For once, Julia has a man interested in her for more than just her brains!   [ghost_wink]

"Brandy" by Looking Glass, with its seaport theme, has always reminded me of DS - the Blue Whale in particular.

The women on this show seem a little dense to me.   First, Vickie seems oblivious to Barnabas' true feelings for her, then Maggie falls hook, line and sinker for Nicholas' act.  Neither seems particularly aware of what these men want, even though it is totally obvious to us.

Thanks for your responses. Yes, I should have been clearer in my comments about Julia.
But I was referring to Tom Jennings and not Barnabas.
Thanks for the clarification.

I've always been a little bothered by the fact that Carolyn and Vickie
so readily forget ever having been under Barnabas' spell once he is no longer a vampire.  Yet, this is not the case with other people who are at least temporarily under a vampire's spell.  I'm thinking particularly of Willie and Julia.  There is at least a plausible explanation given for Maggie's loss of memory, why not the same for the others?   I realize that the plot necessitated Vickie and Carolyn forgetting (after all, the main characters in DS always seemed doomed to be forever in the dark as to what was really going on at Collinwood, so having them know the truth about Barnabas on a permanent basis would never do)
but the inconsistency is still troubling.

Why didn't Dr. Lang just use one body instead of sewing together parts from different cadavers?  It sounds like Julia is planning on using one complete corpse rather than doing a patchwork deal.

The pre-Barnabas Willie seemed pretty feisty and independent compared to the one we see here.  He seems to have been far more traumatized by his experience as a former vampire underling than, say, Vickie and Carolyn, who immediately (and conveniently) forget everything about the experience once they are out from under the spell.

Well, say goodbye to that brunette wig.  I imagine it's moldering away in some deserted costume vault somewhere right next to Julia's.

I don't get Nicholas's plan.  Even if he creates an Eve, their KIDS won't be any different from regular human kids will they?  I mean they're only putting together people from old body parts.  Doesn't that mean that they still have the same old DNA the rest of us have?  Why does he think their offspring will turn out to be the vanguard of some great new "super race" if the basic building blocks are still the same old ones that have been a part of the human race from the beginning?

I guess it's just the suddenly dawning panic when he realizes he's probably not going to get out of this situation alive that strikes a chord in me.  Who among us doesn't dread suddenly realizing that we are up against a psychopath with no way out?  Imagine going into some guy's house to do some handiwork, then inadvertently signing your own death warrant by a single foolish action.  I also have to disagree about Tom's quality as a vampire.  I think he is the creepiest vampire in the history of the show.
The way he suddenly appears in the old house basement while Julia is alone there working on the experiment is one of the scariest moments in all of DS.  Reminds me a lot of that first scene in Night of the Living Dead.
And at the risk of sounding crude...do all these kidnapped women get potty and shower breaks?  I mean, where does Adam take Vickie when nature calls?  Is there a fully functioning restroom in the shut-down wing or does he have to sneak her into the main bathroom?

Of all the characters in DS, I think I feel most sorry for Tom Jennings.  He was just a thoroughly innocent, good-natured guy who happened to come up against heartless destructive evil.  He did literally nothing to deserve his fate, just being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Is it just me, or does Carolyn look exceptionally pretty in that blouse/skirt combo?  Very attractive.

Don't despair just yet.  There's still a lot more to come with the introduction of a few new crucial characters in the next few weeks to go along with the Adam storyline.

Grayson Hall is positively brilliant as Magda.  Hilarious and touching all at the same time.

Man, that Prof. Stokes sure was in a snarky mood today.  First, he makes the comment to Carolyn, "Miss Stoddard, are you a woman given to melodramatics?", translation: "Are you some sort of hysteric who doesn't have a job or attend school and spends all day in a spooky old house coming up with little dramas to fill your empty life"?  Then for no reason whatsoever he gets all uppity with Vickie even though she is trying to help him.  What did that guy have for breakfast?

I'm not blaming Maggie for her reactions, just noting the dramatic irony of it.

I must say that Adam's head ended up on a better body than the one on which it originated.   [ghost_grin]

I always love a good match of wills, and this episode has two: Stokes vs. Nicholas, and Stoke vs. Julia.  Well acted and well written scenes all around.
