Current Talk '03 II / Dark Shadows on DVD
« on: August 08, 2003, 03:30:22 PM »
Hey all,

I posted this in an earlier thread but I think it ended up on the other forum board MB is currently working on...

Hubby and I just joined the 21st century last weekend with our purchase of a DVD player.  Yay!

My question is this - of the six collections currently available, if you could only buy one (I ain't made of money) which one would it be?  Which is the best in terms of picture quality, extras, etc?

Any advice will be most appreciated!  :-*

Luv,

Alix (Cassandra Blair)

Current Talk '03 II / Re:DS DVD questions
« on: August 06, 2003, 05:31:54 PM »
Jumping into this thread, hoping it isn't totally dead.  We just got a DVD player this past weekend, and I'm ready to start purchasing the Dark Shadows box sets.  But I'm not made of money.

My question is this: out of the five or six DS box sets currently available, which one do y'all think is the best in terms of extras, picture/sound clarity, etc?

BTW, I've checked several sites, and it looks like to me like www.deepdiscountdvd.com is the best deal, since they offer free shipping.  But the other sites listed in this thread are comparable.

Any help will be most appreciated!  8)

I'll be around here to talk about DS whether or not Sci-Fi chooses to start over...but I'm with Raineypark in the desire to say an incantation to increase the odds in our favor for a new run of our favorite show.  [witch]

Since 1999, when I rediscovered Dark Shadows, I've written to Sci-Fi several times (snail mail) to thank them for airing the show.  I intend to do so again, requesting that they keep DS in their lineup.  Hell, I'd be fine even if they run it in the middle of the night.  Do any of you think writing to the channel actually helps?  I don't get SoapNet, so Sci-Fi is my only hope - other than video/DVD.

BTW, dom - I loved your recounting the first scenes of the first ep.  I too would love to see those early eps again!  :)

Current Talk '03 II / OT- Senator Collins
« on: August 01, 2003, 10:57:40 PM »
Maybe everyone else already knows this, but on "Good Morning America" today, I saw Senator Susan COLLINS (R., Maine) interviewed.

Just thought it was funny that one of Maine's senators has that particular last name.  Quite appropriate, don't you think? ;)

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Current Talk '03 II / Re:The Seance and the Hatpin

I participated in a seance once.  It was a strictly amateur affair (nothing much happened), but one of the people there had been to a few 'real' ones.  He said he'd heard that best results came from an odd number of people at a round table, with a mix of males and females.  I didn't hear anything about a maximum number of attendees, but would think that any more than 7 or 8 would just be difficult.  Think of the size of the table if you had 13, for example!   :o

(let's not even get into the fact that no one in their right mind would be wearing a coat like that in the middle of June! :o)

Ha!  Good point, MB! ;D

Certainly nobody would put Angie forward as an example of good mental health, but corpse girl is always getting cold - maybe she needed the coat to guard against that infernal chill she's always feeling.  ::)

I thought the same thing the other day, Vlad.  When they first started talking about the seance, it didn't seem to be so well attended.  But now, everyone was there.  I'm surprised it hasn't come out that Horace Gladstone, Claude North, Roxanne and half the gang from down at the Eagle weren't there too!  ::)

BTW, does anyone know when it was that women wore such hatpins as those in Liz's collection?  Was it back in Edwardian times when they had the elaborate hair and hats?

Current Talk '03 II / Re:Angelique Stokes Collins (de Winter)
« on: July 30, 2003, 03:45:32 PM »
Glad to still see this topic, because I wanted to respond to it...

Yes, I think PT Angelique does have feelings for Quentin, she's obsessed with him!  And IMHO, she's more than a little pissed off that he could marry again so soon after her death to mousy little Maggie Evans.  Plus, I think she always saw herself as the grand lady, and believed growing up that being the mistress Collinwood and wife of Quentin was her birthright.

I think she doesn't put a spell on Quentin to love her for the same reason(s) she didn't hex Barnabas.  He has to come to her willingly, blah blah blah.  That's the only way she can get him to share in her unholy existence.

Did she get busy with Bruno, Will, Cyrus, and Dameon?  My money's on yes!  As for Trask, you can't be sure.  I think she would be too snobby to sleep with the help.  And as for Roger - I don't think so at all.  He was probably more useful to her if she kept him on a string thinking maybe one day he'd get there.
I've always thought her teasing and sexually frustrating the bitchy, tightly-wound PT Roger is likely the underlying reason why he killed her.
As to the last question, I guess Angelique was really young when she had Daniel.  Of course, this was probably just sloppiness on the writer's part.  But suppose that Daniel was only twelve at the time of the events we see in PT1970.  He might only have been eleven when his mother died.  So maybe she did get married right out of high school.  That was more common back in the '60's than it is now, wasn't it?

That said, I have to add that I don't like PT Angelique as much her RT counterpart.  She isn't nearly as fascinating as she thinks she is, and is less of a three-dimensional character than RT Angie.  I  also wish we'd gotten to know more about Alexis before her sister did away with her.

I guess the cameraman was drinking the same thing I've been drinking this morning (unenhanced coffee), because I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong with the picture - other than Angelexis' fashion faux pas!   ::)
