I think the dogs sense the presence of something not of this world, something beyond our mere human senses are unable to detect. Besides, if the humans at Collinwood suspect Barnabas, there wouldn't be much of a story.

Welcome Robert Gerringer as Dr. Dave Woodard no. 2!

Interesting riff on Joe's waiting outside while Dr. Woodard examines Maggie. Dr. Woodard says that unless Maggie gets some blood, she'll "go down into shock." By a happy coincidence, she and Joe have the same blood type, so they can keep it in the family, so to speak.

Barn bit Maggie on two nights in a row, before the night he called her to the cemetery. Interesting that the bite marks are not aligned with Maggie's jugular vein. But I suppose Barn doesn't want to kill her--yet.

Maybe Willie hasn't yet moved the coffin to the cellar of the Old House. Barn probably doesn't want to move in until the renovations are done.

Maybe the Evans cottage sits right on the Schwarzhild radius of a black hole....

Ah yes! I suppose Eagle Hill share some magical properties of transportation with the traveling afghans.

About Willie and the cows: I suppose Barnabas has to find the proper balance of how much to feed on Willie: Enough to keep him in subjection, but not too much, or Willie would be unable to function--or keep unwanted visitors from the Old House during the day.

I suppose that besides getting yet another beating, poor Willie will be Barnabas's victim a few extra times, just to keep him under Barn's thumb.

You two are a riot! But I guess daytime TV wasn't ready for that in 1967.  [ghost_wink]

You're right, MT! I hadn't thought of that. Willie can't help but protect Barnabas--but it must have been a tremendous feat of will indeed to phone Collinwood. As horrific as his situation is, it's given Willie the chance to discover all kinds of resources he probably never knew he had.

I remember liking Jean Simmons--the only actress who could come close to JB's excellence--and Barbara Steele very much. I thought Jim Fyfe was all wrong as Willie, and certainly totally wrong to play a blacksmith in 1975.

I thought Ben Cross was adequate, but I can't think of anyone else besides JF who could do justice to the role. And that includes Johnny Depp.

In the scene where Barn gives Vicki the music box, he tells her, "I was born dancing the minuet." Well, in the first place, Josette's theme isn't a minuet, and in the second place, that's not what they end up dancing.

Oh, and Roy Thinnes was fantastic as the not-at-all-Reverend Trask!

Maybe poor Willie was hoping that Barnabas wouldn't figure out who let everyone know where Maggie was.

It seems that the set designer hasn't yet figured out how anyone can open the door to the secret room from the inside. But this will eventually be remedied.

Maybe, but I think the only fringe benefit Jason wants is money. More and more of it.

You're absolutely right. Of course Josette would know--and I should have too.

Sam, Joe, and Burke leave the Evans cottage to search for Maggie. Vicki is left to dust the telephone. But I suppose it's a good thing she's there, because Willie's phone call ultimately saves Maggie's life. Burke returns, she tells him about it, and they race off to Eagle Hill--without leaving a note for poor Sam and Joe.

How Maggie walked the supposed five miles in a nightgown and slippers is never explained, but she is wandering around Eagle Hill when a particularly heavy wisp of fog clears to reveal Barnabas standing before her. This is the first time we see him in vampire mode, and he could very well be competing with Maggie in the eye makeup department--even his eyebrows have been brushed upward, and he looks positively feral.

Of course, once Maggie is rescued, Barnabas figures out who was responsible. He gives Willie his first (almost) on-camera beating as a reward. Willie doesn't put up a fight. He seems to be atoning for his first behavior toward Maggie and Sam at the BW.

Too tired to write much now, but I will note that Vicki is wearing a dress with cap sleeves and a rolled collar--meant to be the height of 1967 chic, but it looks like a sack on anyone, even with a belt. For some reason Vicki also has her hair piled up ala Elizabeth Collins Stoddard--it’s only the Blue Whale, for heaven’s sake! But I have to say that on her, it looks great.

Farewell to Richard Woods in his last appearance as Dr. Woodard. He prescribes a special diet for Maggie, but it must be only bread and water, because he tears a teeny tiny piece of paper from his notebook to write it down.

Sam hurries home to Maggie without waiting to get his drink order--surely a first for him!

Well, I suppose Elizabeth's being in a coma and having this thing about the locked room in the basement must count for something. But aside from that she has a more or less quiet life, so maybe Jason's arrival and shake-up of her world are that much more disturbing.

I'll bet JB and DP had a great time doing their scenes!

Before electricity, people painted during the daylight hours, I think. But Sam has the prospect of a thousand dollars, so I guess he'll paint when his patron says to.

As before, Maggie drives her pop to the Old House to continue painting the portrait. After Maggie leaves, Barnabas tells Sam he has made great progress with the painting. But the painting is exactly the same as it was before, with the same rag draped over it in the same way!

Later, Barnabas asks Sam if he can go out "for some air." Sam says that he has about an hour's worth of work to do on the colors. That will be more than enough time, Barnabas says.

Meanwhile, Maggie now waits for him eagerly....
