Hmmmm.........must be having a memory glitch here.

I seem to recall that the seance that sent Vicky to the past was held to contact Sarah 'cause there was concern (well founded) about David and his fear (also well founded) of Barnabus.

Yesterday.....David ran into his arms.   ?!? No Sarah - no fear.....did I miss something here?  Or is this another DS time sort of thing?    ;)

Funny thing.....I was about 10 when DS was aired and was a faithful watcher.  I remember all of 1795, but can only vaguely remember the Adam storyline.  Maybe it's that psychological thing that happens when you experience something painful!!!  'Cause this storyline sure is painful!!  ;D

I think it may be that David now realizes that there are worse things than being stalked by your cousin. Maybe he figures he can win Barnabas over by seeking his "protection", and thus have one less enemy to deal with.

You have to remember that parenting was an entirely different affair in the 18th century!

Perhaps a lot of people have never been to a live stage play. It is quite a different experience than watching a movie or TV show and in many ways much more enjoyable. That's what watching DS is like - it's like watching a play. Yes, there are flubbed lines, but most of these are forgiveable. In real life people stumble over their own words, they don't deliver perfectly rehearsed dialogues, so in some ways it seems even more "real" because of the flubs.

I also agree wholeheartedly with Elizabeth about the actors - the criteria for today's daytime TV is all about looks. All the performers are models, not actors. I don't know about the rest of you but I really can't relate to an entire town filled with models. DS used real ACTORS - people who looked like real people.

Very well said. I have always believed that a great part of the magic of Dark Shadows is the fact that it is performed by stage actors live on tape. What other show could ever boast that?

Oh, no way. Roger is definitely one of my favorites. I can't think of a single scene with Roger where I was ever bored. Even when the story line is weak or the material isn't up to snuff, Louis Edmonds somehow manages to pull off something entertaining, even if it's just a gesture, facial expression or reaction.

I agree with you,  Chris_2.  As Lara Parker once put it so well, Louis Edmonds' "thrilling hauteur".

I always suspected that Carolyn and "Buzz" were "doing it", but they never actually say...

I wanted a Nehru jacket so bad back then I could just taste it.  However, my parents would not allow the "latest fashions", considering them to be "beatnik clothes" (later, they said "hippie clothes", when "hippie" was no longer in vogue; they were always kinda behind the times).  I couldn't get my first pair of wire-rim glasses until I was a junior in high school, in 1973.  That same year, I combed the part out of my hair.  You woulda thought the world had ended.

I can definitely relate. The only way we could listen to the Beatles was with our teenaged cousins who bought their albums.  The "Rubber Soul" album was definitely considered "hippie music" in our house.

Current Talk '02 I / Re: Julia in the Dream Curse
« on: May 19, 2002, 06:42:13 AM »
In another thread I commented that the dream curse has a relative scaryness depending on the dreamer. When Maggie had the dream, the skull behind the first door was a terrifying spectre, but when Julia opens the same door it's like, "Oh, someone left their skull in the closet."

The  thing that struck me about the dream curse today was the relative scariness of what was behind the doors depending on who had the dream.  When Maggie has the dream, the skull behind the door was this terrifying spectre, but when Julia opens the same door, it's like, "Oh, someone left their skull in the closet". I guessing that when the next person has the dream the skeleton bride won't elicit the same reaction it got from Julial (which was classic). Anyone else find this somewhat incongruous?

don't you just LOVE the body being left around at room temperature for DAYS! If I remember right the hand Jeff brought in was on ice. But not the packaged body, no siree bob!

And the whole, piece a body together theme makes me crazy anyway. I know that is the way Shelley wrote it, but didn't anyone ever say, "Hey, why not just use a whole body and save yourself a lot of time?!"  ::) ?!? :P

I couldn't agree with you more!

I thought Julia's screams were the best part of today's episodes. Talk about suspension of belief! This whole Mary Shelley story line is way too much for me to buy. By the way, todays montage is great!

I'll take the crystal chandelier from the old house. You never know when you might need to hypnotize someone.  ;D

I echo the sentiment, despite my mother telling me not to watch Dark Shadows!
