Dr. Guthrie knows exactly how to appeal to David in getting him to the Old House for the . He tells him, Miss Winters is going to take you someplace tonight, but you can’t tell anyone. It’s a surprise, he adds for good measure. David is immediately hooked.

I'm not sure either how Josette thought David could help Dr. Guthrie, but it's a good thing David snuck in that third piece of pie!

I think Laura's influence on Roger and David is just another instance of the Law of Unintended Consequences. And I've always thought it was good writing that Vicki isn't omniscient about everything that goes on at Collinwood and that some things happen far outside her frame of reference.

Roger tells Dr. Guthrie that from the time when Laura first arrived at Collinwood, she has been worried about time running out. Dr. Guthrie finds this interesting but doesn’t quite have all the pieces put together yet. And Roger is still worried and fearful for David's safety!

Mrs. J is sight for sore eyes, especially when she complains about having to clean the cottage as well as the Great House!  [easter_smiley] And of course she is a veritable tigress in keeping Laura out of the house even when he's in town!

Josette finally realizes that it's up to her to give Roger that extra nudge, so she opens the ledger from the cemetery to just the right page. And what really horrifies Roger is what Dr. Guthrie DIDN'T tell him about David Radcliffe, perhaps out of kindness--that David R. actually chose to join his mother and be immolated along with her.

Finally, Roger's on the team!  [easter_smiley]

I had no trouble in Safari. Maybe try Firefox?

I only dipped into a couple of the tracks, but the music actually sounds interesting. Must be the Cobert influence that saves it from the usual phoned-in quality of other Elfman scores. [easter_evil]

I think the coffins of important people might have had a wax seal, but that wouldn't have prevented grave robbers from opening them.

Very nice scenes in this ep. Vicki is definitely becoming part of the family.

Poor little David has his first, horrific vision--and Dr. Guthrie reveals the dreadful news in the long-ago newspaper.

It seems as though Laura forgets her previous lives after she moves on. I wonder if she is reincarnated as an infant or as a full-fledged (as it were) adult.

The caretaker (whose feet I would gladly anoint with precious oils) doesn't know why the three amigos are opening up Laura Murdoch coffins right and left.  No clue.  A desire to reach logical conclusions does not seem to be any part of his mindset.  He seems to live in a non-linear world, which just sort of gently swirls around him.  Someday, like Professor Binns at Hogwarts, he is going to die and continue doing his job because nobody, including himself, will have noticed that he died.

Sadly, this episode marks
the positively last appearance of Frank Garner. I suppose they originally brought him in to be an alternate boyfriend for Vicki, but evidently his only purpose was grave-robbing??? In any event he vanishes from the show with no explanation. Although the character will be mentioned in ep. 252, he is never seen onscreen again. Perhaps the death of Peter Guthrie and the supernatural happenings at Collinwood became too much for strait-laced Frank?
Dr. Guthrie notes that there isn't even any dust in the bottom of the empty coffin. I'll bet there isn't any dust in the second one they dig up, either. Poor Joe seems resigned to his new career as a resurrectionist.

The masthead of the Collinsport Chronicle from 1867 features a rather modern-looking powerboat. The caretaker makes an awful discovery!

Laura is really and truly scary when she rhapsodizes to the poor caretaker about how beautiful fire is. A nice moment too when she strokes the interior of the coffin, although she does seem unnerved that it's open.

Joe tells Dr. Guthrie that he lives in a white clapboard at the end of North Main Street, but doesn't tell him the house number. Then he jokingly tells Carolyn that if they're arrested, he wants her to bake him a cake--and that his favorite filling is a file.

Welcome, duffel bag with tools inside!

Yes, the jasmine business was nice. This is the first time Joe is present when Josette is up to something!

And yes, Daniel Keyes was terrific!

Not only did Peter Guthrie not have his glasses, he was also wearing a different, darker coat.

Very interesting--thanks for the link! How sand ironic for our Barnabas that his name means "son of consolation."

Not only is JC so good-looking but Joe Haskell is also a skeptic--a big plus for me! He tells Dr. Guthrie, "I think we live only once and the dead stay dead." That actually makes him a perfect candidate for what Dr. Guthrie has in mind.

Dr. Guthrie tells Carolyn the story of the Phoenix. FINALLY he gets the Arizona connection!

While he and Maggie are talking about marriage, Maggie fills up six large sugar canisters. Those townspeople must love their sugar!

Well, yes, that's true, but it does make for a thrilling finale to the episode. Plus we get a chance to
hear Laura laugh just like Angelique.
