I just don't understand all the animosity towards Amanda Harris. Granted she didn't have the strongest character on the series but plenty of others were equally weak if not more so. As for her acting, I thought she was just fine, if not quite good. I can think of so many other actors who were so much worse: Lee Beery (Joanna Mills), Kathy Cody (Hallie Stokes), Betsy Durkin; I would argue even that Donna Wandrey (Roxanne) and Diana Millay (Laura) were worse actors.

Maybe there's a little jealousy/outrage going on here over the fact that Quentin fell for Amanda and not someone else you would have preferred more?

it has nothing to do with Quentin or the other actors
you mentioned i have nothing against her just don't enjoy her acting and don't think she would be any better in a strong role and  sorry find her voice as annoying as Hallie's and Jeff Clark. she makes me run from the room!
If someone else likes her acting that is wonderful. Lee Beery was  awful also and all the others you mentioned
just put her in the same category!My daughter gets so mad that i don't like some of her music! LOL it is all opinion! wait till she arrives!She is also on longer than the Icky Vicki isn't she?

Here's my entirely subjective list of requirements:

He makes you laugh...
He doesn't tell you lies...
He tries to get along with YOUR family at least as hard as you try to get along with his...
He generally agrees with you on how to raise kids...
He generally agrees with you on how to spend money...
He has no dibilitating addictions...
The sex is at least VERY GOOD...

I do not believe in fireworks, shooting stars, soul-mates or happily-ever-after.  Just trust, honesty, hard work, compromise and.....love.

The best of 1897 is, of course, Quentin.  The mind switch episode is brilliant...the flashing back and forth there.  Magda is great and Beth by far the most tragic charecter (someone please explain to me the logic behind Beth being considered a wimp, while Julia is lionized as this paragon of strength.  Beth had some basis and Julia was motivated solely by something that existed only in her mind.  Even if Julia had something to go on, getting it from Barnabas  cannot compare with a piece of Quentin).

Con wise:  Amanda Harris blows chunks.

Well it is too bad because the show has been repeated now so many times it isn't fair but athletes have the same problems so many of them in the 60's &70's made so little money they had to find other jobs when their careers were over Compared to today when they are paid in excess! i've heard the football league has a fund
that helps old players!Isn't fair to both!a lot of these actors were probaly paid little too!
as for Betsy Durkin she was a pretty girl it isn't her looks i object too but her acting! did she ever do anything else? i still don't think she is the worst actor on the show there are others coming up that hold that role for me!
