The first Josette theme (heard on "The Prisioner") is a stock track composed by Robert Farnham -- canned music was available to productions on common compilation records.

Presumably Cobert wasn't available to compose a melody for the box at the time -- it was required about the same time he was working on Dan Curtis' "Jekyll and Hyde" TV minseries -- so the production team turned to existing stock tracks.

They're planning to do quarterly releases for the time being, so depending on how the dates fall, that's 4-5 releases a year -- (160-200 episodes)

I imagine that, depending on sales, they will step up to a bi-monthly schedule at some point.

Should be fun this year -- the west coast events are usually a little less packed, so you can have all the Fest fun without the mosh pit interludes  ;)

Cool -- BTW, the Grayson pic is from my website homepage -- by conicidence it's ideal avatar size  :) There's a few other ones on the same page of different characters in the same format -- anyone on here's more than welcome to use them.

Just a little news about my website, the "Dark Shadows Journal [barely] Online" -- at http://www.darkshadows.co.uk -- which some of you know has... ahem... had erratic availabilty and updates thanks to my service providers.

I'm pleased I'm pleased to announce that a new provider has finally been found I've begun transferring the files, which should be completed in about a week.  The site will continue to be accessed from it's existing URL, but with the benefits of more bandwidth, allowing more multimedia and features, along with a number of planned improvements.  Your patience is appreciated while this work is completed.

Cheers

It's not meant to be a photo -- you're meant to think it's a painting...

I actually have a couple of shots from that photo session that I'll be using for an upcoming project -- they only exist because Sharon Smyth kept the negative all these years, which had been left discarded and scratched on the studio floor.

Any chance of getting a selection of DS avatars specifically for the board?  Maybe just the main characters, etc? [/obvious]  ;)

Brian, all the new DVD range will be pressed from newly remastered source materials, rather than the existing home video masters.

Don't take this as gospel, but I'm pretty sure this release is going to incorporate some of the material from the abandoned "Sciography" documentary, and there's some new original series outtakes that have recently come to light, so they may feature too.

Apparently Jim Pierson's been telling Worldvision to update that master to the colour version for an age, but to no avail. Pity, as 1795 is where the introduction of colour finally begins to embellish the show's style rather than detracting from it.

It was a new script written by Dan Curtis and an unnamed collaborator. Pity, but not particularly surprising

I've commented on the next generation angle before and I don't think any of the arguments for it have won me over in the meantime. To the casual audience, "Dark Shadows" equals "that soap with the vampire", it if you are going to revive the series, then that's the notoriety the producers and network will be buying into.

The important thing to remember is that any new series is not being made for the fans -- it's being made to find a new viewership, not to appease a hard-core minority of viewers. The only advice I would give a new producer is to be less reverent to the original than 1991 was -- you don't need a cast as big as 1991 did, it's no longer sustaining two hours of drama a week, 52 weeks a year...

On the same note, the writers didn't always make the best decisions first time around and had they had the luxury of forward planning, wouldn't have always taken the routes they did. All that is needed is the silhoette of the original show and its stories. Let a new team play about with it, nothing's sacred. A remake that is confident enough to make changes where improvements can be made with the benefit of a more streamlined cast is the way I think it should be approached.

I haven't actually had time to add the info to the site yet, but here's the goss from the online update I sent yesterday:

"Amazon.com are now taking pre-orders for DARK SHADOWS MEMORIES, the delayed 35th Anniversary documentary about "Dark Shadows". Promising series highlights, rare and unseen footage and interviews with cast and production alumni, it is now due for simultaneous release on VHS and DVD formats on February 26."

I'll go out on a limb here and say that I think the less lip service any DS revival pays to the original series, the better. It's simply too late to do a "Next Generation" type show -- the majority of the senior cast are dead and frankly most of the survivors would need to have their characters drastically overhauled to work as older people.

If an opportunity to cast an old face comes up, and they are the best possible choice for the role, then fine, but otherwise, I'd say that "nostalgia" casting is a big mistake. A new series will have to succeed on its own merits and find its own audience -- in the broader context, that is what will ensure its success, not pandering to a tiny minority of viewers who would probably watch it regardless.

Cheers
