Calendar Events / Announcements '06 II / Re: Shadowgram Update #154
« on: August 06, 2006, 02:45:38 AM »
interesting that shadowgram made no mention of the nice dinner the local southern california fan club had last week with lara parker. marcy and jim both attended. has anyone submitted photos from the dinner to her? at this dinner i sat next to jim and asked him about the videotape restrictions. i heard rumors about this long before this shadowgram update came out. hes saying the stars object! this i have a hard time believing! i think he is going to have mpi release a video of the event so he wants to eliminate the competition. ive been taping/selling the festivals since 1983. jim never had a problem with this before as long as no episodes were being sold or performances by the stars. today i got a mailing from the festival. it makes no mention of videotape restrictions. so is he planning a special mailing to announce this. what about the people who dont subscribe to shadowgram? i and others would be ticked if they bring their camcorders all the way from wherever only to find out they can only tape the skits and costume contest.

yesterday i went to the DARK DELICACIES bookstore in burbank. i purchased the new book, "DARK SHADOWS:THE SALEM BRANCH". LARA PARKER was signing for a group of about 20-30 fans. not a big turnout but Lara said it was better than the 6 fans that showed up in San Diego! Laura a.k.a. victoria winters and louis wendruck arranged a dinner with Lara and her husband at a nearby Marie Callenders. we were a group of 15 and had a great meal and great time.

i said it before and i will say it again, the festival is backwards. first they sell out the hotel and then they announce and have everyone register for the festival.

Current Talk '06 I / Re: Why Did Some of the Actors Leave the Show?
« on: May 28, 2006, 08:54:17 PM »
i believe joan bennett had a contract. its been said by ron sproat (way back at the first ds festival) that she had it in her contract to be allowed to leave the show once a year to do plays. this is why we saw her put into a coma in 67 and burried alive in 68 and sent away in 69.

« on: May 21, 2006, 01:46:08 AM »
i think the episode that ends with barnabas coming to the door and mrs. j lets him in is in kinescope format. the episode before it that ends with the hand coming out of the coffin is on videotape and that technically is barnabas 1st appearance but not jonathan frids. timothy gordon was the hand!

anything made in the PAL video format could be converted to the NTSC format. but doubt anyone is going to go through the trouble to colorize the kinescopes. if they were going to do that they would have done it for the DVD releases. the kinescopes seem to vary in quality. ive seen some that are over exposed and others that look ok. it is too bad they didnt use color film. some stations that showed it on a delayed basis must have shown the entire series or most of it in b-w if all they could get is the b-w kinescopes. it is fortunate that dan curtis owned DS and not ABC because ABC probably would have erased over the videotapes!

yes. not only did they give out copies of the book but the book contained a supplement. the supplement cover has photo of dc with his birth/death date and inside, photos and info on the 2004 ds pilot and his final 2 films, "saving milly" and "our fathers"

i attended the memorial service. jim pierson spoke as well as kls. kls talked about the 1st and last time she saw dc. the last time being shortly b4 he died and he couldnt talk but looked thru photos from the book,PRODUCED AND DIRECTED BY DAN CURTIS with her and held his hand. other speakers included abc exec BRANDON STODDARD and writer RICHARD MATHESON and actor DEAN JONES. other DS allum in attendance were LARA PARKER, DAVID SELBY, CHRIS PENNOCK and BARBARA STEELE but they did not speak. a video tribute was shown compiled by tracy curtis.  the tribute included short clips from the original ds and other dc produced films including winds of war. lots of behind the scenes photos from w.o.w. and behind the scenes footage of dc marching and singing with the actors that were playing soldiers. they also showed the emmy award segment when dc won and barbara steele was standing next to him. everyone received a FREE copy of the book, PRODUCED AND DIRECTED BY DAN CURTIS.
