Current Talk '05 I / Re: Will the REAL Angelique please stand up!
« on: March 30, 2009, 07:15:05 PM »
Wow, lots of great interpretations here. It shows how great DS is that such completely different yet equally valid interpretations can be done.
Personally, I think Barnabas did love Angelique but rejected her initally out of class concerns, which was very realistic for the time. Barnabas courted Josette primarily thru letters, and I think that he saw her in a romaticised way. Their relationship seems more based on his ideas of courtly love than a real partnership imo. He loved her, but as they were kept apart he became obsessed with her, just as Angelique was obsessed with him.
Barnabas showed how blind he could be to real love with Julia, and was impulsive and fickle with his emotions, falling in love with one pyt after another, most of them being stand-ins for Josette. Than he really though he could hold Maggie prisoner, dress her in Josette's clothes and put her in Josette's room and make her be Josette says a lot about how Barnabas loves Josette, more like a very prized possesion than a person. At the very least the fact that Barnabas tries repeatedly to make other women become Josette shows he's very disturbed in realtion to how he views women and love.
Given how fickle Barnabas is it seems very in character for him to declare his love to Angelique once it's too late to make any difference. But it's one thing to make a foolish declarartion in a heat of passion, making that relationship work long time would've been much more difficult.
Personally, I prefer to think that Barnabas did eventually come to his senses and marry Julia, but once she's died a natural death from old age, if he were still around as an immortal vampire, it seems likely he'd fall into Angelique's arms again, at least until the next Josette look alike came along.

Those Jennings brother pics are awesome!
Julia loves Barnabas so much it's hard to really picture her with anyone else.
Roger and Stokes both seem way too gay for Julia, but funny enough I wanted Joshua and Natalie to get togather at the end of 1795.
If I had to pick anyone else for Julia, Quentin seems to be the best match for her.
I do like Barnabas and Willie as a couple. The differences between them make them seem like an interesting pair, the rich sophisticated older man and his hot rough trade :)
I also think I may well be the only Quentin/Chris shipper in the world.

The problem with getting the emails probably stems to not being able to access my account due to a lost pasword- a problem that I emailed BF several times about requesting help and never recieved a responce.   I had to open a different account with a different email to be able to place a new order.
When I emailed about my problem with The Wicked and the Dead I emailed using my priamry email. I got no responce there. It's possible they emailed the dummy email I had to set up to get around my account problem, an email I've since lost track of.
As it is I've tried to change my current account to use my regualr email but the system won't accept my email as it's being used for a different account - that I can't access. So I'm using my mom's email. That's a pain, but I manage her pc for her so I can recieve emails there for any future problems. The only thing I've ordered from that old account is DS so after the next DS audiobook comes out I shouldn't need access to that account anyways.
It is my fault that I lost my password, but I still never recieved any help with that and I tried several times to get help from BF customer service with no responce.
Thanks for at least letting me know the replacement is on the way, that's what I really needed to know.
I hate to sound so negative, I love BF, get everything from them, not just DS but Doctor Who, Sapphire and Steel, Iris Wildthyme, everything, and promote them and talk about them to everybody. I just have had problems getting help when I've needed it, which has been really frustrating.

Hi
Thanks for looking into it.
I haven't recieved any responce from BF on this, and the reply isn't in my spam folder either so I don't know what's going on. If you are able to forward the email or any info to me my address is slayer@junct.com
I just want to know that the replacement is being sent out. I'm dying to finish listeneing to the story. I can deal with a cracked case but not a skipping cd.
I love BF and buy 99% of everything they've put out, but I've had trouble not getting replies from customer service in the past.

I got up to track 6 on my cd of The Wicked and the Dead and it starting skipping so badly I was unable to finish it. I emailed BF about a replacement copy a couple of days ago but have yet to get a responce. I hope they send me a replacement copy soon, I'm dying to finish it.
If anybody here is affiliated with BF some info would be nice. I love BF's cds but I've had serious trouble getting anybody to respnd to me from them in the past when I had a problem with my account so I'm worried that I'll never hear back from them.
Anybody else here have a problem with their cd of The Wicked and the Dead? My case did arrive cracked so maybe mine got damaged in transit.

