My old notes say that this was the last episode written by Art Wallace. His script called for "as many verses as one wants" of "Drunken Sailor."

Bill appears to Vicki and warns her to get away before she's killed, but his thoughtfulness doesn't extend to unlocking the door for her. But at least he can carry a tune!

Whoops, I did mean Will, of course! But I agree that this storyline started out with incredible promise that was squandered because they filmed HoDS at the same time. One wonders what might have been if they hadn't done the movie--or at least not then.

Do we know that Quentin was Elizabeth and Roger's younger brother? I always thought they were some kind of poor cousins that Quentin allowed to live at Collinwood out of the goodness of his heart.

I also liked Carl and Carolyn Loomis. Maybe Carolyn wanted to rise above her mother's station and frumpy wardrobe and hung out at literary and artistic events. She must have married Carl back when he was still cranking out bestsellers.

It would have been fun to find out all the things you mention, Gerard!

So I guess we can safely (as it were) assume that the yellow tent dress (also called a caftan) was one of those "fashions courtesy of Ohrbach's." Oy, oy, oy!

I loved that black-velvet-and-pearls look for Elizabeth. I was always happy when they brought something back that resembed that gown in the first two episodes.

Could that weird rolled neck dress have really every been considered fashionalbe?

Most unfortunately, yes. They were called tent dresses, and although they didn't all have that rolled collar, they were still pretty awful.

I think David is treating himself to milk AND pie because he's so pleased with how cleverly he has managed to dispose of Vicki.

For the first time, Elizabeth is wearing that awful yellow hostess gown that will figure so prominently--and in color, no less--in HoDS. Her hair looks great, though. When she worries about David and Vicki, Carolyn tells her not to get one of her premonitions--this is the first and last we hear that Elizabeth has them!

Elizabeth reminisces about the parties at Collinwood when she was young--presumably they were hosted by
her father, Jamison
. No doubt he enjoyed the treasure hunts in all the rooms of the West Wing before the rooms were closed off fifty years ago.
I never thought about it before, but maybe he closed them off as a cost-saving measure--maybe after the crash of 1929?
Speaking of fifty years ago, David entertains Vicki with a story of a girl who was trapped in the West Wing and not found for fifty years. He gloats, By then she was dead bones!

Yeah. If the writers hadn't decided to have a storm, David could have said that his aunt was walking around the grounds or had gone to see Matthew about something.

When Vicki is gazing out the french windows at the storm, David comes in and tells her that his father has gone out and they are alone in the house. Where can Elizabeth possibly be??!!

Later in the episode, Joe "resigns from being an idiot" and gets ready for his dinner date with Maggie.

David is stunned that his father lied for him to Vicki. Later, though when he (D.) declares his intention of getting revenge, Roger says merely, That’s a matter that should be settled between the two of you. He thereby throws Vicki on David’s tender mercies, and David takes that as license to do whatever he wants. Evidently Roger is still afraid she’ll blab about The PEN and may be hoping that his charming son will scare her into leaving and save him from having to bribe her into a quick departure.

According to his IMDB entry, he did guest stints on a whole bunch of TV series. He also had a small role in The Sting! Later in life, he went blind from diabetic retinopathy but acted a role portraying a character who was also going blind. He died in 2005.

And yes, he was the best sheriff and my fave too.

I suppose Roger was surveying the grounds of the real Seaview. Once again, he is wearing his Inverness cape.

Later, he buries The PEN in a shallow grave.

Maggie invites Joe over for dinner. He says he'll think about it. What's to think about??!! Later, he teasingly tells Maggie that the deserted part of Collinwood--mentioned here for the first time!--is teeming with ghosts, dark corridors and dead people.

So guess where David wants to take Vicki?

When Roger comes to David's room and finds Vicki supervising David's school work, he is apparently surprised to see that she has The PEN--even though he already saw it with her just two episodes ago.

Roger offers Vicki two or three thousand dollars to leave Collinwood (presumably without The PEN). That was not an insignificant amount of money back in 1966.

Later on, Roger sneaks back into David's room, takes The PEN and makes a clean getaway!

I ackowledge the wisdom of those who are more knowledgeable than I am. I hope Mrs. J's daughter didn't marry someone like her brother.

As Mrs. Johnson's cab rolls up to the Great House, we see Matthew trimming the hedge with a really wicked-looking pair of shears.

Matthew suggests Mrs. Johnson could go live with her daughter--the first and I think the last time we hear that she had any descendants. But she quickly realizes that Matthew is trying to talk her out of taking the job.

Mrs. J says that the salary Elizabeth is offering her is more than fair. I wonder what that would have been in 1966 dollars.

And Mrs. J gives Burke what for when she tells him, I don't like your tone, Mr. Devlin. I don't much like you.

Go, Sarah!!!   [hall2_smiley]
