I think most audiences are intelligent, and understand that TV remakes are usually never as good as the original.
They may not be fans of Dark Shadows, but chances are they've seen a remake of a TV show they once liked and know that the film version is much different, and rarely captures the charm of the original.

For example, take the Land of the Lost remake. It was all stupid, gross, fart jokes. The special effects were awesome though, but they missed the heart and soul of the TV show which was the family relationships.
The Bewitched movie sucked, too. went in a very different direction, and was contrived.
Fans who grew up watching 21 Jump Street, know that the show wasn't a comedy.
I guess what I'm saying is I think everybody has once been screwed by a movie remake of their favorite show, not just us DS fans.

I hope the DS movie is good and will be successful, but if it sucks, I hope it goes straight to the used DVD dollar bins.

Here's the background image from the website.
Maybe you can use it as wallpaper.

This has been a really exciting day for DS fans!
Thanks everyone for posting the news.
Special shout out to MB for the Body of Proof tip.
I read your post as the show was on the air, so I rushed over and turned on my VCR to record it.
It sounds like they are going to show the full trailer during Once Upon a Time on ABC Sunday.

My favorite complete set is the Land of the Lost series that comes in a tin reproduction of the original lunchbox! So cool! Too bad they never made a DS lunchbox.

I was thinking cheap plywood, but, Yeah, you're probably right.
Mpi would probably publicize it as a sturdy wood coffin if it was indeed made of wood.
There are a few exceptions, though.
I have the Land of the Giants boxed set, and it comes in a wooden crate.
The Prisoner: Cell Block H set came in a metal case.

I think it looks classier than the earlier pics.
I wonder if it is made of wood or cardboard?
I like how the lid is hinged, and opens like a door. Not a pop off lid.
Would be nice if the inside of the lid was lined with red velvet, but doesn't look like it is.

I think they changed the street date from April 10 to May 8.
According to a post at htf, the new Street date is May 8, 2012.

"Bargain With The Devil" by Franco Micalizzi
It is the main theme of CHI SEI? aka BEYOND THE DOOR.
This European movie is a cross of The Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby
The song is about a man who sells his soul to the devil to be with a woman.

I would love it if someone could make a Dark Shadows music video of it.

The photo of the staircase (foyer?) looks very lavish, but it is real?  It looks a little fake to me -- like CGI.  Does anyone agree?

You are not alone. That was my first thought exactly!

Current Talk '12 I / Question about Teasers
« on: February 27, 2012, 02:57:33 AM »
At the end of each episode there would be a cliffhanger.
The next day, they would usually repeat the ending at the beginning of the show as a teaser before the credits.
Were these "teasers" newly filmed a second time-- or were they merely reruns (i.e. footage taken from the previous episode)??.

Old cases are going out of print--new cases are coming in April.
MPI hasn't made an official announcement that the series is being re-packaged in new slimmer cases, but the new volumes are already up for preorder at places like Amazon, walmart, etc. They are going to be released in April. Right now, MPI is clearing out the old stock and marking prices down. No pictures of the new sets yet.
Hope that answers your question.

Yes, it would be nice if the Watching Project had their own area because I noticed the posts/episodes are not in order. For example, after I read the post for episode 981, I had to search for episode 982. I think it was on another page. I guess when someone replies to a post, it gets moved to the top?

I chose PT because I've only seen that storyline once about 10 years ago and I don't remember many details, but I've seen the first four years at least twice.
I started watching DS in the early 1980s when it was syndicated.
They started with the introduction of Barnabas and ended with the Leviathan storyline.
Then in the 1990s, the show started coming out on home video. My local video store carried most of the episodes, so I started watching it all over again with the beginning of Barnabas.
I think I finally watched PT in early 2000.
I never got the Sci-fi channel. I had a friend record the last episodes for me. I think it was 1840 with Bramwell and Catherine.
Then, when the show came out on DVD, i started watching the introduction of Barnabas again.

I think it would be fun to watch the same storyline with a group of people at the same time and discuss about it. I see members are currently watching the Laura storyline. I love that storyline, but I watched it not too long ago, and I don't feel like watching it again so soon, same with intro of Barnabas.

Thanks for the link to the discussions of PT episodes. I read a few so far, and it's cool to see that some people have noticed the same things I have. i don't know if I'll post there because it's from 2010 and I doubt anyone visits those pages much anymore. I'm glad you pointed them out to me, though. I had did a search for episode Discuss 981, but nothing showed up.

So I noticed this on Amazon the other day ... all the sets are being "released on April 3, 2012" ... no images, but all are $39.98 and say they star Jonathan Frid and Grayson Hall.

Amazon has dropped the price on these to $26.99, but walmart has them up for pre-order, too. Lowest price I've seen for these new sets: $24.96 (38% off list price)
I'm pretty sure it will be the exact same content and number of discs as the former sets, just slimmer cases and new artwork.

They're not showing the new artwork, but they do give the specifications:
Product in Inches (L x W x H): 5.5 x 0.5 x 7.44
So according to them, it will be 1/2" thick.

They also give a description of the product and the special features.

Sounds the same as the previous release.
