Thanks, midnite, for the info.   I kind of remembered a scene like that but wasn't sure.  Appreciate the refresher.

Was there ever a scene showing Maggie at the Old House when she wasn't under Barnabas' spell?  I ask because she seems unsure of where she is in the dream.

So many bloopers, so little time.  First, we have Jonathan running through what seems like the entire repertoire of female characters on the show before finally alighting on Julia's name.  Then, as stated above, Adam is standing peacefully outside a second-story window as if he were floating on air.

I also found it ironic that Adam would think Barnabas of all people DIDN'T know what it was like to be alone when Barnabas is probably the most love-deprived and unrequited character in all of DS (second only to Angelique, but then she deserves it).  I know Adam probably is not aware of that fact, but the irony still struck me as amusing.

If Barnabas really wanted to be a success at giant-slaying maybe he should have borrowed one of David's slingshots.  That rifle sure did him no good and, frankly, he looked a little foolish holding it.

I, too, liked the scene between Roger and Vickie.  Sometimes my favorite moments in DS have nothing to do with vampires or monsters but are just quiet exchanges between characters.

What an elitist Barnabas is.  Sacrifice the poor waitress that nobody will miss, just so long as all the Collins family members and his beloved Vickie are safe from harm.  This was not one of Barnabas' more shining moments, but then again that's what makes for interesting characters and drama.

Just wanted to say...I LOVE Carolyn.

And why do Jeff's vampire bites keep disappearing?  And why doesn't he ever seem drained of energy?  Is Angelique giving him a low dose of vampirism or something?

This show is remarkably inconsistent in its portrayal of how vampire bites affect people.   Maggie, Willie and Julia, for instance, acted as if they could barely drag themselves out of bed when that happened to them, while Jeff seems to be just full of vim and vigor.  In addition, where are the bite marks on Jeff's neck?  Here he runs around for the entire episode with his collar wide open. displaying no telltale sign that he's ever been bitten by a vampire.

One thing that has never made sense to me in this Elizabeth storyline is the issue of embalment.  Would it even be possible for a person to be buried alive in modern times?

I'm confused.  Doesn't a vampire, almost by definition, NOT have a life force?  And now Nicholas wants to bring back a DEAD WOMAN to serve as the life force for Eve?  This is really some screwy plotting.

I must say I thought Roger Davis did pretty well in his scene with Angelique.  He remained restrained throughout the scene and showed, I think, that he actually does OK when he drops the histrionics.

I thought Lara Parker was exceptionally wonderful in this episode, especially in her scene with Nicholas.  I found it almost touching when she said about Joe, "I don't like doing these things to him."  I thought Angelique rather liked having a hunk in her thrall, but it does show she may genuinely care for him and actually regrets in some strange way having to hurt him.
Kind of like when she says in 1897 that she actually cares about what happens to David.
Such scenes make Angelique a little more complex and, dare I say it, "human."

Superb acting from all concerned in this episode.

My only quibble is that the script has Angelique summoning Joe before she's risen out of the coffin.  Is that the typical modus operandi for vampires?

And, oh my, but that Julia sure knows how to peel off her gloves for dramatic effect!

Come on, folks.  You gotta have a little weirdness sometimes.  I think always having him lurking in the shadows, so that sometimes only his arm is visible in the background adds an aura of eeriness and suspense often lacking in the otherwise rather cerebral horror that is DS (it probably would have been more effective in the black and white episodes).

He reminds me a bit of that creepy zombie in the opening scene of "Night of the Living Dead."

Yea, I like the otherwordly quality he conveys.  Speaking of not talking, I find it interesting that, unlike all the other vampires on the show, Tom doesn't speak and act like a "normal" person, more like a ghoul or creature.

I really love all the comments in this thread...very amusing indeed.

Sometimes I wonder about Tom's taste in women.  With such delectable morsels as Vickie, Carolyn and Maggie hanging around, he's so far "hit on" Julia and Elizabeth.   Barnabas was clearly more discriminating as a vampire than Tom is.

I like how they always have Tom lurking in the literal dark shadows.  It does add to his sense of menace.

I'm always impressed by how easily the people in DS manage to move heavy objects (like when one person is able to not only dig up a coffin but lift it back to ground level all by himself).  Today, when Jeff ponders why they moved all of Dr. Lang's equipment to the old house basement, he really should have been asking HOW they did it!  Barnabas is clearly way too refined to do anything so vulgar as moving furniture and I doubt Julia would have been much help in that regard either.  So I guess it was all Williy's doing, either that or they hired the Collinsport Bekins and did it all under the cover of darkness.

How many hysterical calls for help do you suppose the sheriff has received from Collinwood over the years?  I can just imagine his reaction: "Good grief, there go those crazy rich people up on the hill again.  What do they DO up there?"
