Willie must have been secretly pleased with all this ghost-possession stuff, since it afforded him the oppurtunity to have his lady-love move into the very same house with him - no more trips to the cottage or even the Big House just to see her.

Well, we know what Carolyn was busy doing - breaking up with Chris.   [snow_cry]

This is one of those times when I really wish DS didn't have that 5-actors-per-episode limit.  How great it would have been to have seen Carolyn, Maggie, Mrs. Johnson, Amy and Julia all loaded down with luggage and going out the front door as part of the group.

Fantastic tracking shot at the end.  Very French New Wave!

I agree with the idea of there being something especially spooky about figures peering through windows.  "The Innocents" and "Carnival of Souls" generated some of their scariest moments doing just that.

I thought it was a little odd not having Elizabeth present for the exorcism.  I would think she would have wanted to be on hand to supervise the event and help protect and support David, not be upstairs doing who knows what instead.

The Prof. Stokes/David scene was very much cribbed from the final moments in TOFS, since in both cases the adult figure is trying desperately to get the possessed boy to admit the presence of the ghost.

The acting in this episode seemed especially compelling, especially from Don, Grayson and Joan.  I guess good, thoughtful writing will bring out the best in an actor.  I particularly liked the way Don conveyed Chris' fear of seeing Sabrina again not knowing what she would say or do, or even what state she would be in.  I also liked the way Julia made him face his fears in a firm but sympathetic way.

One thing I don't understand though:  after two years, don't you think Ned would at least have had the decency to dye Sabrina's hair back to its original color?  Maybe he left it gray for maximum effect should he one day find Chris, but it still seems rather cruel to keep her looking like such a freak for all that time.

David's hair made him look so maniacal.  First class episode all the way!

Current Talk '09 I / Re: Dark Shadows False Memory Syndrome

This isn't a DS memory but I had a friend in the early '80s who swore that Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz" was knocked unconscious not as a result of a tornado but by falling into a pigpen in an earlier scene.  Eventually, we went to see the movie at a revival theater and I was finally vindicated.

This is definately one of the most purely "frightening" episodes in all of DS.  That final scene, which is very spooky and creepy, owes a great deal to "The Innocents" starring Deborah Kerr.

I was wondering, did Chris ever meet Jeff Clark or did their paths never cross during that transitional stage between storylines?

In a way, I feel cheated that Roger wasn't present during Elizabeth's "death period" and particularly at the moment of her "resurrection."  After all, he spent most of the time previous to that dismissing her as being mentally ill for believing she would be buried alive, so it would have been gratifying to see his reaction at its actually coming to pass just as she predicted.

Current Talk '09 I / Was DS ever actually shown live?
« on: February 10, 2009, 06:13:06 AM »
At the end of one of the discs, one of the early cameramen states in an interview that occasionally DS had to be performed live because they weren't able to finish the filming in time for the actual airing.  Is this true and do we know which episodes he might have been referring to here?

Sorry if a thread already exists on this topic.

I thought the scene between David and Ezra was charmingly written and played.  There was a great deal of genuine humor in it, especially the discussion of David's name.  I love how Ezra thought "David" was some new-fangled name and how David rose to his own defense by bringing up King David. Clever stuff.

I'm amazed at how much Barnabas seems to know about the Victorian Era, considering that he "slept" right through it.  I guess he's spent a lot of his free time reading up on all the history he missed.

By the way, when did he learn how to drive?  And why does he seem to be spending so much time at the Big House lately?  Is it because Roger's gone?  Heck, even Vickie isn't there anymore to draw him to the place.

And why does no one seem to have any functioning memories at Collinwood?  Here we have Carolyn and David quizzing each other on whether or not they've ever seen a ghost.   Strange since they both had encounters with Sarah in the not too distant past.

Apparently, Mrs. Johnson failed to read the fine print in the contract she signed listing her job duties as maid at Collinood:

YOU MUST PARTICPATE IN ALL FAMILY SEANCES WHEN CALLED UPON TO DO SO.  [snow_wink]

When both Maggie and Mrs Johnson have described the same man it would seem that they would belive there is a man and not a dummy.

I suppose the response would be that Maggie was just projecting on what Mrs. Johnson had already described.

When Maggie ran down the stairs in hysterics screaming she'd just seen a stranger in the West Wing, I half expected Liz to say a la David, "Vickie never behaved like this when she was here."
