Great episode with all that stuff going bump in the night.  The scenes were very well written and acted, especially the ones involving Maggie and David.

I must say, though, that I would expect Mrs. Johnson to have provided more in the way of dinner than a mere sandwich and a glass of milk.   Those Collinses must be bigger cheapskates than I imagined.

My favorite line is when Elizabeth says something to the effect that David has to be shown the difference between reality and all those other fantasy items like "witches, giants and ghosts."  This from a woman who until recently was suffering under the spell of a witch, watched as the governess in her employ suddenly vanished into thin air, and was chased though the woods by a creature wearing a man's clothes!

I loved the hubbada hubbada moment where Julia tried to explain why she, a trained physician, had declared a live woman dead and consigned her to the fate of being buried alive.  Julia would have made a great politician!

I rather liked Elizabeth's unexpected return to Collinwood, with Barnabas saying "Who could that be at this hour?"

I think this is one of the truly "chilling" DS episodes.  Quentin looks very creepy and Mrs. Johnson's being trapped alone in the cottage with him strikes chords of primal terror.

I love Mrs. Johnson's comments to and about Harry - totally cutting and emasculating.  I always appreciate characters who are as full of starch and vinegar as she is.

I'm amazed at how long some of these actors can go without breathing.  That shot of Vickie on the table seems to go on forever.  The problem with such scenes is that I spend all my time looking to see if the performer moves or inhales.

There always seems to be such an inconsistency in how a vampire's victims react to being bitten.  Usually, it results in unthinking obedience, yet here we have Forbes betraying Barnabas by asking Millicent to help him escape.

I wonder if "modern" Collinsport has as many prostitutes hanging around the wharf plying their trade as 18th Century Collinsport apparently did.  And speaking of prostitutes, since when do they not only reveal to their johns that they know who they are but that they plan on telling all their girlfriends about the encounter as well?  What ever happened to anonymity?

I'm still really bothered about this being 1796 instead of 1795.  Vickie was either hanged in 1795 or she wasn't.  It makes zero sense to suddenly change the year in which it happened.  It would be like traveling back to the past to try and stop the assassination of JFK and going to 1964 instead of 1963 to do so.  Dumb

Any way you slice it, the day on which Vickie "died" on the gallows wouldn't have changed.  Why does the date in the past have to somehow correlate with the one in the present?  That just doesn't make any kind of sense.

I agree.

Another strange thing is why has the date of Vickie's execution been moved from 1795 to 1796?  I realize it's probably because of the change in the calendar year from 1968 to 1969, but it's still pretty stupid and illogical.

Has there ever been a time when the writers were juggling this many storylines?   Quentin possessing the kids, a werewolf running around Collinsport, Elizabeth lying in her coffin, and Vickie facing almost certain doom in the past.  It sure makes the episodes speed on by.

For a second it seemed as if Julia were the one being transported back to the past.  I almost expected to hear her scream, "Barnabas, you blew it.  You were supposed to be the one going back, not me!"

Does Maine have anywhere near the number of thunderstorms this show seems to suggest it does?  I know it has far more blizzards.  At this point in December they should all be waist-deep in snow drifts!

It's great seeing all the originals - Elizabeth, Roger, Carolyn and David - back together again for the same episode.  That's one of the nice things about the Quentin storyline.  It gets us away from the Old House and back to Collinwood proper, which means the principal players get more story time.

Marie showed remarkable breathing control in this episode.  Those were very long takes with the actors talking over her like that.  All I could do was watch to see if she breathed.  She didn't.  Good job.

Anyone else notice that Denise's name was absent from the closing credits?

Very tender scene between her and Chris.  Really like the music they played behind it...one of the best pieces used on the series.
