In the opening voiceover of this episode, Vicki says she arrived at Collinwood months ago--but in real time less than two weeks have passed since her arrival. We're up to day 11 or so, right?

It would have been fun to see Roger taken away in handcuffs or something.

It's strange that no one in this maritime community seems to realize that in the interval between Roger’s finding Bill Malloy’s body and Vicki’s finding THE PEN on the beach, the tide has come in and out several times!

Carolyn is in tears as she assures Vicki that she's known her uncle Roger all her life, and that he would never try to kill her. But didn't Roger and David live off in Augusta or somewhere?

Roger gets one of the best episode-ending lines ever as he snarls to the sheriff, I just can't take any more! Someone may want to do away with our little governess. But that someone is not I!

I'll bet Sam has a running bar tab as long as his arm!

I think it was an apron--at least that's what my old notes say. If so, maybe it was a metaphor for how Roger is financially dependent on Elizabeth, tied to her apron strings, so to speak.  [hall2_cheesy]

Drat!  The writers set up a golden opportunity to kill off Vicky and they didn't follow through!  What were they thinking?

I would much prefer to have seen Matthew driving Mrs. Johnson into town.  Even if neither of them said a word, Thayer David and Clarice Blackburn are both capable of making that a fantastically memorable scene.

I'm with you, Lydia. That would have been one of the most interesting scenes ever. I can just see Mrs. J asking Matthew his opinion of store-bought vs. homemade mayonnaise.  [hall2_grin]

Good one, MT!  [hall2_smiley] But it does make for one of the few cliffhanger endings we've had so far.

While waiting for Roger to come home, the Mistress of Collinwood and CEO of Collins Enterprises is sitting on the bench in the foyer, mending an apron, probably her own apron at that--a nice touch.

Well, I think that Hallie was supposed to be the daughter of Stokes' brother.

Yup--she would have to be the daughter of a male Stokes in order for her last name to be Stokes as well.

I loved Paula Lawrence and I wish they had done more with her.

Some interesting items in this ep.:

I confess I have to feel a little sorry for David--everyone automatically assumes he tried to break into Vicki's room!

Elizabeth suggests that Matthew take Mrs. Johnson into town to do some shopping. I suppose Elizabeth phoned her orders to the local stores and had everything delivered. But why would the deliveries stop with Mrs. J's arrival? Maybe she likes to select her own produce as well as make her own mayonnaise!

Vicki nearly gets run off the road--at least no one suspects David this time. The signpost says she's 2 miles from Collinsport. We have to assume she walked there from Collinwood and thinks nothing of walking all the way back. She must be a tireless walker!

I believe this is the first time that someone at Collinwood takes a sedative. A historic moment!  [hall2_grin]

At the end of the last episode, Vicki sneaks out of Collinwood wearing her coat. By the time she gets to the BW, she is back in her dark suit!

I'm back from lurkdom (and a vacation) to find yet another wonderful continuity blooper!  [hall2_wink]

When Vicki spots The Duplicate Pen, she looks right at some contracts on the table. If she had studied them for even a moment she might have found out some very interesting things about Burke's strategy!

Carolyn's ensemble is so 1966: a (very nice) upswept hairdo, industrial-strength black false eyelashes, and WHITE lipstick!!! (Yes, I wore it too.)

Now that she has a new audience in Frank, Vicki tells yet another foundling-home story. I keep hoping each new one will be the last, but noooooo. But then Richard Garner takes Frank aside and warns him that Elizabeth Stoddard is their client--buzzkill.

Despite her mod getup, Carolyn storms out of the Blue Whale. Maggie smiles a faint and not unhopeful smile. When Joe comes back from taking Carolyn home from their (at last!) final date, he asks Maggie name the sails on a full-rigged ship. There are a lot more than on a schooner, and Maggie rattles them off perfectly. (According to my old notes, this was Ron Sproat's first script, and he evidently did his homework.)

Sometimes poor Elizabeth must feel like she's the only adult at Collinwood.

I liked her comeback at the end of the episode, when Roger still suspects that Vicki is spilling all the Collins family secrets to Burke. What might she be telling him now? Roger asks. She says, I don't know, but I do know that Vicki can't tell Burke anything I wouldn't tell him myself--could you say the same?
