Hi Sunny! She's on both DS boards I'm on.

I'd define a remake as what they did in 1991; retelling the same story. A third time for that? I thought it was a self-indulgence and waste of a massive opportunity to do that in 1991.

A sequel series would be incredible, done right. The events of the original DS could be the fascinating backstory that many great shows have. It could be written so that you didn't need to know all about 1960s Collinwood to understand the present day stories, but if you do, there's a whole extra level to it.

Hi, Magnus!!  :) 8)

I think a sequel thought out well and done right would be great. They have already attempted two remakes now of the same story, but IMHO nothing can top the original.

Now if they did a sequel, they could incorporate some of the past history in to the new show, but keep it fresh and interesting with familiar characters such as David and Amy when they're grown or something.

It could be called Dark Shadows the Next Generation.  :D ;D

I had to think about this question before I posted, simply for the fact I couldn't make up my mind right away about the changes in Maggie, because there were definitely changes, but they happened quite gradually IMO.

It wasn't as though she became the childrens' governess then just as quickly snapped in to the "helpless" mode".

She had a steeliness to her that Vicki never possessed, a no nonsense attitude, which helped her to put up a good fight with Quentin's ghost when he wanted David.

she could also be kind and gentle with the children.

As we see her after the 1897 story line, her character transforms somewhat, but not entirely, in to a carbon copy of Vicki, although there is still that small spark of fire in her when she deceives Jeb.

When she takes the most drastic change IMHO, is when she is the victim of Roxanne Drew, and I don't think they gave her character a good sendoff by taking her to Windcliff.

Did she change? No doubt.

Do I miss the strong, slightly rebellious Maggie? Most definitely!

I wish they would have allowed her to remain her own character instead of trying to make her in to another Vicki. I liked her much much better as Maggie the working class waitress, friend of Vicki, and fiance to Joe. What a pity that all ended.

I'd venture a guess that by-and-large those of us who don't like the re-makes are the ones who watched and remember Dark Shadows's original run. Those who are more favorable to a re-make are more likely younger. Anyone want to do a scientific survey?

Actually, I first watched Dark Shadows when it aired on the Sci-fi channel, and I'm not too thrilled about a remake.  :)

Boy, I am really torn between wanting a remake, and wanting to keep the original in my mind that represents DS to me. I was introduced to Dark Shadows when it aired on the Sci-fi channel and instantly loved it!

I've never seen the 91 series, or the 2004 pilot, so I can't give an opinion on them.

I was always afraid to watch these new approaches, thinking it might forever change my viewing pleasure of the original show.

I'm used to characters of the original series behaving in a certain manner. What if they turned some characters in to something completely different?

I'm not sure I could get used to that idea.

I'm all for anything that will keep DS alive and going, but am rather reluctant to encourage a remake in the fear that it would completely transform the show in to something so alien that it might not be enjoyable. My way of thinking is, if it's not broke, don't fix it.

I know the original DS could have been improved, and I'm not saying a remake, if well done and thought out wouldn't be good, I suppose I'm just rather fond of the original. :)

I'm not really explaining this clearly so I'd better just leave it at that. LOL!  ;D

Now I need to jump on eBay and see what fun DS goodies I can find! LOL!  ;D

I'm sorry, but I just can't see Johnny Depp playing Barnabas. Just my opinion though.
