Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Re:Netscape 7.1 Again
« on: January 11, 2004, 06:50:46 AM »
I don't think so.  On my old computer, I mostly cleared the Netscape cache by using Windows Explorer, finding the folder and deleting the files.  Occasionally, I would just click to "clear cache" in Netscape.

With the new WinXP, it puts things in all sorts of places and I'm not sure if I can find the right folder.  So, I did it in Netscape, but it never gives any indication.  I assume I cleared it!

Anyway, I still can't get into those.  I don't know why they would be different than all the other topics.

Connie, thank you, yes - you answered all the questions!!  When I saw the descriptions of some of those items - that they can track every keystroke, etc., I was horrified!!  What a relief to see that I DON'T have them!!

Especially with your comment about how many you get, I couldn't believe that I didn't have something besides those 4.  I'll try the update - maybe that's why it's not finding anything!!!!

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Netscape 7.1 Again
« on: January 10, 2004, 06:48:20 AM »
I've been regularly using Netscape 7.1 now.  However, the last few days when there have been "new" indicators on some of the Archive sections, when I try to get into them I get:

Unfortunately, the browser you're currently using: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624 Netscape/7.1 (ax; PROMO) has security issues with Dark Shadows Forums. Until further notice, in order to access the forum, you must use MSIE 4.0 or later, Netscape 6.0 or later, or Mozilla. We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

I then am able to get in with IE.  Besides, it lists 7.1 as one of the "bad" ones, but then says to use 6.0 or later (7.1 is certainly later!).

All along we would have Robservations posted by Robin - one long post with two episodes and their accompanying NOTES from her.

Since the end of the show's airing, this last week's postings have had one episode from Robin and then a response, which is the 2nd episode posted by MB.

I've just been wondering why the change!

Connie, let me make sure I'm understanding you.  When I saw the list of items flashing by at the bottom of the screen while it scanned (up to 5835 of them or something like that), I assumed those were things on the computer that it was checking.  From what you're saying, apparently those are the items in the program's database that it is looking for.  Since it doesn't list them in the box afterwards, apparently I DON'T  have them!!

It still just finds the same 4 programs.  I HAVE heard a lot of bad things about both Microsoft and the media players, so I'm not sure if I should ignore those.  So far, I've just let them alone (the 4 programs I listed in my post above).

It's when I click on the name of one of those to get a description of it that a new menu item appears at the bottom - Program Description (or something like that).  When I click that - it has the description of the highlighted program, but it's in a little box with a drop down arrow and all the other programs are listed there.

I take it that you're saying that it is just searching for those and that's where I could exclude some if I wanted to, but only the 4 it found are actually on my computer.

As for those notices, Netscape always tells you when you're entering or leaving an encrypted page, or when you're sending unencrypted  info over the Internet. If you don't want these notifications to come up all the time, all you have to do is uncheck the box on the notification that says something like "always notify me when..."  ;)

I always put up with those.  I'm quite tempted to uncheck the box, but I'm always afraid there could be an instance some day when I WOULD want to be notified, so I just tolerate them all the rest of the times.

Current Talk '04 I / 1841 PT Josette
« on: January 09, 2004, 09:02:28 AM »
In many ways I find it hard to picture Josette developing into this woman.  Perhaps PT people were different!  Anyway, I've always liked this older Josette.

Way back when I first signed on at the SciFi Bulletin Boards, I had been reading them at the library for almost half a year.  Initially, I intended just to read, not post.  But, as time went on, I felt that I was getting to know a lot of the posters and wished I could part of them.  When I finally found how to get an e-mail address without having my own connection at home, I excitedly joined in.

I had intended to take a DS name, and of the available ones, Josette seemed the best choice.  I think there were various forms of Angelique's name already, and perhaps because I have dark hair, Josette seemed better.  None of the other women characters seemed sufficiently interesting.

So, when I first tried to sign up as Josette and discovered there already was one, it was quite a shock.  Then I thought of adding the Josettedupres, and for about 7 years now, I've been Josette.

I always think of that in terms of the young woman Barnabas loved.  But today, as I was thinking of this older version (as I said, I've always liked her), I decided I was quite pleased to be able to be identified with her as well.

That's wonderful, Luciaphil!!  Congratulations on the success of all the work you must have put into it.  I partiuclarly liked your including the "search tips" - more sites should do that.

For anyone who hasn't seen them (or those who just want to remind themselves what happened) 4 of the 18 1841PT episodes have been posted in Robservations, complete with over 150 captures each to download.  :)

Right - so, I assumed we would finish discussing this last little bit of the show before going on to whichever part is voted on.
