Current Talk '04 I / Re:Dark Shadows early VHS

No- the condensation of the episodes was only done for VHS and on tapes 1-8.

I believe that's for the regular series of tapes 1-200 where they had to condense some parts of the early story in order to pretty much start with the arrival of Barnabas.  But, when they were finished with the series and went back to the Collector's Series, I'm sure those were complete early episodes.  I only had a chance to see the first 16 and that was several years ago, but I don't think those were condensed.

But how can this be, you ask, if the NT Roxanne actually turned out to be a youknowhat?  Well, let me explain.  You see, she didn't start off as a youknowhat because the post-PT story which begins in 1995 and is linked to 1840 hadn't happened yet, so Barnabas wouldn't've gone back to 1840 in which case the 1840 Roxanne wouldn't've been, well, you-know-what, so therefore until that point the 1840 Roxanne would've settled down with somebody nice and had kids who down the line would've eventually produced the NT Roxanne who wasn't a youknowhat, so, in this case

None of the 1970 Roxanne made sense.  At least in your scenario you've got the non-you-know-what being a descendant.  But, since in the 1970 we saw, she WAS a you-know-what, there's really no explanation for how she got that way.  Since at that point Barnabas hadn't gone back, presumably it happened to her in a different way.  Or, if we assume there's some sort of cycle to time, so that he really has gone back already to cause it, then she would have recognized him.  I'm sure they never considered any of it when they introduced her, and then they went back to 1840 and subsequently none of it made sense.

It always did seem funny, though, that they came up with the name Roxanne so soon after mentioning it for Willie.  Either someone really liked that name, or for some reason it just stuck in their minds and they forgot they had used it for a non-appearing character.

And, it could be that the decision-maker(s) haven't made the decision yet!  Those who would be in the know don't have anything to "know."  The fact that they've confirmed a couple of their new shows for next season would seem to indicate that they've definitely decided on those, but perhaps haven't finalized which other ones will join them.

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Error while posting
« on: May 11, 2004, 04:36:35 PM »
Last night I wrote a message and clicked "Post."  The screen went white except for a message at the top that said something like "Connection with MySQL lost."

I clicked "back" - my composed post was still there - so I tried to click "post" again and got the message that it was less than 120 seconds since my last post.  So, I went back to the topic and checked, and there was the post.

Calendar Events / Announcements '04 I / Another Karlen appearance

I've never heard of Trio, so I'm sure I don't have it, but in case anyone else does, here's Patrick's latest post:

"For those who might be interested, here is an ultrarare airing of a show with John Karlen that I wanted to list separately from the other listings.

East Side, West Side episode entitled "One Drink at a Time" will air on Trio on Tuesday May 18 at 8pm EDT and repeated at 11pm EDT. For those interested in this show starring George C. Scott, Trio will also air 3 additional episodes during the week. (Lucky for me I just upgraded my cable last week and now get Trio - I myself have never seen this much talked about show.)"

I know it would be very disappointing for us if DS isn't picked up, but considering all the anti-DS feeling from the Angel fans, it would certainly be ironic if DS isn't on, either!!

Nelson, try searching the forum (or perhaps someone else will jump in with the appropriate links).  There were a couple of threads on this subject.  Most people did want everything as it was and were quite upset when they discovered a few "fix ups."  MPI claimed that they weren't going to edit it, but several kept finding little instances like this.

There has been some discussion of this on the WordPerfect forum and that disks might not be safe for long-term storage and tips for how to care for them.

I asked one time about the commercial disks and and whether the same problems would affect music or softward CDs.  I forget the explanation, but it seemed that the process used to make them was different and so they would last longer.  This implies that's not true.

The Guardian was just given a brief hiatus.  I forget whether they particularly wanted to try the replacement (I forget what they had in that slot) or whether it wasn't doing well enough and they wanted to rest it.  They were definitely committed to finishing this season, and it's said to be on the bubble for next season, and it will be announced in a couple of weeks whether or not it's to continue.

They gave it a conclusive-enough ending for it not to be a cliffhanger if it's not picked up, but still plenty of possibilities to continue if it is.
