Current Talk '07 I / Re: Gerard Stiles' zombies
« on: April 22, 2007, 03:15:29 AM »
I watched that episode just a few days ago , and i have to say it 's one of my favorite scenes from the entire series .
Collinwood overrun by zombies , Barnabas overwhelmed by them , and at the last minute Julia escapes thru time via the staircase that appears at the last minute ...it's one of the most dramatic scenes in the series , the family in the middle of complete distruction as B&J have failed to stop the horrors of 1995 to come about , the surprise of Julia escaping without Barnabas ...
there are so many things to love about that scene :)
I can suspend disbelief a little that the zombies were obviously just regular people with face paint . The scene really fires my imagination , and that beats top notch special effects any day !

In the audio drama Return to Collinwood , events from 1970 are referenced , such as Maggie's breakdown , and Sebastian 's involvement with her . I realsie that a lot of people will dismiss the audios as not being canon , although some ( like me ) do accept them . But there 's one reference that the events were largely unchanged.
Trying to make sense of DS 's time travel consequences are nearly impossible . Even after 1897 was changed , everyone remembers Quentin as a ghost ! So that some events of 1970 were the same , including Roxanne , isn't surprising , although I can't really expalin how that would work ...
I too really wish that the show had had a little more time to return to the present , especially since we could've finally gotten a Barnabas/Julia romance , and seen the family 's storyline resolved .

I really loved all the new audios , and TRB was a great addition to the line , leaving me breathless for the next season of plays .
I do agree with what others ahve already said, that the cliffhanger at the end was unconvincing . The portrait will keep Quentin safe , and Barnabas can disappear and appear at will . For that matter , Angelique could surely do something to help .
The drowning cliffhanger didn't bother me , as Angelique felt the coldness of the water , this was obviously "magic water" , and I thought Lara Parker's performance in that scene was very strong . i always thought LP did her best performances when Angelique was in peril .
One thing that did bug me was the way Angelique and Willie were blaming Maggie for Quentin and Barnabas's impending doom . They both knew she was possessed and not responsible for her actions . Angelique might have doen it just out of cruelty , and a desire to stirke out inher grief , but it seemed out of character for Willie . Willie understood that Maggie was possessed and was a victim in all of this . I was really surprised that he didn't defend her to Angelique . I guess we'll have to see how things play out next season , as it's bound to pick up very shortly after the end of TRB . I think because it was the last scene of the season it
s jarring wrongness made a bigger impression on me .

Current Talk '07 I / Re: Crushes on DS Stars
« on: March 05, 2007, 09:48:48 PM »
There are a lot of gorgeous men on this show , and I have to give honorable mention to Don Briscoe and David Selby , but my crushes are on Peter/Jeff and Joe .
Funny enough , Ned , Dirk and Tate didn't have the same effect on me , so I guess personality counts . Nathan is smoking hot , but I know bad boys are no good ! Apparently it's the good boys who do it for me !Quentin is gorgeous but too fickle in his attentions.
Joe is so sweet and decent . Perfect husband material .
Jeff is handsome , and so devoted he crossed centuries for love ! He's also seems to be oversexed , he always seemed very , um , authentic , when making out with Vicky . I don't recall anybody else onthe show getting into their love scenes with as much enthusism as Jeff!

I beleive Angelique truly loved Barnabas . Lust will only take you so far , and Angelique's love for Barnabas definitely stood the test of time , lasting well over a hundred years .
As for the curse , Angelique did die over and over again , with frequent resurrections , so I think it's possible to see that as her curse at work.

That does make sense , except during that time Vicky would still be locked in jail . I suppose that since events are playing out differently when Barnabas and Kitty went back to 1796 Vicky could have been liberated somehow . I hope that someday an official audio or book straightens out this mess !

