Thank you!

I've decided that "Spirits" definitely refers to the two of you.  When I checked in, there were just a couple of us and 1 spirit and you had just made a post.  I noticed that 1 spirit and I were the only ones left and then noticed that it was "fixed," - so that apparently solves that mystery!  Except, it means that we don't know which of you is "with us" unless 2 happen to be present!!

Sometimes I'll write something in WordPerfect and then paste it here.  If I have the "curly" quotes and apostrophes on, when it's posted here it's filled with a bunch of numbers and symbols instead of those marks.  That just happened.  I immediately edited the post and fixed all of those marks, but then I discovered that the quotes around "parents" in the title were also transformed, and apparently I can't edit the title!

So, Midnite or MB, if you're able to edit other people's titles, I'd appreciate it if you could fix that!! :)

Current Talk '02 I / Barnabas and Julia as "parents" and teachers
« on: May 24, 2002, 09:55:21 AM »
It always irritates me the way they seem to spend almost no time with Adam, then leave him to Willie and expect him to do what's right!  When Barnabas spent a couple of minutes with him, giving him food and then left, he said, "I'll be back tomorrow,  my first reaction was, what else does he have to do?  One would certainly expect them to spend most of their time with him, working with him.  And, again, what else do they have to do?  (Julia never seems to go to Windcliff.)

However, apparently they ARE doing more teaching than we realize and we're just not seeing it.  Barnabas asked how he learned about using a spoon and, later, the napkin and whether Julia had taught him.  Barnabas told Julia that he had spent the day with him and then left to get him food.  So, perhaps it wasn't just those couple of minutes.  When Adam said, "music," again my initial reaction was to wonder how he had learned that word.  Then Julia said something about him remembering her teaching it to him.  So, perhaps they aren't as bad as we think.

(I'm not saying they're good, but not as bad as it would initially appear!)

I was also surprised at Barnabas preparing to return to Collinwood as Julia was treating Adam's shoulder.  They know how he can react, especially to pain.  She's treating a bullet wound.  One could reasonably expect that she could happen to hurt him and immediately be subjected to an attack.  But, as soon as he seems to be calmed down, Barnabas is ready to leave her alone with him!

There was a strong suggestion in one episode that Cyrus - as John Yeager - had raped Buffie.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Wishing you all the best!!

The treatment of Adam always amazes me.  It would seem that just a little bit of common sense should indicate to anyone that he's like a newborn, knows nothing, yet has this enormous size and strength.  Clearly they have to treat him carefully, gently, etc.  Julia says all the right things to Willie about how they have to gain his trust, since they've previously hurt him, and then they can start to teach  him.  But no one tries to actually put that into practice!  They shut him up and force Willie to be with him while they go off and do who knows what!

I did find it rather funny, though, when Julia apologized to Barnabas that it was necessary to put him in restraints.  It was Barnabas who wanted to kill him and Julia who prevented it!!

I'm not familiar with the original Goethe, but in Gounod's opera "Faust" there is a scene where Mephistopheles has provided a basket of jewels for Faust to leave for Marguerite.  She finds them and has a marvelous "Jewel Song" as she tries them on and admires herself.  Every time I see Maggie with the earrings, I think of that!

Julia with Mrs. Johnson is rather unbelievable, too.  She knew the full implications of the Dream Curse and had the additional motivation of wanting to protect Barnabas from it's ultimate conclusion.  Yet she couldn't stop herself from telling Mrs. Johnson.  Then, she can rather calmly tell Mrs. Johnson - You mustn't tell David!!  She, of all people, should appreciate what Mrs. Johnson is going through!!!!

When Willie was first forced to stay with Adam, my initial thought was, "I bet he'd rather be back at Windcliff!"  I had forgotten that he later actually said it!  My goodness!!  For Julia to say that if he went back, it would have to be forever!!!!

Current Talk '02 I / Re: Whose Hair...?
« on: May 23, 2002, 09:22:01 AM »
I don't know if I'd want it for myself, but I always love Nancy Barrett's hair.  Even when she just has it straight, as she sometimes does as Carolyn, it just seems so shiny and silky and glowing!  Then it's in all sorts of interesting styles as she plays the various characters, and most of them are wonderful.  There have been lots of scenes where I've just loved looking at it.

Well, my initial guess was that Midnite and MB would be the "Spirits" - but since MB indicated that someone else left a clue in a post, I'm totally stumped!!

Current Talk '02 I / Re: FAVORITE SCENE????
« on: May 20, 2002, 09:50:33 AM »
SPOILERS FOR LEVIATHAN STORY

I'm not sure if any of these are actually my favorite scene; a lot of the ones already mentioned might be better.

But there's an episode in Leviathan with 3 blockbuster scenes right after another.  Barnabas shows up to warn Angelique that her husband is with the Leviathans.  She won't believe him.  Then, her husband is expecting an important visitor, who enters and turns out to be Nicholas.  There's quite a scene with lots of things said with "double meanings" - and then Angelique and Nicholas get their showdown together.  That leads to some excitement between the husband and wife.  Really an incredible sequence.

The last time around I missed taping it.  I couldn't recall exactly how it all went down and I knew they were such fantastic scenes, so I went and rented that volume again to make sure not to miss it.

Midnite, that's wonderful!! ;D ;D ;D

I would have to guess that it was this thread that led to the new designation of "Cousins from England"!

I was wondering, though, when I first entered, it listed 3 Guests, 6 Cousins from England, and under that it listed 1 Spirit.  What on earth is that?!!

Current Talk '02 I / Julia Learning about Dream Curse
« on: May 18, 2002, 09:30:50 AM »
How did Julia learn about the dreams?  Jeff told Lang that Maggie had had it, but that his went a step further.  Then Lang experienced the 3rd step.  I was expecting him to mention all of that to Julia, but he didn't.  He just described the dream, as though it were an isolated dream.  It was only when Julia told Barnabas about a dream curse that he said that Angelique had told him that in the dream.

I remembered that she knew about the curse and that it was important not to tell Mrs. Johnson, and how hard she tries not to do it.  But, how was she aware of this string of dreamers, etc. at the beginning of today's episode?

I couldn't imagine what the distorted room was.  Then it turned out that it was Julia arriving at Stokes' house and it was being shown through the mirror.  I was quite impressed with it.  Then came the various mirror shots in Lang's lab.  They really got quite artsy in these episodes!!
