Thanks for all the great reports.  Love the story about Lara and the daiquiri, but guess one thing that puzzles me is why someone would bring a blender all the way to a con?? Well, guess it saves on paying for expensive hotel bar drinks....

Current Talk '05 I / Re: Hottest Kisses on DS
« on: March 16, 2005, 02:27:56 AM »
Then there was that infamous kiss in 1795 between ex-lovers Barnabas and Angelique that started the decline and fall of Barnabas Collins.

I can't recall if there was another (last) kiss between them in 1840, though I want to remember it that way. Considering the circumstances, I imagine it would have been pretty passionate
Actually the last kiss between them was when Barnabas kissed his dead wife Angelique, it was a sweet, poignant, and oh, so sad kiss.

I don't know, in the Julia/Barnabas kiss .gif they he looks very uncomfortable, or is that the point??

BTW, I think I have read that when they were rehearsing love scenes on DS, Jonathan would say in rehearsal, and then we kiss here, right, instead of actually rehearsing the kiss.  Still that technique did not hurt, especially in his kissing scenes with Lara and some with KLS.

I would say that to me the hottest kisses on DS were the two passionate ones between Barnabas and Angelique in 1795, and most of the Bramwell/Catherine kisses in 1841PT.

Current Talk '05 I / Re: Will the REAL Angelique please stand up!
« on: March 16, 2005, 01:23:41 AM »
Personally, I love that scene because I believe that Barnabas and Angelique are true soul mates.  I also believe that Barnabas never really loved Josette.  If he truly felt that Josette was the great love of his life, then why was he sneaking around with Angelique?  I feel that he viewed Josette as the ideal woman for someone in his social position, and over the years, built her up into a mythical creature.  I believe that Angelique was the one he really wanted, and that Josette was the one he felt that he should want.  The irony, and the power, of that scene between B and A is that if Barnabas had recognized his true feelings in the first place, he would have saved himself and everyone else a great deal of pain and suffering.
Claude North, I absolutely agree with what you said, I think Barnabas was in some ways emotionally repressed, though it does not seem like he was in Martinique, and that he was perhaps somewhat afraid of the passion, etc feelings that Angelique brought out in him.  I do think he loved Josette, but not in the way he grew to love and underneath it all always cared for Angelique. Barnabas would have had a happy if rather dull life with Josette, with Angelique his life would have never been dull, as has been said of other volatile couples, there would have been fights, but the making up would have been all the more sweeter. I still think Angelique is the best soulmate for Barnabas.

I think the idea of these Emmys is great, but I do wish write in votes had been allowed, I mean, how can you not include Bramwell and Catherine as one of the best romantic couple nominees??

[ChristmaS7]  I thought that Ben Martin had relocated to that part of the country , it seems too much of a cooincidence that it is not KLS' first husband.

Current Talk '04 II / Re: Jonathan Frid Flubbing His Lines
« on: November 02, 2004, 07:26:27 PM »
Lara has at times complained about JF going up on his lines but she has also said at other times that she thought it also made his performance more riveting and a lot of times it added to a scene she was in with him, so at least she appreciated his talent and said she enjoyed working with him.

What frosted me was in listening to the Conversation with Grayson CD she thought Jonathan was "dumb" because he flubbed the lines and that he was not a very good actor...interesting observation coming from an actress who constantly gave over the top performances on the show to the point where there have been so many humerous takeoffs of her peformance as Julia in skits and in the videos the guy who impersonates Julia does....

To me, Jonathan overacted at a minimum on the show ( I can think of one scene where he did, when he got bitten by the bat in Leviathan), but for the most part as many here have said he stayed in character and more often than not gave a very realistic, natural performance where he sometimes was able to even recover from a flub...I think you have to go with the overall acting performance rather than pick at specifics--a reason I have never considered til now is maybe one reason a lot of us could never see Julia with Barnabas is that she was almost campy at times, whereas with Barnabas and Angelique you could see the romantic/erotic undertones in many of those fights they had...and the scenes flowed more naturally..

Current Talk '04 II / Re: favorite "moment"
« on: September 11, 2004, 12:53:25 AM »
My favvorite moment is the end of 1840, too,
when Barnabas realized he loved Angelique...I like to think she knew how he felt before she died, I mean, I don't think he called her my darling since Martinique, or maybe very early in their marriage before he found out the truth about her...
Connie, I am so sorry about your illness, I hope you are feeling better soon, and hey, the picture of David Selby was nice!!

Current Talk '04 I / Re:Hey! was Jonathan Frid sexy?
« on: March 01, 2004, 12:49:14 AM »
The sexiest I have ever seen JF be was when he  was playing Bramwell--he and Lara just smoldered up the screen, and yes he always had his best chemistry with her on DS

Well, I do hope the Fest does provide some info becuase I know from personal experience that trying to figure out how to get to Tarrytown and around town using totally public transportation (ie not driving) is rather difficult...
