I wonder if there was a change in casting directors/companies because post-1795 they never recasted a new character right away again.  Though there are a couple characters that should have been recasted.

This is from Wikipedia on Convy's early career:

Convy started his career in the entertainment business as a featured performer and singer in the Billy Barnes Revues of the 1950s and 1960s. He appeared in the 1961 Warner Brothers drama Susan Slade, playing Troy Donahue's rival for the affections of Connie Stevens. Convy went on to became a Broadway actor, starring in Fiddler on the Roof (1964), The Impossible Years (1965), and Cabaret (1966). He also appeared in the Roger Corman film A Bucket of Blood, playing Lou Raby; and the soap opera Love of Life, playing Glenn Hamilton, a rapist.

Current Talk '12 I / The three finalists for the role of Barnabas

As the episodes we are reading about are airing, there are three actors being considered to play Barnabas.  The second one was Bert Convy, whom legend has it was DC's choice but overruled and stated as a "mistake" to DC by Robert Costello.

Does anyone know who the third one was?

In some parallel universe, there just may be a Bert Convy/James Hall version of Dark Shadows!

Had Roger been killed off as originally planned, I doubt LE would have returned as a new character, and if so it may have been similar to Thayer David's return via a flashback to another time period.  It was too close to bring him back again, especially at this point in the show when a character was written out, the actor was gone.  Bill Malloy was to originally never been killed off, so he may have taken the place of Roger.
As was stated a while ago, it's amazing that Dennis Patrick played two characters so different.  Not only does Paul Stoddard look decades older, he is also a passive/weak character who takes a lot of abuse.  I can see how Jason manipulated Paul as well as Liz, as they both are his victims.

On another tangent, It probably can be theorized they do not really look alike as it never is stated so, which is something the present time tended to do more then the post 1795 flashbacks.
I wish Marmorstein had stayed on DS, the show was more grounded in the real world when he and Ron Sproat were the writers.

I never did understand why Sam Hall stated that he couldn't "even cue Grayson on his scripts" and that they were poorly written.
When Roger goes looking for the paintings that he "bought" from Sam, they should have had him find Barnabas' portrait.  Though the character may not have been cast yet.
It's too bad we never got to see what the human Laura was like.  She probably was unaware of what she really was.

Interesting that every century, some unsuspecting couple in the Murdoch family had a daughter, who they had no idea was really a Phoenix!  Perhaps they are another cursed family.

I liked that they used real footage of a car on fire too.

I saw the trailer last night prior to the "Hunger Games" and it came after the trailer for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which Tim Burton is a co-producer on, and I have to say ALVH's trailer was very much superior to DS.  It has a very serious tone to it.

The audience was basically quiet during the DS trailer except for a few chuckles.  My roommate, who isn't a DS fan but has seen some of the show, didn't like it at all as he says it betrays the original.

There were some new photo's but most were in several other books.
What surprised me about the 2004 pilot was who was actually behind the project being shelved.  I thought it was the reverse.

I have the new KLS book and while I enjoy it, there is reuse of a lot of the text from My Scrapbook memories of DS.

This is sort of like the end of a later episode when Jason is walking through the woods, hears dogs howling and gets a real frightened look on his face as something approaches.

This is never referred to ever again and when Jason next appears it is like it never happened.

One major problem with all the DS incarnations is they repeat the same original Barnabas storyline over & over.  We never get to see new takes on any of the other storylines (except 1795 in the 91 series).

New viewers have no idea that the OS had any other supernatural character other then a vampire & a witch!

They also had Barnabas in the sunlight way too quickly (ep. 2 or 3) that we didn't get his problem at being  a vampire long enough for his cure to pay off, it didn't mean anything.  The OS waited a full year to do this, and it happened after his origin was told.

They should have had the seance as the final scene for season one with Victoria appearing in 1790 as the cliffhanger.

Ray Carlson, Brian Sturdivant, & Tom Happer.  Any of them should have been on longer then they were!
Perhaps each of them could have played a Roger Davis role after Jeff Clark!

TH= Ned Stuart
BS= Dirk Wilkins
CDT= Ray Carlson (or Harry Johnson)
