Yeah, and don't forget Vicki's changing clothes and hairdo when she walks along the shore below Widows' Hill. And a million other instances, even without location footage, much later on.

David is so insecure about meeting his mother that he actually asks the hated Miss Winters for her advice. Better the devil you know, I suppose....

Well, the Gulf Stream does pass right next to Maine, so maybe the climate was somewhat moderated. Or maybe they were having an El Niņo year.

More of the spooky spell-casting music as Sam tries to fight whatever it is that is forcing him to paint-- well, something that we will see soon. At any rate, Sam finds it horrifying, so we get a genuine cliffhanger ending.

Yes, suitably spooky. Nice bit with David dreaming.

When Vicki goes to bring David to the drawing room, Alexandra Moltke doesn't go up the stairs, and you can see some of the joins of the sets.

David is better at history than at math. Hmmm....

When Mrs. Johnson is trying to get David to go to bed, he tells her he doesn't like her cooking--not the last complaint about it either!

In her very best Glamorous Matriarch mode, Elizabeth invites Laura to sit by the fire. Laura admires the fire--um, the fireplace. Elizabeth replies graciously, "It's my favorite in the house. I keep it going almost constantly." I don't suppose they have many heat waves in Collinwood--and I suppose that now that they're without Matthew, Roger is stuck with the chore of getting firewood.

Meanwhile, David has a serious sleepwalking episode.

First appearance of Liz's yellow Zippy dress?

Do you mean the shapeless yellow caftan with the rolled collar? Maybe....

I believe this is the first time we hear that witchy, spell-casting music with the swooping violins--but far from the last time!

This script writer can't seem to wait for Maggie and Joe to become an item. They are very cute together!

Bleh. I have never liked the fingernails and like them even less in their closeup. But Michelle looks great!

After first appearing in a rather summery-looking outfit, Laura returns to the diner in a wool coat with a dark fur collar.

I guess Bob was mistakenly relying on Joe to keep Sam from getting sloppy. Maybe he's a laissez-faire bartender.

Well, it was a suspicious death, so they probably would have had to have the sheriff and the coroner take a look before they could move Matthew. I'll bet Elizabeth gave him a fine funeral and had him buried in the Collins section of the cemetery, with a headstone saying something like "faithful servant."

Elizabeth tells Vicki that Josette's ghost saved her great-aunt's life. Elizabeth's great-aunt would have been
Judith Collins!
The episode ends nicely with that footage of Josette weaving in and out of the pillars of the Old House facade. Is she dancing? Or trying to escape?

Somehow Maggie already seems to know that Vicki saw the ghost of Josette. When Joe walks into the diner, she greets him cheerfully with, What do you hear from the morgue?

I entirely agree. And he was such a nice guy too.

Nice scene with Elizabeth and Vicki when Vicki returns to Collinwood. I wish they had made more of the Vicki-Josette connection, but we can't have everything, I guess.

Interesting point, Penny, although I preferred thinking about it as the professor's Achilles heel, so to speak. Otherwise he would have been too smart.

Oops, I meant Roger touches Matthew, who then collapses to the floor.

And this is the most ghost-ridden episode of them all!

I liked the bit where Burke touches Matthew, whose lifeless body falls to the floor.
Not the last time we'll see that particular effect, though.
I also liked the Josette in this episode.
This, however, is the only time she speaks with a French accent.
