Current Talk '08 II / Re: Anyone on this show who did NOT have a secret?
« on: October 14, 2008, 05:13:41 PM »
Joe Haskell never had a secret about himself to hide.  Neither did Dr. Woodard, 1796 Daniel, Millicent, Ned Stuart, Rachael Drummond, Edward Collins, Riggs, Sheriff Patterson, Sarah Collins, Frank Garner, Nora Collins, PT Amy & Daniel, Prof. Stokes.

Current Talk '08 II / Barnabas & Jason
« on: October 13, 2008, 06:12:07 PM »
I saw the scene where Jason meets Barnabas for the first time and when he introduces himself, Barnabas looks like he doesn't want to speak to him.  I was wondering if Barnabas knew all about the Liz/Jason connection from Willie (who would have told him why he was living at Collinwood as well as those living there).

Although it was stated that Peter Bradford took over the body of a man named "Jeff Clark"...
Could the body have actually been that of Ned Stuart?
Current Talk '08 II / 1967 Laura Story
« on: October 11, 2008, 05:42:56 PM »
I have finished watching Collector's Series 5 and have been enjoying the Laura story more this time then the first time I saw it on the Sci Fi Channel.  Others have commented that it was actually DS at it's very best and while I don't entirely agree with that, this is actually a unique time in DS:

- The focus is on characters independent of the rest of the series who aren't referred to much afterwards.
- Carolyn is the mistress of the house, changing the dynamic of the setting
- The writers are using every character (except Maggie, who it's odd to see just on the sidelines this time) organically in the plot.
- All the characters are aware something is wrong and know/suspect that one character is the center of it.
- There is a "team-up" feel to the story as everyone wants to get the bad guy.
- A live outdoor scene showing a cactus!
- The only morgue scene on the show

Roger was also away during the entire Gerard haunting too.  Perhaps he senses something is in the air and decides to skip town till its over.

Has there ever been an interview with John Lasell (Dr. Guthrie)?  He played a significant part in the 1967 Laura story and it's too bad his role was forgotten for so many years because he appeared only in pre-Barnabas episodes.

I see by the Internet Movie Database he is still alive (at 80) and has made many television appearances.

Cavada Humphrey would also have made an excellent Magda or another gypsy woman.

In the original timeline, perhaps Edward didn't believe what Edith told him and never mentioned it to Jamison or Jamison didn't believe Edward.

In a 1966 episode, Liz told David her father died over twenty years before (in the 1940's).
Her mother was alive when she married Paul (as she mentioned to Vicky about the heirloom).

Roger did mention to Burke and Dr. Woodard that as a boy he was scared of the Collins legends but outgrew them.
At this point I doubt the writers even thought of Trask being tied into the Quentin storyline.

Ignoring the writer's mistake of people remembering the ghost of Quentin during Leviathan (IMHO, it was the Leviathan's MAKING them remember so they could not trust Quentin as he wasn't under their influence)...in the altered 1968, did David & Amy even get to that anteroom?  There wouldnt have been any ghost to talk to her via the telephone. Though by the summer of 1970, Quentin is living there so obviously the skeleton had been discovered when Barnabas & Julia were in Parallel Time.  I could imagine the look on Quentin's face when he saw the skeleton and finally confirmed what he suspected his sister Judith had done!  This was a scene they really should have shown!
Current Talk '08 II / Elizabeth & Rogers Mother
« on: October 05, 2008, 02:12:28 PM »
There has never been a lot discussed about Jamison's wife.  The writers named almost all the Collins generations after the 1795 era but never Liz and Rogers own mother.  She was mentioned twice by Elizabeth- when she shows Vicky an heirloom her mother gave her prior to marrying Paul and when she finds a letter her mother wrote to Jamison giving her time of birth.

Probably because she lived at Collinwood during "quiet supernatural" years there isn't much to write about in that regard but has anyone thought of who she was?  Probably an outsider to Collinsport or a war bride of Jamisons?

She apparently died after Liz married Paul and obviously before 1966.

It would have been nice to see the caretaker again, but it wouldn't have been the original one as DC fired him during the writers strike.

I am surprised they never looked for Beth's grave, no mention was ever made of it at all.

1897 is unique in that everything mentioned prior to it in the present actually did happen (going all the way to the very last episode of 1897!)
Could Quentin's ghost have actually been created by Petofi via Charles Tate to lure Barnabas into the past? That would explain people remembering Quentin's haunting in the present after his death was prevented.
Was this to have happened instead of Barnabas & Kitty going back to 1796?

I had heard that DC's plan during the Leviathan story was to bring Vicki back by having Barnabas go back in time and save her again, a replay of 1796. But negotiations with AM fell thru and that plot was abandoned.

Current Talk '08 II / Moving Barnabas' coffin around in 1897
« on: September 17, 2008, 05:00:06 PM »
At the beginning of 1897, an episode has Barnabas moving his coffin from the secret room of the mausoleum to the basement of the Old House.

A couple of weeks later it is returned to the Secret Room, as if the writer felt it should be there as it originally was, and for Barnabas to leave 1897.

A few episodes after that the coffin is moved back into the Old House.

I was wondering who wrote these episodes, one writer seems to have been determined to not have the coffin in the Secret Room for some reason.  They could have just not had any more scenes in there for the remainder of 1897.
