Sam is almost at the breaking point and who could blame him? First Maggie is safe in the hospital, now she's gone, with no trace of her to be found.

The transformation of Maggie into Josette is disturbing to watch. How can Barnabas think to change someone so completely that they actually become that other person?

In the hospital, Maggie gets Sam to promise to take care of himself, and apologizes to Joe for fighting with him, she didn't mean any of it. It sounds like she's saying goodbye to them, quite heartbreaking!  :(

A very emotional and touching scene between Sam and Joe. Sam was waiting in this same hospital when Maggie was born, now he's waiting here once again, this time for her to die.  :'( Joe tries to lift his spirits, but is not very convinced of his own reassurances. Wonderful acting by all!

Yet another episode where Barnabas is so cruel! Unfortunately, we have to endure many more episodes of this attitude from him.

When Barnabas tells Willie he wants to meditate, might he be thinking of the family he lost so long ago? I have to find some redeeming hope, since he is so terribly violent with Willie and victimizing Maggie.  :(

Unsettled by the storm, Carolyn and Vicki are startled to see a figure, but when they discover it's barnabas, they're relieved. Barnabas talks of how the residents of Collinwood and the Old House used to huddle together on stormy nights like this, and it made me imagine Joshua, Naomi, Sarah, barnabas, Jeremiah and even Abigail sitting around a roaring fire, brought together for just a moment through the commonality of unease by the ferocity of the storm.

Barnabas recounting the tragic narrative of Josette's death is definitely the highlight of this episode. The anguish is so apparent in his voice, so deep it gives me chills just to listen to it. For just a brief time we get to see the human part of barnabas.

Too bad the episode has to conclude with him calling up the stairs for Willie, for we know what is in store for him.  :(

An excellent episode!!

I realize Maggie is under Barnabas's control, but she is being such a brat! She rudely orders Joe to leave and never come back. Poor Joe, he's trying so desperately to do the right thing by Maggie, fully aware she isn't acting like herself, and kind enough not to take it personally. He calls Vicki to take his place, a very considerate gesture on his part.

A lot of people say Joe is boring, but I've always liked him a great deal. He's steady and dependable, and since when is having an exciting and adventurous attitude a prerequisite to being in love?  :)

Jason is interesting, and at times even witty, but Liz definitely doesn't hold anything but contempt for him. Barnabas is mysterious and charming, but he's also very dangerous at this point in the show. So for now, I'd take "Boring" Joe over Barnabas and Jason.  :)

Robert Gerringer's debut!  8) He's such a caring doctor, wish they were all as nice. LOL!

Joe and Sam are anxiously awaiting the doctor's arrival, and in frustration Sam says, "Oh where is that  horse-and-buggy doctor?"  ;D I just love some of the great lines!

After examining Maggie, Dr. Woodard declares she requires a blood transfusion, and gallantly Joe offers to help. IMHO, this is one of the most romantic episodes, simply because Joe doesn't have to give Maggie any of his blood, but because he loves her, he doesn't hesitate. He's completely devoted to seeing her illness through and is willing to do anything necessary to help in her recovery.  8)

After Maggie discovers Joe has given her some of his blood, she tells him to stay out of it. His bewilderment and hurt is all too evident, and who can blame him?

All these great men rallying around Maggie to help her, Sam, Dr. Woodard and Joe, she's very fortunate.

It was great of Willie to make that call to tell Vicki where Maggie could be found, although his voice wasn't very well disguised, and I wonder why she didn't recognize who it was.

In the cemetery after Burke and Vicki find Maggie, Burke tells Vicki to stay close to Maggie while he goes in search of that:::: illusive shadow he thought he saw. I thought this was a strange thing for him to say. What if the madman causing all this trouble should come upon them? Vicki couldn't fight him off alone, and Maggie in her weakened condition would surely be of no help.  ???

Barnabas is sooo very mean in this episode, beating poor Willie. That was a very despicable thing for Barnabas to do!  >:(

Maggie really goes through a roller coaster of emotions, from angry and rude to sad and listless. Poor thing!

Sam's concern for her is very well portrayed, and when she says in such a despairing voice that a doctor can't help her, it's so very sad.  :(

After Maggie's dream, she and Joe go to the Blue Whale  and she recounts her dream to Joe. Barnabas and Sam enter, maggie asks Joe not to tell her father of the dream, and the four of them sit down together. Nervous and tense, Maggie spills a drink and Sam scolds her, telling her he thought he taught her better than to waste good drink. LOL!

When Joe and Maggie begin dancing, Magggie asks Joe what she would do without him, and he responds that she would look a little silly dancing all by herself. He's trying to lighten her spirits, really cool!

Burke and Barnabas's discussion of Barnabas's cane is quite interesting.

Jason comes to the Old House to talk to Willie, asking him what he does for barnabas. Willie replies he does a little carpentry, a little plumbing. I didn't think Barnabas would include any kind of plumbing in the restoration, seeing as how he wants to restore the house to its original state, and that wouldn't include running water. Maybe he's adding a few modern conveniences so when his family drops by, they won't be forced to use an outhouse.  ;D ???

I had this little scenario where Barnabas asks Willie what he looks like. Willie tells him and Barn wants to know what age he looks. Does he look Willie's age? Willie tells him he looks like he's in his 40's. Barnabas isn't happy since when he was put in the coffin he was around 30 so he must've aged somewhat at least in his appearance. Maybe he's attracted to the younger women because in actuality he's not the age he looks, but about 10-15 years younger. So when Julia comes around and she's attracted to him he thinks that's ridiculous because in his eyes she's about 15 years older than he. I'm not counting those 172 years in the coffin.

What a very interesting idea. I like it! It would certainly make sense in the way he is always attracted to younger women. His mentality is much younger, even though he looks older. I'd never thought of it that way.

I heard somewhere, I can't remember where, that vampires didn't age.So shouldn't Barnabas's appearance remain the same upon his death?   ???

I'm trying to catch up with the eps after having to deal with a broken DVD player.  :-[

When Barnabas wanted to have his portrait painted, I too thought he was a bit vain and self centered, but after thinking about it for a while, I came to the conclusion most of you have, that having one's portrait commissioned was quite a natural thing to have done in the eighteenth century, and throughout the show, we se Barnabas clinging to his old-fashioned ways, and this would certainly be in keeping with his character.

Maggie feels that she is being followed, then seconds later Barnabas shows up and she lets him in? Give me a break! Maggie and Barnabas begin chatting about the attack that happened a few nights ago, Barnabas acting all concerned, then Maggie says, "I'm sure you didn't come here to discuss the local crime rate."  8)

I like seeing Sam's worry for Maggie, and rightly so. He comes home and tells her he was worried when he didn't find her at the coffee shop, and that "he came home as fast as that old station wagon would go."
I enjoy these cool lines of dialogue!

There have been documented cases where graves from centuries ago have been exhumed and the lid of the coffin has been scratched at by the occupant who regain consciousness after having been buried in the ground. Horrible.

How disturbing!! The thought of someone being buried alive just makes me shudder!  :o
