Even though practically nothing is shown, it is still some of the most horrifying material ever aired on a dramatic television series.

I can't really pin it down to a specific storyline after that, but generally, when it was an on day for him, there were fabulous moments throughout the four years.  Some of those Magda scenes were so spicy, and I love how sardonic he got with Julia during Leviathan when they were on the outs.  He was great opposite Angelique's various incarnations, as well.  I love the back-and-forth with Cassandra...
