It's also a little know fact that there was some controversy regarding the reading of Jeremiah's will after Barnabas blew his face off and Angelique plucked him from the grave, all bandaged up, stalking everyone, looking like something from a Universal Studio's 1940's movie chasing after Evelyn Ankers.  It seems he left a little something to everyone in the family save poor Millicent, with a little dig in the will that said "for reasons well known to her".  She decided to get even by writing an expose claiming that Jeremiah was not the nice guy everyone thought he was.  She called it "Mummy Dearest".

Hey!  Whaddya want!  Ray Romano?

I hafta tell ya, I post on various message boards dealing with sortsa topics, from the ridiculous to the sublime, and NONE of them have the people of fantastic quality as this board.  Every single person here is a treasure - no one should be shy to post or be afraid of "what others might think".  We'll all think you're just another person of fantastic quality.  C'mon, lurkers - don't be shy.  Join the family who welcomes you!  Just don't ever say anything nasty about TLATKLS, or Bob, Ringo and I among others will give you such a pinch, and nothing mean about Quentin, either, or Anne's gonna tell on ya!

After Joshua, Daniel (Millicent's little brother) becomes the heir.  Daniel's son, Gabriel (married to Edith) becomes the next heir, followed by one of Gabriel's unnamed kids, who is the parent of Judith, Edward, Quentin and Carl.  Edward's son, Jamison, becomes the next heir.  He is the father of Elizabeth and Roger.  All the rest of us here got cut out of the will.

I hafta wax nostalgic here.  I remember when I first saw the episode wherein Bandaidman carried off the bride Angelique and tried turning her into a planter way back when it originally aired.  I was - what? - ten-years-old and the scene utterly terrified me into covering my face with my hands, peaking through my fingers.  Hey!  That was heavy, scary stuff back then!  We're a bit more desensitized today.

I want to extend my deepest thanks and appreciation to everyone for their condolences and kind thoughts, words and prayers of sympathy when I had to take my "leave of absence" to deal with things when my mom passed away.  Life is now returning to normal and I have a lot of catching up to do with all the messages and posts!  It's good to be back!

Hello fellow DS friends -

My mom passed away this morning, so I'll probably be on leave-of-absence from the board for awhile.  Everyone take care!

TLATKLS.............sssssiiiiiggggghhhhh!  Need I say more?  And even if Angelique would've pulled out all the fashion faux pas stops and made her wear some lime-green bride's maid dress, she still would've looked just as lovely.

I think it was just another Dark Shadows whoopsadaisey, and we've all just gotten so use to them (like having portraits of people hanging here and there decades BEFORE anyone like that was born).

And you have fun in Yoor-up, Julia99!  Buy us all something nice!  None of this T-shirts or Eiffel Tower shampoo containers or Big Ben in the bottom of an ashtray stuff!

Current Talk '02 I / Re: Used to watch DS in 60's
« on: March 04, 2002, 10:05:37 PM »
I saw the very first episode!  It was the summer of '66, and I was watching some game show on the ABC affiliate, 10:30 in the morning.  Why I was doing that rather than playing outside is beyond me.  Anyway, at the end, they had that commercial and I thought it looked fascinating, the new show coming on next at eleven.  Obviously, it was a delayed broadcast since it came on in the morning.  From that point on, I watched it on and off, only partially interested because it wasn't really "scary" yet, but I clearly remember the story of David trying to kill his old man and all that.  I and my friends even played our own version of it (hiding one of those old hotel key chains that read drop in the nearest mailbox in place of the brake thingamajobby.  My interest remained pretty much partial during the rest of the first storyline, as well as the Laura plot, and really picked up during the Barnabas fracas.  By that time, Dark Shadows had moved to its mid-afternoon time slot.  From that moment on, I was hooked.

There were battles with my mom, who didn't want me watching "such crap", plus it came on opposite Art Linkletter's House Party, a show which many 60's housewives viewed as sacred as Lawrence Welk.  However, I won that war, and Art was eventually canceled anyway.  Plus, whenever Joan Bennett appeared, my mom would sit for a few minutes to watch her on "that crap".

>>Also, originally Josette's maiden name was La Freniere.  I don't know if the writers decided that they didn't like this name and wanted to change it to Du Pres, or if they simply forgot what went before and had to find another French name.

I forgot all about that.  Well, for whatever reason they changed it, I'm glad they did.  "La Freniere" sounds like a French cheese factory.

Now that's a good one for some research.  Josette - at least the first mention of her - came pretty early in the show (although she had only her married name of Collins and died, at least then, in the 1830's).  It's interesting that she would be of French origin (and in the earlier episodes, again, she came from France and not Martinique).  Time to start scanning the books and see if they say anything.

Well, of course, Josette DuPres.  But since that's a given, I'll go ahead and say that my other favorites are the Countess Natalie DuPres and - for some totally unknown reason - Auntie Abigail.  Something about that woman rocks my world.

how come Barnabus never freaked out when EVERYONE looks like someone from his own time like Vicki, sorry, Victoria, does!

Never thought of that - LOL! Imagine Roger reacting when Barnabas blurts out to him: "Father".

and Gerard - I do hope you caught the outfit TLATKLS had on in the first ep today!! Did they even HAVE slinky things like that in that day? As Roy O would say 'RRRRRRoowwww''

I haven't seen it yet, Ringo. The VCR beckons. I usually watch the episodes in the evening, when all that needs to be done is done (even if it's not), pouring myself a Skyy-Blue martini, feet up. Now I'm going to be filled with all this anticipation until I hit that "Play" button!