Current Talk '07 I / Re: Marie Wallace in DS audio the Rage Beneath ?
« on: February 20, 2007, 01:50:31 PM »
I emailed the DS branch of Big Finish asking about Marie Wallace and got a responce from Stuart Manning that she has a cameo of
one of the crowd watching the ship come to dock . Maybe I mistook her for Susan Grifffith or just didn't notice her .
In a review at collinwood.net he directed me too , he described her part as blink and you'll miss it , but that he hopes for her to play a proper part in the future .

Current Talk '07 I / Marie Wallace in DS audio the Rage Beneath ?
« on: February 20, 2007, 04:33:55 AM »
I 've listened to the new DS audio play The Rage Beneath twice now and I haven't noticed Marie Wallace anywhere in the play . She's listed in the creditson the cd liner , but she's not listed on the online credits on their official website . But the only female characters I 've recognised were Maggie , Angelique and Susan . So does anybody know anything about this  ?

In 1795 when Barnabas is lyng in bed chocking to death , while Angelique has tied his hankerchef around the toy soldier , Jeremiah is hovering over Barnabas and at one point puts his hand on Barnabas's thigh /upper leg. It's shockingly intimate , and fuels the fire for Barnabas/Jeremiah slash .
Personally , I wonder if the actors were intimately involved behind the scenes and their familiarity caused them to slip up and be a little more familair in that scene than they meant to .
I certainly wouldn't want my uncle touching me there !

I agree that PT Roger was all out gay . Check out hose ascots lol !
And I really think of Joshua as being straight . I found his relationship with Naomi in late 1795 to be touching . I also though after Naomi's death that Natalie would 've made a very interesting second wife for Joshua.
Edward ? He seemed pretty smitten with Kitty .
Daniel ? Don't really know there , I guess that could go either way .

I always had my own idea of how the Burke/Roger falling out went down :
Roger made a fumbling drunken pass , Burke rejected him rudely , but wrote the whole thing off as a drunken misunderstanding . A spurned Roger accepted Laura's intrest just to
take her away from Burke, and when the drunk driving hit and run happed , Roger still vengedul , framed Burke to save his own skin .
Sure Roger hated Burke , but there's a thin line y'know.

Yes, in the later years of his life Luis Edmonds was openly gay . From what I 've read he was open with his castmate friends even back during DS , hosting parties at his weekend home with his partner at the time . Joan Bennett was a frequent houseguest of Louis and his partner .

I always thought of Roger as being discreetly gay anyways .
He shows no intrest in Laura when she 's around . He married her after the hit and run accident . It seemed to me like he married her to
keep her quiet , and also possibly he wanted her becasue she "belonged" to Burke .
Really , I always though that Roger had a thing for Burke . Some of their scenes in the first year are pretty slashy .
Angelique used magic to get him to marry her , and their relationship is pretty distant . I can't beleive Angelique would consent to having sex with Roger , she seems very picky about her partners . Barnabas , anytime , anywhere . Sky , of course . Even Quentin I can believe she may have slept with . But Roger ? No way.
And then once Cassangelique is gone Roger shows no sexual /romantic intrest inanyone . And of course LE was openly gay , so his persona does bleed over into Roger somewhat . At the very least Roger was metrosexual before the concept was popularized .

Throw in resolving her parentage and I'll even buy one.
For a partial answer to that ( even though Vicky herself isn't in it ) check out the Return to Colliwood cd play :)

With new DS stories being told with Big Finish audios I 'm hoping they do a special story to straighten out Vicky and Peter's fate . That would require Alexandra Moltke , Roger Davis and Chris Pennock to all return to do it right , although they could use new actors in some parts .
They also could just bring Vicky back . Say , like this :
While taking a late night walk on the beach , Maggie and Quentin  ( or whoever ) find Vicky washed up on the shores of the beach below Widow's Hill ,miraculously alive . Vicky could have been brought forward in time when Jeb pushed her off the cliff. The story could go on from there , with no need to immediately involve Peter or Jeb , although they could be brought on later. At the very least Vicky could get closure with Peter thru a seance , with Peter speaking thru another character.
I would love something like this to happen .
