Have to go with Barnabas and Angelique in the tower room...it's just a classic scene between the two of them, further illustrating their relationship's dysfunctional dynamic.

He needs her, fears her, can't stand her, and can't stay away from her; while she figures if she stalks him long enough and threatens whoever he's currently envisioning as Josette he'll eventually have to give in.

It's just a core Dark Shadows moment...makes me laugh, cringe and want more.

I'd say that it's Collinwood, the house itself.

Happy Birthday to Jonathan Frid - who scared the heck out of me as a child, and whose portrayal of the reluctant vampire continues to be a source of delicious chills today!

For my favorite scene just now (there are too many to narrow it down to an all time fave), I will go with the discussion Barnabas and Julia had about Willie, who was in a coma following his attempt to kidnap/warn Maggie - "He clings to life with a leech-like persistence!"  LOL

Possible spoilers

ALL-TIME FAVORITE DS MOMENT:
____________________________
"My name is Victoria Winters, my journey is beginning..."
The simple phrase that starts it all off - have only seen it once, May 2001 when I didn't even know they were airing the show again.  Love the anticipation of all the stories to come!

FAVORITE OH YUCK, THAT WAS AWFUL, BUT CAN I SEE IT
AGAIN? MOMENT:
__________________________________________
Josette's vision of herself as a vampire that caused her to jump.

FAVORITE GHOST:
__________________
Gerard Stiles - smolderingly sexy.  Yes, Quentin is a bigger babe, but I ended up liking him as a person.

FAVORITE I DIDN'T LIKE THEM AT FIRST, BUT THEN THEY
GREW ON ME CHARACTER:
______________________________
Charity Trask - too prissy and self-righteous.  But that was nothing a little vampire bite and posession couldn't cure. ;)

BEST CLUELESS IN COLLINWOOD CHARACTER:
_______________________________________
Any of the characters who can't believe something supernatural is going on, when they just got done dealing with the supernatural in the last storyline.

FAVORITE SCENE STEALER:
___________________________
Magda Rakosi - just try to look away when she's onscreen, I dare you!

FAVORITE STORYLINE OR PLOT:
________________________
The Dream Curse/Vampire Angelique.  Messy and uneven, but it features some of the series' best showdowns.  And I like messy.

WORST STORYLINE:
_________________
1841PT - Just couldn't get into it.  Dull and somehow unsettling - and not in a good way.

FAVORITE ROMANCE OR ROMANTIC MOMENT:
___________________________________
Barnabas to Julia - never without you...

FAVORITE VILLAIN:
___________________
Count Petofi - Thayer David deserved an Emmy.  This was a villain I loved to hate - in a good way.  Nicholas Blair is a very close second.

WORST COUPLE:
__________________
Jeez, they were all pretty dysfunctional.  Guess I'd have to say Roger and Cassandra or Megan and Philip Todd.  Nothing going on the chemistry department for either couple.

FAVORITE COUPLE:
_________________
Maggie and Joe.  They seemed to really care about each other more than themselves.  That's love, IMO.

But Maggie and Nicholas Blair was a way interesting pairing.  Imagine the possibilities if they'd had Magggie turn to the Dark side!

I WISH THEY HAD GOT TOGETHER, BUT THEY DIDN'T COUPLE:
_____________________________________________
Barnabas and Julia.  'Cos the good doctor really knew how to stand by her vamp.

CHARACTER YOU WISH THEY HAD USED MORE:
_________________________________________
Any of the characters played by Thayer David, but especially Prof. Stokes, who should've been let in on the secrets by Julia and Barnabas.

FAVORITE SUSPENSE:
_______________________
This one is hard...I'll go with the whole 'Elizabeth nearly marries Jason McGuire (who Carolyn's planning to shoot), but instead Liz reveals she killed Paul Stoddard and buried him in the cellar, after which Jason reveals Liz only thought she killed Paul.'  Lots of revelations and insight into the initially fascinating Liz Collins Stoddard character. Good television.

THIS HAD ME ON THE FLOOR LAUGHING MOMENT:
_______________________
Nicholas Blair turning Cassandra's hand all skeletal -"Look at your HAND!"  Could run this on a continual loop and laugh myself sick.

FAVORITE DS BLOOPER:
____________________
Not really a blooper, but when the ghost of Jeremiah kidnapped Angelique on her wedding night and tried to bury her alive why didn't she JUST SIT UP?  The grave was like six inches deep! LOL

What a great idea this was, Rhonda.  It's been really interesting reading through everyone's responses!

Sci-Fi's programming really mystifies me.  I just can't understand why they choose some of the stuff that they air.  When I've logged onto their website however, I have seen some people posting that they don't like Dark Shadows and can't figure out why anyone would still want to watch it. Takes all kinds, I suppose.

Still, am a bit nervous as to whether or not the show will actually return in January.  Have heard that they did cancel it once in mid-run several years back, and that it was only returned to the air due to an aggressive letter writing campaign. Just hope that we don't have to go through all of that again, would hate to lose our show.

Know what you mean about the Dark Shadows DT's, they can be rough!  Have a great holiday in Florida with your family!  :)

I admire your initiative Gerard.  I've yet to do any grocery shopping for Thanksgiving, and am not even sure where my Xmas decorations are. LOL

Happy Thanksgiving to you Annie, and to all the DS folks on this board!!!

BTW, Quentin would make a much nicer dessert than he would a centerpiece - yummy!

And then in 1978 or 1979 Grayson and Sam bought WILDERCLIFF, a house that isn't very far at all from Wyndcliffe.

The construction date of Wildercliff?  1799.  How's THAT for synchronicity!

That is way interesting, Gothick!  Where *do* you get your information?  I don't suppose you know of any pics of Wildercliff online? You must be the ultimate Grayson fan, which I totally respect. :)  :)

Wow!  Mark, I just want you to know that was a great read, and to thank you so much for sharing it with all of us! Truly one of the best DS fanfics I have ever read, and so true to the characters, tone and overall feel of Dark Shadows. Especially loved the wintertime setting and the Christmas ending. The holidays were always absent from the show, and this was a really nice addition to your story.

Thanks for the spelling suggestions.  And I really loved the pics and story behind the 'real' Wyndclyffe!

Current Talk '02 II / A little question
« on: November 26, 2002, 01:48:19 AM »
I'm working on my first effort at DS fanfic, and have a little question. Is the name of Maine's pre-eminent psychiatric hospital spelled:

Windcliff;

Windcliffe;

Wyndcliff;

Wyndcliffe;

Wyncliff; or

Wyncliffe?

I've seen lots of different versions in other's fanfics and/or postings about the show, but wanted to know how it was 'officially' spelled.  Can anyone help me out?
Thanks!  :)

also thought Edward, Judith, Carl and Quentin
which didn't seem strange as my grandmother had two sons after a 15 year gap. also do we know there wasn't two mothers here?

IIRC, there isn't any information actually given about the parents of the four 1897 siblings.  I've always thought that maybe they had different mothers, given their very different temperaments and the wide age gap.

I know *I* didn't take it personally about anyone in this thread disliking Rachel.  I just felt kind of outnumbered. So thanks Dom, for the validation. ;)

Dear CastleBee,

So sorry to hear about the death of your mother.  Please accept my condolences at this difficult time.

And thanks for your message about smoking. As a reformed smoker who experiences the occasional relapse, it's important for me to remember just how dangerous a habit cigarettes are.

God(dess) bless you too,

Cassandra B
