I wonder, does incorruptibility trump mustard loathing?

Our first-ever DS fight scene--between a nine-year-old boy and his governess/tutor. Good job by both DH and AM--they really got physical!

Apparently Elizabeth feels secure enough about the secret in the basement staying secret that she occasionally walks the grounds. Somehow I'm relieved that she gets outdoors sometimes.

It certainly does seem odd, doesn't it. But I suppose they had to set up her meeting Maggie so that Maggie could warn her to turn around and go back to New York. Otherwise, we wouldn't have learned about the gloomy old house and all the "kooks" who live in it, about whom Maggie could have told tales that would have turned Vicki's hair gray.

The chair in Vickie.s room will at some point appear in the drawing room along with another desk

Elizabeth's little writing desk (I always think of it as hers)  is one of my favorite pieces of furniture in the drawing-room set.

Secret agent Burke Devlin? That would have been intriguing!  [ghost_grin]

The little brat is only nine years old. He might have removed the bleeder valve, but I'll bet that afterward he was absolutely petrified and probably raced back to his own room ASAP. He even might not have realized he was still clutching the bleeder valve till he got there.

Yah. I think Burke made good use of the business section of the prison library, but I don't see him amassing his fortune by illegal or unethical means. Since he hates the Collinses so much, I'm sure he wouldn't want to do anything that would make him be like them--or at least as he perceives them. Most of all he wouldn't want to be anything like Roger.

A boat is a hole into which you throw money.  [ghost_cheesy]

It doesn't seem too implausible to me that Burke has built up a fortune in just five years. I think his fury and desire for vengeance are the engine that propels him through life.

Though the attention in the capture is supposed to on the bleeder valve, not the bracelet.  [ghost_wink]  We can tell where your priorities lie.  [ghost_grin]

Honestly, I never noticed it before, but I'm sure Vicki has been wearing it the whole time. I'm trying my best, but I can't really get into the whole Bleeder Valve Affair. At least Vicki is on to David.

Go, Collinsport Flies!  [ghost_cheesy]

Episode 25, aka The Purloined Letter

Not a lot happens until the very end. In the Robervations we get a nice close-up of Vicki's charm bracelet, [spoiler]which will almost cost her her life[/spoiler].

I also remember those boxes tied with string and the little handles to carry them with!

I think at one point Mrs. Johnson takes David to [I forgot the name], a big store in Collinsport, to buy clothes. This might be somewhere around the [spoiler]Grant Douglas/Leviathan stories[/spoiler]. Actually, I wonder who drove them to town--somehow I can't see Mrs. J. behind the wheel.  [ghost_cheesy]

And much later, or rather earlier, [spoiler]Joanna Mills talks about seeing Samantha Collins in her carriage in Collinsport, going to all the shops[/spoiler].

With the cannery in Collinsport, it would make sense that the biggest stores would be there too--the better to tempt the cannery workers and fishing-boat crews on payday.

Cool, indeed!

Truly a revolting sandwich. I guess it pays not to eat in the Collins Universe.

It's hard to believe our Vicki ever gave anybody a bloody nose, as she tells David when he asks her what's the worst thing she's ever done.

Children have consciences.   That bit with the wrench though, that was inspired for a... 9 year old?   I also like the fact that they expected the viewer to follow what he was doing; I'm not sure they would have today.   Just think what a great Bond villain David could become...

I remember fondly that shows back then actually gave viewers credit for some intelligence. One movie that also struck me that way was the Harrison Ford version of The Fugitive.

And I also like Sheriff/Constable Carter's idea of police work. Dana Elcar is good as Sheriff Patterson, but his policing skills leave a lot to be desired. So I suppose the Collinses wielded some influence when elections came up. Also, I don't think American cops are ever called constables, but then again, the Collinses inhabit a universe all their own.

Do you mean the landing just inside the front door?  I think it's got to be there.  The Evans cottage - or, since we're quoting Luciaphile today, Casa Evans - has no foyer the way Collinwood has, and I think it has to have some sort of foyer surrogate.

Also, back in the 1950s/early 1960s, sunken living rooms were in fashion. So maybe this was Sam's attempt to be stylish.  [ghost_wink]
