I always loved it that late in almost every story line, the writers just threw everything but the kitchen sink into the mix just to bring the story to an end. It's like everyone knows that nothing makes sense but they just go along and do the show anyway.

Josette picks the wrong moment to make her portrait glow. By the time Burke turns to look at it, her batteries (or whatever) have worn out and portrait is dark again.

Nice work by Thayer David in these eps.!

I'm with you about Joel Crothers, MT! I watched the first available episodes (starting with no. 210) via Netflix streaming and once again appreciated how he turned what could have been a cardboard character into a complicated flesh-and-blood human being.

True, their flirting is pretty dull, even though Burke does manage to take off his jacket--the equivalent of full frontal nudity back then! Things don't really get going until Joe shows up and says he'll take Carolyn home. I won't leave till I want to leave, she replies, and Joe retorts, When will that be--tomorrow morning? Carolyn is shocked, shocked! Then an actual fight scene!

We're back! Hooray!

In celebration of the new year, Elizabeth is finally actually wearing her suit jacket.

Matthew tells Vicki he's hidden his car deep in the woods. Even though Collinwood is apparently a pretty big estate, surely the sheriff could find the car!

Yes, Magnus, I think Tim Stokes moved into Hannah's house--but maybe it was his all along and she was just staying there.

Meanwhile, Merry Christmas to all!

My private hypotheses for Hannah and Buffie were that
Hannah fled far, far away from Angelique and that Barnabas released Buffie from his thrall, then advised her to sell the painting that Yaeger gave her and move to New York. But that's just my own idea with no basis whatever.
But Maggie was
never really a Leviathan, was she? The box had no effect on her, and she pretended to be one so she could get inside information and pass it along to Barnabas.
Nicholas's robe is gray silk, isn't it? If so, then I don't think it's Barnabas's--at least I don't remember him wearing a gray one.

David-Elijah, thanks for the link. I thought HAA was great from the moment he first darkened the door of the Great House in Nicholas Blair's first appearance. His sly wit and thorough enjoyment of all his roles was pure delight. It would have been interesting to see him play a good guy....

You're a star, MB! Thanks! Those are both a hoot!

Maybe JB is wearing one of her own dresses--I don't remember seeing it in the show or in HoDS. It looks very much like a typical summer dress from that time, although I was heavily into my hippie look by then. ;)

So is this the debut of the pretty little writing desk? For some reason it's one of my favorite pieces of furniture at Collinwood.

I'm sure lessons in handling a shotgun were not included in Vicki's schooling at the foundling home. Miss/Mrs. Winthrop would be horrified at the very idea!

That seems like an awfully long time from now, MB. :(

[clap] I like that idea, Lydia! Nothing like tradition, is there!