I love the BF DS audios. They ( And Return to Collinwood) are awesome.
I'm dying waiting the Wicked and the Dead to come out. Any details out there on what's coming next?
When is season 2 of the full cast audios coming out? It's been over 2 years since season 1 ended!
I hope that more of the audiobook stories are done too!
BF does Doctor Who every month and have expanded to doing two reader audiobooks monthly too. I hope that DS can get released once or even twice monthly in the future!

Current Talk '09 I / Re: Whatever Happened to Burke Devlin?
« on: February 05, 2009, 08:54:02 PM »
Peter/Jeff and Vicki always did seem to go at it like junkyard dogs, but Vicki seemed into it to me. His passionate love scenes make him seem pretty sexy to me, but of course it's dead wrong if he was sexually harassing anybody. I can disaprove of an actor's behavior and still enjoy his performance.
I did think that Ned was way too touchy feely with Sabrina, but then I didn't like Ned that much, in comparison to Peter/Jeff.

I didn't really care for Burke, but it does seem a shame that they didn't have Barnabas kill him, just for the drama of it. A nasty death would have been more interesting than an uncertain off screen death. For what it's worth I liked Jeremiah a lot better than Burke. I think part of what I dislike about Burke was how unsuited he seemed for Vicki. I do suspect that Barnabas and Jeremiah had a think going. Look at how Jeremiah puts his hand on Barnabas's thigh when he's choking early in the 1795 sl.
Maybe the writers decided not to have Barnabas kill him if they were thinking on converting Brnabas into a conflicted hero. If I had my way about it Barnabas would have framed Burke for kidnapping Maggie and the police would've killed him when he tried to escape. Writes Burke out, keeps Willie in the story and keeps Barnabas from actively killing him and making him a more devious character.
For what it's worth I like Peter/Jeff and thought he had a really great relationship with Vicki.

Direct to dvd sequels are a really good idea.
The Big Finish  DS cd plays and audiobooks are really good, if you want more DS I recommend them whole heartedly!

That sounds so cute. I'm kind of jealous, I want a Maggie/Viki tumbler too now.

Jeremy was pretty cute, I would've like to see more of him. He seems a little older than David, but he may just be taller and more filled out which makes him look more mature.  He has a really different look from David, he doesnt really seem right for that part.
If Chris wasn't coming back I'd have killed Chris off and introduced "Jeremy" as Quentin's son who inherited the werewolf curse after Chris's death.
Getting off topic even further, I also always wondered what would have been done with Kate Jackson if the show had done another modern day storyline. Most likely she'd have been a modern day descendent of Daphne ( a great niece or something) who'd be the new governess. Of course, David and Hallie were really too old to have a governess anyways so maybe it was time for Collinwood to be without a governess and a new role would need to have been found for her. She could have been "Jeremy" 's sister, but then that would rule her out as a love intrest for Quentin.

Current Talk '09 I / The Wicked and the Dead - Dark Shadows Audio Play
« on: January 08, 2009, 12:52:10 AM »
Big Finish's front page has an add for The Wicked and The Dead, a audiobook starring Jerry Lacy and John Karlen. Judging by the gorgeous picture it's set in the 1897 time period with Gregory Trask and Carl Collins.
I believe that Lacy and Karlen are going to do another audio as well.
If anybody hasn't checked out Big Finish's audiobooks ( a story narrated by a lead DS character with a supposrting character voiced by a different DS actor) and their full cast audio plays I strongly recommend them.

Current Talk '08 II / Re: vicki and peter in 1991
« on: November 20, 2008, 01:38:58 PM »
I've alwys been bugged by the fact that Vicki's trip to the past didn't change anything.  But her trip into the past in the original series did bring some positive changes. Vicki going to the past somehow brought Peter to the present. If Vicki hadn't seen Jeff on the side of the road she wouldn't have wrecked the car and Barnabas would have made her a vampire, and wouldn't have had his remission from vampirism. That was a big part of Barnabas changing from his evil ways.
It does occur to me that Barnabas was kinder and gentler immediately after Vicki returned though. Perhaps Vicki's prescence in the past inspired Barnabas to be a better person?

I had heard that Vicki was supposed to have repressed memories of her trip to the past.
