One other episode I can think of is during the 1967 Laura story which has a scene set in Phoenix, Arizona.  I remember it featured Dr. Guthrie, Frank Garner, and the two Phoenix policemen.  Not sure who else is in it.

Another unusual 1897 episode has no women in it.

Was Jeremy Grimes brought into the show to replace Tad?  I was wondering if Tad was originally to be Carrie's interest.

Interesting trivia on John Beal, who plays Judge Vail.  In 1964 he was hired to play lead character Jim Matthews on Another World and was fired after the first episode.

It would be interesting to see if there is a video of that episode somewhere and see what caused that to happen so suddenly.

I like your idea a lot!  It would explain how 1840 couldn't possibly be connected to 1897 even in the original timeline.

More and more, I see 1840 as some sort of timeline unconnected to "present" 1970 or 1971.   Sure, upon returning to 1971 B&J find history fixed, but what if 1995-summer '70-1840 was one big anomaly or temporal bubble for some reason, and they were returning to a 1971 in which none of that happened in the first place?   Or it's still early in 1970?   Then they could find the present safe and sound, without ever having really done anything in 1840 that affected the present, the "real" present.

He turned 90 yesterday, the age his character Ezra Braithwaite was.

Elizabeth Eis is very pretty.  There's another Grimes- Jeremy Grimes.

I don't think we ever get to see Mordecai Grimes and his daughter Mildred together, do we?  I keep imagining Jim Ward looking very uncomfortable at Grimes family holiday gatherings.  If Mildred Grimes was the best he could find in Collinsport, he should have gone to Bangor for a wife.

Quentin & Daphne were moving to Boston with Tad weren't they? I have to check the 1840 Concordance.
Desmond & Letitica were moving to New York.

Given the history of male doctors on DS, he was lucky!

The elderly Dr. Welles (perhaps named for Violet Welles?) manages to stay alive by very wisely making this his only appearance on DS.

I find that I don't care for Edith or Gabriel, as they don't factor into the main plot and are obviously "shoehorned" in, which given the outcome was futile anyway.  They were better off staying in the background.  Edith fooling around with Gerard was too much for me.  There should be at least some grounded characters in the family.

IMHO...The 1840 bunch aren't anywhere likeable as the 1897 family were.  There's too much needless drama.

Has Edith anything but spite in her?  I can't believe she ever had any use for Gabriel, so she must have married him for the life of luxury at Collinwood, so she shouldn't be complaining about it now.

Current Talk '11 I / 1840: The Empty Collinwood

Has anyone noticed that at the end of this storyline, there aren't anyone left to live in Collinwood other then the servants?
Gabriel, Edith, & Samantha are dead. Quentin, Daphne, & Tad, Desmond & Leticia move away.  Flora & Carrie are at Rose Cottage.
I don't recall anyone mentioning this before, but there aren't any Collinses left at Collinwood itself.

Talk about a plothole!

Is it possible that this is another parallel time 1840?

372
When Elizabeth tells Burke about the 100 year provision, she says that it expires in 5 years.  It was 1967, in 1972 the provision expires.

When David & Amy went exploring the west wing, they came upon a portrait of a Thaddeus Collins, who David said was alive during the Civil War.

This couldn't be 1840 Tad as he died in 1840 in the original timeline.

I am thinking that perhaps the actions of Gabriel & Edith were manipulated by Judah Zachary to rid himself of the rest of the Collins family to coincide with Quientin's hanging.
Edith may have been unconscious after her strangulation, appearing that she was dead at the time to Gabriel.  As for Gabriel, he may have also ended up unconscious falling down the stairs, only this time he legs really became paralyzed.  He dies in 1863 as Edith said in 1897.

As was stated in a previous post, this may have led to the both of them being reformed.
The writers really should have had Edith & her husband (not Gabriel) on vacation or something so they couldn't mess things up.  Terry Crawford could have played another Collins wife married to Gabriel.

Caleb is the Caleb Sayers Collins who owned the house that Vicky & Burke wanted to move into back in 1967.  Turned out he had a clause in his will stating no one could live in the house for 100 years after his death (1872).

Charles is named for the David Selby character on Night of Dark Shadows, who lived around 1805.

Geoffrey was named by Kathleen Resch in her long running Collins Story from The World of Dark Shadows zine.

Current Talk '11 I / Dan Curtis playing a character
« on: February 01, 2011, 02:39:50 PM »
As Dan Curtis was a penny pincher, I'm surprised  he never considered casting himself on DS as an extra or a one/two episode character.   Would this have been against the rules of the actors union?

Imagine DC as Dr. Fisher, King Johnny Romano, etc.
