Well, I certainly remember hearing of it at the time.  I wasn't familiar with the people involved, so it was just a horrible news story, but I don't think it had much impact on me.  Obviously, there's been so much about it over the years that by now I really don't remember how much I knew or followed it at the time and how much I recall from all of the subsequent attention.

I assumed that they had previously switched the tape, anticipating that others might be interested in it.

That whole sequence always drove me crazy!! David goes to the Old House first. Not only is Julia not there, but Willie has to get all freaky when he mentions Adam and shoo him out of there. He even mentions that it's on the tape, but I don't think Willie heard that. One would think that that would set up an alarm in him and he'd realize to contact Julia about it.

Then, David tries to tell Cassandra, of all people, she tries to brush him off. She almost didn't learn of it. David has to go and ask about Barnabas' affliction!!

Then he DOES finally get to Julia, but only too late. I can't understand that he's forgotten so much. Even if he doesn't remember how it goes, surely he'd at least remember the phrase Barnabas' affliction!!

By the way, I love that outfit Cassandra has been wearing (and I loved the black robe one before this).

So, Nicholas is starting to move in on Maggie!

I would suggest Julia use her medallion to cause the next dreamer of the curse to forget what ever the dreamer tells them, this way the dreamer is rid of the dream and the curse is cut off at the pass...

As someone else mentioned above, Julia tried that with Willie.  She hypnotized him and assumed it would work, but he awoke exactly as he was before.  The spell of the dream was just too strong for that.

I think the same thing would apply to the earplugs suggestion.  Telling the dream to anyone but the beckoner did not ease the person's anxiety.  I suspect that if the person was unable to hear and comprehend, that it would be the same as telling someone else and one would still have to tell it again.

I hadn't specifically recalled it ahead of time, but seeing it again, it's definitely one of the show's best moments.  And Vicki's follow-up, too!

Oh, goody!  It's back!! :)

Nothing really to comment on these, just enjoy reading it again.

I'm curious about your comment on the cuts.  I'm assuming you have the tapes (or an extremely good memory!).  Could you give some examples of what has been cut?

I thought I had already taped over it, but discovered I still have it, so I checked out the exact lines.  After her initial statement and Cassandra's "How dare you," --

V:  You won't have to listen to me for much longer.  But, it's not going to work.

C: I don't know what you're talking about.

V: Oh, yes you do.  Your dream is gong to end with me, Cassandra.  I've had it and I'm frightened, but I'll never tell it to Barnabas.  No matter how many times I have it or how frightened I become.  I'll die before I tell him.

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / The Archive
« on: June 24, 2002, 06:46:05 AM »
I assume it's missing because MB is doing some work on it to prepare it for the full introduction.  But, I found it amusing that in the several days since being notified of it, I hadn't had the chance to explore it.  Before dinner tonight, instead of doing something else, I decided, "oh, why don't I finally check out the Archive."  Apparently I did it just in time, as I returned here tonight to find it gone!!

Welcome, jthomas_123!! :)  You'll see that lots of people have someone in particular whom they really "harp" on.  And, you'll find you've got company in your particular choice and have probably already noticed Ringo!!

Well, I know I don't have the time for it, so I'll just have to hope that the idea appeals to someone!!

No, there was more than that.  After Cassandra's "How dare you," Vicki stood right in front of her and stated that she wouldn't tell Barnabas the dream.  Yes, she was frightened, but the plan wouldn't work.  She won't tell it to him.  I think she said that the dream would end with her or something like that.  Barnabas had already told her that Vicki would react this way, and she emphatically gave this speech and then walked out through the door that leads to the back of the house.

I've been wondering if we could have an "Off Topic" section.  This is such a nice friendly group - there could be times one would want to mention things or perhaps ask for suggestions about something, etc. that have nothing to do with DS.  While there's an occasional OT post on the main board, one wouldn't want to do too much of that.  At the WordPerfect forum I follow, they've set up a "Chit Chat" section where one can bring up anything.

Welcome back!!  But you certainly aroused my curiosity about the "darkest place on earth"!
